also, just a few mins back, I achieved switching the scene in obs with vmix on another pc, using the obs midi plugin along with the rtp midi , as you have revealed, thanks so much.
Clever solution We use Midi triggers all the time including the feedback to motorized faders. So. Very familiar with the Midi commands and "feedback" so..very clever solution
I used the rtpmidi along with midi2key on second pc to change ppt slides and then used vmix desktop capture to bring in the second pc ppt slides to first pc running vmix + rtpmidi+ webcontroller/ ppt clicker
One thing I dont think you covered is enabling the RTPmidi ports on both machines so that the MIDI is sent and received on those specific network connections.
This is exactly what I’ve been trying to achieve for a while without success so thanks for the clear explanation. Two things I’m not clear on: 1. I run RTP midi on both machines, then which machine is connecting to which? Is it the machine with vmix sending activator? 2. I already have a midi device to control shortcuts, I should presumably configure RTP midi to use different midi channel?
Hi, Glad it helped. Either end of Rtpmidi can make the connection, doesn't matter which end. Then treat it as a normal midi device. So yes, if you already have a device then best change to another midi channel. The controlling vmix machine is sending an activator.
@@Streamingtech Great I've got it set up now and working brilliantly. My problem was a combination of not setting up RTP properly so thanks for clear explanation
John love your videos, please keep at it ! Also is it possible to use the X32 as a control surface (I know you use x32 rack which is not the same) to send MIDI commands over Ethernet using RTP-MIDI. I have tried this and can not connect RTP to the x32.
Hi thanks Lee. If you have an x32 you can use it as a midi controller as well. If I remeber the bus master faders become midi controllers. Just enable midi mode on the desk. The x32 manual has details on this.
It is very primitive example. Could you explain how to send ANY shortcut from master vMix to slave vMix ? For example I press "A" shortcut on master PC, how to say this to slave vMix?
I actually figured out the reason for the musical note I had the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth activated, that was sending a C note into the program. Just to leave it registered for whoever tries it in the future 😬
🤯 - something so simple but can be so powerful! Thank you for the explanation. Out of interest, do you need 2 licenses to run 2 instances of Vmix in that way or just the 1?
Please do more of these. They are so good.

This is great! I've used this to control Resolume on my MBP 16" through my vMix on PC
Thank you so much for this tip. I am planning to activate some tasks from one vmix machine to another and this is exactly what I need.
Amazing. Thank you..This is what i was looking for

wow thanks so so much well explained very very useful
Fantastic! I'm sure that can be useful. I'm not sure where yet, but I'm sure it can. Thank you again

Hey. I did mention choosing a port, and showed clicking the enable button. May not have mentioned clicking it though 😀
Nice work

Genious!
Very cool, thanks!

I followed your step by step, but the VMix isn’t sending the midi signal to the other machine. Do you have any ideas of what should be causing that?
Check that you have enabled the midi device in vmix. Its in the shortcuts and activators section
Yeah that was the problem! Thank you!
Now it’s working, but I am getting an actually C playing into my system everytime I use the activators 😅
I actually figured out the reason for the musical note I had the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth activated, that was sending a C note into the program. Just to leave it registered for whoever tries it in the future 😬
You have the wave synth enabled. Just disable that. Unless off course you want to play a tune as well 😀
Thanks for the help Jon! It was a genial find! I will be playing with this next week
Can this system be use to overlays on different system?
Sure. You can trigger anything vmix supports with shortcuts
@@Streamingtech Alright. Thank you. I'll try it out
Can't configure or midi doesn't respond to other machine though connected
I'm having the same problem.

I think 2
@mohammed fathi they are not intended to concurrent. IOW, not at the same time. Correct me if I’m wrong.
@@DaleChristenson they can be used at the same time yeah
@@Mid0z1 thank you for correcting me
Can 2 vmix’s run on the same computer?
There is an option in vmix settings to allow multiple instances so you could run it more than once. Only one set of hardware resources though :)
