This is one of the best illustrations of mothman I’ve seen, especially in animation. It can often look a bit too silly to be scary, but this had just enough detail to show that it’s well done, but kept in shadow enough that you can see how it really would be a terrifying creature to come across on a country road at night. The animation here just keeps getting better and more detailed.
@@misterbadguy7325 I thought so too. I love that statue (assuming you’re talking about the same one I am) it’s so cool, but there’s something about it that I always found a little derpy looking (probably the shiny silver metal look and detailed abs and butt!). The same detail but in shades of black and dark grey and the way they’ve done the wings makes it seem more like a real creature.
To be fair seeing large red glowing eyes in the darkness moving around in the air would scare the sh*t out of even the toughest of men and women. Dr Bob always does his material justice, the woman's reaction would be everyone's reaction to anything not normal. The natural instincts within would kick in, like the hair on people's back, neck and arms raising. I love horror and everything Sci-fi, but I think everyone's natural side will come out if we ever see an anomaly. The most realistic being another life form that has travelled through space.
So this is what moth man does when he's not driving around town in the moth mobile or being a rich mans butler. It's nice to see he can get a good vacation from crime fighting every now and then.

I really really like the whole concept of folklore creatures and or gods being changed by people's perception of them its such an interesting concept and explains things in a way that keeps it mysteries
I like how, in a way, this explanation is rooted in reality. Unexplained things are given an explanation, cauing more people to view the world through that lence, which causes more sightings of the made up explanation.
Fun fact! "Operation: Surgeon's Photograph" refers to the famous photo of the Loch Ness monster. It was, in reality, a toy boat or sub with a neck and head attached to it. But until then, the creature wasn't well described. Just that it was large and had a long neck. The photograph shaped the perception of Nessie as looking almost like a plesiosaurus, though there had been a sketch from a "witness" with a similar design. Since that photo, "sightings" of the Loch Ness monster started to have more consistent details. In short, Operation: Surgeon's Photograph is designed to keep the Mothman consistent and stable.
The more conceptual entries always have a special place for me. There's just something about an unknown force being changed by thought that I enjoy. Thanks for the video Dr. Bob!
I've read about this SCP years ago. Knowing it was inspired by the actual myth, I was impressed with how the author managed to adapt it to the SCP universe, and now I'm watching it animated!
This reminds me a lot of a thing I once saw on the Loch Ness Monster, that talked about how early reports of it looked all over the place (sometimes it was small and furry, sometimes it was a giant slug, sometimes it looked like a camel, more often than not it was a land-dweller), but once a famous story about it broke that described it as a long-necked reptilian creature living exclusively in the lake, suddenly every Loch Ness sighting looked like that. Once people had an idea of what the Loch Ness Monster "should" look like, that was what it looked like in the eyes of people who "sighted" it.
the idea of the loch Ness being a dinosaur that survived extinction seems like a possibility, hence why people prefer that image of long necked reptile.
@@CalvinKalisto Now, now, sometimes they go "but coelacanths and megamouth sharks!", because poorly-fossilizing fish that spend their whole lives in exceptionally deep ocean are absolutely the same thing as giant reptiles with well-documented fossil records living in freshwater lakes.

IRL the Mothman is actually believed to be nightly sightings of owls. When driving at night, it is super hard to judge the size of and distance to anything next to the road. This has been tested btw, by having people drive down a dark road and having to judge the distance and size of cutouts of animals placed by the road. Most got it wrong. It is though that people have seen an owl sitting on a branch or a rock next to the road, only for the vitnesses brains to pull a trick on them, causing the illution of the owl being much further away than it actually is and thus making it seem much bigger. Owls eyes actually do glow red when hit with light at night, and the shape of an owl fits really well with the descriptions of the mothman. Especially in owls with those small "ears" on their head, which can be misstaken for fussy antennas.
