  • Jump on as we take the Super Guppy Turbine on a few touch and goes for currency on March 7th!
    Every organization requires that pilots (and aircrew) fly a certain amount in a certain given period of time. Since the Guppy doesn't fly all that often, it's easy for us to fall out of that window, so with one current pilot & one currently FE, we all packed on & went flying!

      Yes, Mike is very professional, but honestly, we maintain that kind of discipline in the cockpit nearly all the time, as complacency is a silent killer!

    I want to see this plane in flight. I have seen most others but never have I seen a C-97 or Guppy in flight.

    Thanks for posting this...so cool to see details about the Super Guppy.
    Why is the gear electric vs. hydraulic? Is there some benefit or reason???

  • @user-yg2up4lg3r
    @user-yg2up4lg3r 5 лет назад

    Why doesn't this guy have more subs? Also what happens if you have electrical failure to the gear boxes on your landing gear? Is there still a hydraulic or manual way to lower them? I'd have to assume so.

      That’s what I keep asking?!? LOL Thanks- please share the channel with everyone you know!
      Yes, we can disengage the gearboxes from the motors & manually lower all 3 gear.
      Thanks for your question!

    01:39 Is that a rusty pin and cracked metal fatigue?

    • @UnusualAttitudes
      @UnusualAttitudes  4 года назад

      It’s hard to tell which pin and/or area you’re describing; I went back and looked & nothing stood out to me. There is very little corrosion on the aircraft in general, and we’ve been working through a working PDM for the last 12 months, & the aircraft is in very good shape. We did fins some fatigue cracking on a few fairings, but nothing serious, & occasionally you’ll find insignificant hardware with surface corrosion on it, but that’s it.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@UnusualAttitudes Thanks you point to a thing and say "this guy" engages the lock. It looked like "this guy" the pin / clasp, was corroded yet components around it looked good. Glad it checked out ok, many thanks, good channel.

      Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, that pin might have a combination of some surface corrosion and grease. (Mostly grease). Hard to tell. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Gotta ask, why are the outboard nacelles so big? It cant be solely to accommodate a T-56

    • @UnusualAttitudes
      @UnusualAttitudes  5 лет назад

      The original Super Guppy’s had radial engines in them, so the nacelles were much larger, and so when the Super Guppy Turbines were built, they just used the old line drawings they had & made the minor modifications to fit the 501D-22s (T56s) in them. Each engine nacelle also houses a large methanol tank as well.

      @@UnusualAttitudes -10 engines?

    • @UnusualAttitudes
      @UnusualAttitudes  5 лет назад +1

      The 501D-22s have 14 stage compressors, and are nearly identical to T56-14s. The primary difference is that they have a water/methanol system.
      We picked up a lot of 8 T56s a while back & we’ve got Seagers in work on converting the minor differences over to match the SGT so the QEC will be fully plug-n-play.
