I’d pinpoint the title loss that season to 2 main events:
1- Xhaka riling up Anfield when we were winning and ending up drawing that game 2-2
2- Saka missing the penalty against Westham the next game and again drawing 2-2
Saliba’s absence played a huge part but these 2 games and mainly Anfield is where the league slipped away

They are 6 points behind and a game in hand behind Liverpool. Not to mention they still have to go to Anfield, so if that and Liverpool's rearranged game go as you would expect, they'll be 12 points behind. Way too much to ask, imho, especially when you consider that Liverpool have only lost once this season, and that as good as Forest were that day (and not meaning to take anything away from them), the stats suggest it was against the run of play. Arsenal aren't going to win the next 14 games to end up with 92 points, and even if they do and Liverpool continue at their current rate, Liverpool would end on 92.5x points. So even if Arsenal go perfect, Liverpool would be at worst level if they continue at their current ppg (depending on how the fraction of a point resolved).
That falls under 'hope', rather than 'belief' for Arsenal to win the title.

Arsenal have had to cope with a lot of injuries to key players, Odegaard out for 2 months earlier in the season, Saka out for 2-3 months, Ben White has been out for a long time too, half the defence have been out at one time or another, Liverpool in contrast have not had any of their key players out for extended periods, Van Dijk, Salah, Trent etc have all been healthy, it's actually quite remarkable that Arsenal have managed to stay in the race (just) for as long as they have, and have actually kept pace with Liverpool since Dec 1, when Liverpool opened up a 9 point lead after 13 games.

Think this result is being blown out of proportion a little bit, it will feel very sweet to Arsenal of course and I wouldn't begrudge them that, always a pleasure to see City and Pep lose.
But when you look deeper into it they were helped out a lot by City errors and a lucky deflection, yes that old saying that you can only beat what is in front of you but they were certainly helped out. Arsenal had to win this game to keep the gap to 6 points, yes they have played a game more than Liverpool but that game is just over a week away from being caught up. So they're in the same place they were coming into the weekend as they are coming out of it. They also still have to go to Anfield.
I don't think either side can go the rest of the season without dropping points, but if Liverpool go to Goodison and win they'll have a 9 point cushion that Arsenal will have to catch up and then build a lead and also maintain it. I know whose position I'd rather be in and they aren't based in London.
Final note, suck that up Micah Richards! The most biased Man City mouthpiece out there!

If Liverpool maintain their current points per game they finish on 93. If Arsenal win every game left (very unlikely) then they only finish on 92. For context, Arsenals longest consecutive run of wins in the league all season is 3 games. A lot needs to change for Arsenal to win the league from here.

Amazing win for Arsenal, happy for them. I know this will annoy Arsenal fans but as a Liverpool supporter I'd rather have Arsenal 9 points behind and City 18 points behind than have them both at 12 points behind.
City scare me way more than Arsenal. Arsenal are amazing in these big games but they drop points against mid table sides. City are playing poor but once the new players integrate wouldn't surprise me if they go on a big run.

    • @davinnicode

Although making some very good transfers I feel that Arsenal is still too dependent on certain players like Saka or Odegaard and are not capable of replacing them to really get through tougher games. And of course the striker situation is bad. It almost feels like back in the Wenger days when Arsenal were close but were too stubborn to improve the team and push for the title

Agreed mate as an Arsenal fan. Our record against the teams in the top half this season have been underwhelming. No way we are going on a 14 match winning run until the end of the season.
No disrespect, think you guys are surely going to drop points but it will be all familiar story of us failing to capitalize on that.
Early congratulations if you guys win the title. Will be deservedly so if you all do win.

Quick answer, yes the win against City was immense! The problem is Liverpool. Liverpool keep surprising me. I truly thought Liverpool were nearing a type of burnout, or the burnout was inevitable. Yet as we have seen, Liverpool without Klopp keep getting more invincible. They hit Bournemouth 2-0!? After they have played so many matches in quick succession. I'm very surprised at Liverpool. Reminds me of their victory against AC Milan in 2005 was it? That unbelievable UCL win. That means this team has juju. Arsenal probably wont manage to get the league.

A couple of decent results recently, but they bottled a two goal lead recently in Paris and at brentford. Much better at home, yet they lost to united 1-2 and spurs 0-4 back in December and November.

Let's slow our roll a bit and first acknowledge that City were dreadful on the day. It was perhaps their most listless, uninspired match of the entire season, and that's saying something. Next, Liverpool have a game in hand. I know folks like to base everything on "the gap" without citing context, but Liverpool probably passed their biggest hurdle of February yesterday against Bournemouth and they still have a match to make up against a poor Everton side. Finally, this is Arsenal we're talking about. They're a quality side but they don't have the depth Liverpool which means competing in both the league and CL will take its toll over the next few months. Something will give.
