Aurora can sing any song except Happy Birthday.
HAHAHA... She did sing it at a show
Sooo funny 😂
You know, even when she messes up she’s still entertaining
She just laughs it off and moves on… no biggy
‘ Don’t know how anyone who sees, hears or meets her can’t fall in love with her inner beauty on the spot 😊
@@kyleanderson7852 Haha! she does indeed. She never claims to be perfect
...she should of gotten a standing ovation for this performance.🙏
That was the anniversary of Cohen's death, this concert. Many artists came and sang his songs. Including Aurora with this one. Aurora grew up with his songs and was one of her great role models.
Musically, you should recognize parts of the song (chorus) from the world hit "when i need you". They were stolen from Cohen's song and led to a legal battle that Cohen won.
When I need you

The term "go clear" comes from Scientologists. If I'm not mistaken, the song with this reference is also about this sect too.
I was just going to comment that the chorus was from the song When I need love by Leo Sayer.
@@acerkrt And that would be a false statement, because it would be true the other way around.
It was not the anniversary of his death, it was on April 25th 2017 while he died on Nov 7th, 2016.
It was a tribute concert to him, which might be what you meant.
@@TomTomson81 yes I know this now. I never heard this song till now and When I need love popped into my head . Now I know and knowing is half the battle.
It's so refreshing to watch your reaction videos. One reason is your honesty. You have no problems acknowledging what you DON'T LIKE while at the same time as being able to identify the areas GREATEST VALUE. Once again, thank you for turning me on to music I would not have otherwise known.
I appreciate that
I've seen this so many times every time it`s like the first time.......
Aurora is simply and absolutely so but so freaking good She's absolutely the Best!
„Like the first time...“ excellent point.
Ashlena, I'm sure if you see Aurora in Toronto, you won't cry but smile because even though she has emotional songs, her demeanor and radiance alone will make you happy. Cohen often runs in the background when we cook together at home. A glass of red wine and some friends, some good conversations and him in the background.... Aurora is a story teller with her whole body. She has the ability to get into the lyrics of the song and reflects it in her movement and facial expression. This is what fascinates and captures us. We don't just hear the music, we see it through Aurora's movement. Remember "Feathers fall out of the pillow" - have you also seen them floating in the air? - That's exactly what I mean. What Cohen means for Aurora and her upbringing I leave to others to tell about, but thanks again for a good Tuesday.... the sun is shining in Denmark and Ashlena has been seen, what more can I expect.😊
Oh trust me I’ll be crying and smiling lol
@@ashlenamusic I cried... a lot... and it was joy to cry 😇
People cry from joy too. There’s nothing wrong with crying.
The rains finally came to the Czech Rep :)
I agree with you, she never phones it in. She seems to always be fully invested in her performance, if it's an original or a cover.
So true!
Aurora is incredible…
Thank you 🙏❤ Ashlena ❤ for your 🌈 AURORA - Famous Blue Raincoat (Leonard Cohen Cover) reaction! #auroraaksnes #aurora #leonardcohen #famousblueraincoat
We must as Aurora fans hold a massive debt of gratitude to the likes of Lenard Cohan and also Bob Dylan both great wordsmiths in the art of music.the incredible influence that they both have had on a young child called Aurora is immense and you can see it in every aspect of the music that Aurora produces,in interviews Aurora eyes light up when there names are mentioned and you can visibly see how moving a performance this was from Aurora and how the death of Lenard Cohan profoundly shows in this piece.I’ve followed Aurora now for 7 years and I have no hesitation in saying this particular performance and cover of Famous Blue Raincoat is the most memorable and beautiful touching performance I’ve seen from Aurora.❤️
Aurora's two best covers are God is a Woman and Teardrop, both done in a tiny radio studio.
Your reaction is so on point on many levels. For many of us (who are perhaps a bit older than you), Ashlena, Leonard Cohen’s songs have a lot of personal resonance and remind me of the frequently complex relationships we had in our youth, especially living in NYC in the 70’s and 80’s. Knowing that Cohen is one of Aurora’s top musical heroes and influences and that this tribute concert meant so much to her after his passing brings another kind of resonance to this song as well. What Aurora does with this (and yes, with every cover) is find the emotional essence and truth in the lyrics and give us the meaning she finds in the song in a raw and unfiltered way. She doesn’t embellish this performance as much as inhabit it, which, to your point, would make her an almost perfect “method” actor, if she were so inclined. Her voice, her performance, and that violin(!) make this a magical experience.
Oh, and yes, Lana Del Rey’s music is so different but also very compelling and beautiful as well.
Looking forward to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” next!
I totally agree she would be a method actor. Maybe one day we’ll see that
@@ashlenamusic She is a natural born method actor. Fun fact: She has been offered many roles, but only cute princess-like characters. That is not interesting to her. She'd rather play a witch or someone creepy, sinister and scary 😂.
Do you know how long time they used to make and rehearse this? I do! 🙂 Read on:
This is from the tribute concert in Oslo Spektrum, 25 april 2017 (Cohen died 07 november 2016).
There was a lot of artist making their tribute. It is not her band. It was "The Salmon Smokers" that was doing the concert, with guest vocalists like Aurora. 23 songs was preformed... The band rehearsed all the songs long time before, and had 30-45 minutes with every artist rehearsing so the artist could "make" the artists version of it... Not possible to go VERY far from the original then....
Why do I know this? Because the drummer Eivind and I come from the same town, and I sent him a message about it because I was curies about how they did it :-) "Aurora gives EVERYTHING both in the rehearsal and at the concert" he also said...
When Cohen died, Aurora was in the USA. When she heard about it she change her concert in Chicago to include "So Long Marianne", and I think her face say it all in that performance. It was done 11 november, only 4 days after his death. (Link below).
Marianne actually was Norwegian, so you have a Norwegian lady singing Cohen's song about a Norwegian lady :-)
ruclips.net/video/i4CgyVMJiEk/видео.html
I had the greate privilege to be at a concert where Eivind (drummer) and Freddy Holm (strings in this video) played in a local band.
Freddy are fantastic on everyting with a string on.... Both he and Eivind has to be on the top in Norway in their "categories".
i cant watch aurora without tears
Here for Aurora Tuesday reaction! And happy with it so much!
beautiful cover, has great vibes. In the meantime, a couple of hours ago Aurora released the Live Vevo version of "Some type of skin" on her channel. She's spoiling us these days, she's basically released something every week 😊
I'll check it out! I can’t wait!
Glad you got a ticket hope you do vlog stay safe xxxx
I definitely will!!
I am with you 100% on that she would be a fabulous actress, I have seen the same visioned in my head. Her portraying every song so brilliantly is pure magic and she would do the same in a movie.
Ashlena, Aurora’s cover of “Small Town Boy” is really a must for you. Even if you don’t do a reaction, you should watch. It is a little gem and based on your previous reactions of her music, I am pretty sure you would like it. Also, I have been to two of her concerts and in a word, the experience is joy.
Ahhh I can’t wait
Aurora love Cohen for his way to tell story and creat image for the listener. She grew up listening to him, he was pretty big in Europe and Norway as well. He was a tru poet who sang more then a singner who do poetry. She sadely never met him, the song So long Mariane was recorded few day after he past, she was touring USA and include that song in her show. This perfo is at ''In Memorie'' for Cohen. ( I don't remeber where but was not in Montreal as some said) Thank you and have a nice day 🙂
This song was my introduction to Aurora. It holds a special place in my heart, as does the original. It was my love of Leonard Cohen’s version that got me searching for covers, and voila. But we share our love for Aurora. Thanks for reacting to this. I have’t seen one on this performance in ages.
Love that!!!
This is excellent.
happy aurora tuesday. when aurora covers a cohen song you can be sure she has memories of her childhood in mind. same goes for dylan covers. i wished she had pete seeger on her early playlist. thanks for your reaction, it looked like it moved you just a little bit.
Lovely start to the morning 😊. Love this cover, and from what i understand she didn't have a lot of time to prepare with the band. She probably knows this song inside and outside anyway, and the band sounded amazing. Personally I heard Cohen and Dylan as a kid (older brothers), but it didn't really have any impact until I passed 40. Came as a surprise when suddenly Dylan (especially) clicked, and some of his records are among my favorites now. I have a few from Cohen as well, but most of the time just play an old greatest Hits album 😄.
Aww glad you’re having a good Tuesday xx
Hi Ash, I've been thinking for a long time that just as she is an amazing singer, she should be an amazing dancer or actress. It's probably the fact that whatever she does has its source in her emotions
So true!
Awesome, it's Aurora Tuesday!! Nice reaction, I really love this performance, such an excellent performance by everyone, and, so true, you could see how much this song means to her in the performance, she did it with so much sadness and love, and every single cover she has done, for me, has been better than the original song, love her covers. Great reaction, and so excited for you and your upcoming concert date. Thanks Ash, hope you feel better soon.
Thank you Judy!! I’m feeling 100% now! And Eden is doing just fine :)
@@ashlenamusic Oh man, I am sorry, I missed the part where you said your daughter is sick too. Glad to hear she is feeling fine too. Also, there is video of Aurora singing Happy Birthday to someone in the audience, she has a hard time singing it, she is laughing so much, funny video. 🤣😍
Agree 100% with what you said.
Yeah i felt the same. I really get to hear the words and connect with them when she covers songs i wouldn’t listen to otherwise.
Exactly!
Happy Aurora Tuesday ❤ to all. As always a great reaction and congrats on getting tickets to see her live later this year😊 Hopefully one day she may come to our country too🤞
I love how Aurora oozes emotions in her covers and this one was no different and a shout out to the arrangement and backing singers it really set the mood. Looking forward to the next one and the album take care and ❤
Thank you so much 😁
Yea. One of characteristic of Aurora and great thing about her is her emotions, expressions and even her voice fitting the emotions.
I am not a huge listener of Cohen, but I appreciate some of his music and his voice is very pleasant. I could say the same for Aurora voice (even if so different) but with Aurora I also see and hear emotions.
Ps. I also love the instrumental part of the song:)
i can't wait for you to react to somewhere over the rainbow cover😊you are gonna LOVE it
I probably will cry it’s my daughters favorite song
One of my favourite covers by her❤️❤️
I'm with you that it's not a favorite song of mine, but this performance is 11/10! Not just Aurora, but the whole production is absolutely chef's kiss. Easily one of her best covers, taking everything into account.
I've also been saying for a long time that she could be a fantastic actress. Her storytelling is off the charts. The way she is able to completely immerse herself into whatever story she's telling is crazy good. She makes you hang on every word, because she delivers it with so much emotion and conviction, without even a slight hint of inauthenticity. And that's because she doesn't have to fake any of it.
I also never cared for the song.
But like you said Ashlena, Aurora has the amazing talent to put emotion in any song she sings.
I clicked so fast, I love this rendition!
🥰🥰
Great reaction
Thank You 🦋🦋🦋
Yaaay!😍😍❤️
I’m glad both you and Eden are feeling better👍❤️🥰
Thanks Lill 🥰🥰🥰
Agreed. Some of it may be her diction. I think this may come from her Norwegian, every part of a word is important so is pronounced. Just my theory.
Makes sense!
Thank you for mentioning you got tickets in Toronto
Went online and secured tickets in Chicago late November❤😊
So cool!
I’ll be there in Chicago!
Sweet!
Aurora lives each song she sings in every performance and I swear I could happily watch her all day long...if I didn't get so emotional!
This was a commemorative concert soon after Cohen died. She killed his song. Pun intended.
Truth 💯
❤😊
🥰🥰🥰
❤
Happy Aurora Tuesday! ❤ I just want to point out that Ashlena is not talking about me at 0:18, I'm rarely on in the background!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
This performance was an absolute masterpiece, she is the most raw in terms of pure emotional portrayal. It’s like method acting on the spot.
Question: as aurora concert is my first ever concert, how early should I arrive for good general admission spot? I’m taking a day of work for this concert.
The earlier you join the queue, the nearer the front you will be ... 🤓
Six or seven hours before doors may well get you into the front row ... 😜
@@TheVirtualWatcher 7 hours god damm
Yeah unfortunately if you want to be up front you have to go super early. This is why I get box seats lol
😊👍
Excellent review of my favorite singer singing such a beautiful song. If you want to do a review of Over the Rainbow, you have to do the EVA Cassidy version, it will bring you to tears.
Love Aurora ❤
Congrats on ticket!
Is she coming to Detroit?
I don’t think so :(
@@ashlenamusic closest I could get is Chicago. But I’ll be there. She was in Detroit in 2022 but I didn’t know her then
Actually, you might want to compare this version to Jennifer Warnes' from the album named Famous Blue Raincoat. Her voice is absolutely divine. In fact, knowing how emotional you are, that album would have you practically or actually in tears several times along the way. It's an album full of nothing but Leonard Cohen covers, It is, I believe, a Grammy Award album.
I first discovered Aurora on the soundtrack of a film called The Secret Garden, Not a great remake IMO. This track can take you to another place in your mind as do many of her songs. I haven't seen that many live performances of this track and I don't believe you've covered it yet. Here's the link for the official movie ruclips.net/video/Jc1EOTFT1zU/видео.html&ab_channel=iamAURORAVEVO
Thanks for sharing!
Ohhh yes!!! It gets so overlooked!! If I remember correctly Aurora wrote ( or had started writing) it years before she was asked to contribute a piece for the film , and thought it would be perfect. She was right!!
good catch!
The Chorus is from a 70s song When I need Love by Leo Sayer.
Leo stole it from Len 😉
Buuuuut...
"the chorus of “When I Need You” is musically identical to the portion of Leonard Cohen’s song “Famous Blue Raincoat” where Cohen sings, “Jane came by with a lock of your hair / She said that you gave it to her that night / That you planned to go clear.” When asked about it in 2006 by The Globe and Mail, Cohen replied, “Somebody sued them on my behalf…and they did settle,” then he laughed and admitted, “They hired a musicologist who said that particular motif was in the public domain and, in fact, could be traced back as far as Schubert.” "
There's only so many notes after all 🙂
@@brynmilford1343Leo didn't steal it, he just sang the song.
@@TheVirtualWatcher touche! Fair point 🙃 sort of like handling stolen goods .. it happens. I'm a musician myself and it's so easy to think youve written a great a hook etc then realise it's something else 😩
if you like this version, you’ll love the one with Jennifer Warnes.
I think that Cohen and Dylan are better song writers than performers. I say that because there is so much room in their compositions that so many artists have managed to make their songs their own.
Truth! Amazing writers just not stuff I listen to.
@@ashlenamusic That's fair.
Moin aus Schleswig-Holstein.
Hiiii 🤘🏽
i still prefer eivørs cover of this song. she also did a cover of kate bushs running up that hill for the icelandic television a couple of weeks ago.
You know what? Before Aurora, some years ago (many, actually), I fell in love with Bjork just because I saw her acting in the Lars von Trier movie The Dancer in the Dark. She was actually living the story of the main character. The story is about the magic of music and tragic life circumstances. You could react to a beautiful song from the movie, you would be like a second reactor to do it :). But it is really magical song taken from this movie/musical (Bjork/Selma sings to a beat of a passing train): ruclips.net/video/N8FJyhnC2Eo/видео.html
If you watch the clip, you will see how similar is her singing/acting to Auroras. The emotional transparency is what I adore in both Aurora and Bjork here.
I followed Bjørk from the start of her career and loved her music and manner. A little crazy sometimes, a little innocent but with a lot of soul. Despite the fact that you can't or shouldn't compare the two women, there is still a certain similarity between the two. Not tangible but it floats in the air. Maybe a connected soul, each in its own body and own personality... who knows. (I love this scene where Selma starts singing and dancing to the rhythm of the factory machines)
@@Holgerdansk I love every song from the movie. But especially the train song and Scatterheart with the gramophone and pole ringing sounds. Gives me chills. Both the girls were growing up surrounded by one of the wildest and purest nature environments in the world.
@@Holgerdansk Do you know the danish writer Anker Larsen?
You mean Johannes Anker Larsen. Yes, have read "De vises sten" from 1923... exciting and stubbornly current 😉
What a sad song... not sure if I like it.
Yeah it’s an odd song.
