Egypt (Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Most Colorful Egyptian Tombs)

You can visit any three tombs with your entrance ticket except:
1- Tombs of Ramesses V & VI 180 EGP per person
2- KV17 - Seti I 1,800 EGP per person
3- KV62 - Tutankhamun 500 EGP per person
If you only visit three tombs, your total cost is 600 EGP plus 20 EGP for the short tram ride to the Valley. (roughly $20 USD).
But, if you visit the three extra tombs as well, which we definitely recommend, your total cost will be 3100 EGP per person (about $100 USD).
The extra tombs’ artwork on the walls and ceiling are simply mesmerizing, with vibrant colors and fabulous hieroglyph carvings from the floor to the ceiling!
Tickets are only available at the visitor center; you cannot purchase them at the Valley. If you decide to add an extra tomb, you must return to the visitor center.
We decided to travel independently to have more control over our itinerary, allowing us to explore each area at our own pace. We would research our destinations the night before and then take a taxi the next morning. While this approach had its drawbacks, such as negotiating taxi fares, we felt it was worth it.
Our time in the Valley of the Kings was particularly memorable. We spent hours there, marveling at the unique beauty of each tomb.
If you choose to hire a guide, note that they are not allowed inside the tombs. Your guide will provide an overview of your visit and tips on what to look for in each tomb. You will then explore the tombs on your own.
We were staying on the west bank, so we managed to get to the Valley with a 15 minute- taxi-ride. If you stay on the east bank, you can cross the river using public ferry which is right beside Luxor library and leaves every 10-15 minutes and costs 15 EGP per person. Then you can get a taxi, van, or even a tuk tuk to get you anywhere on the west side.
The attendants will constantly approach you offering to take your photo or show you small room or sanctuary located off of the main hallway. If you accept their offer, you need to tip them.
Have a bottle of water with you as it gets really hot during the day. There is cafeteria in the center of the valley but expect to pay 10 times more than the regular price for each item.
Cairo and Luxor passes info during October 2023:
Please note that you can buy a Cairo pass ticket to visit all the sites open for 5 days in the areas of Cairo and Giza except National Museum of Civilization and the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Ticket price for foreign students (50 dollars - 45 euros) and ordinary foreigners (100 dollars - 90 euros).
The Luxor pass to visit the archaeological sites in Luxor for 5 days and Luxor service are of two types:
The first category Premium: includes all the archaeological sites in Luxor that are open to visit without any exceptions, the ticket price for the foreign students (100 dollars - 90 euros) and the ordinary foreigner is 200 dollars - 180 euros.
The second category: Standard includes all sites except for the tombs of Nefertari and Seti I. The ticket price for the student (50 dollars - 45 euros) and the ordinary foreigner (100 dollars - 90 euros).
You can obtain them from the ticket office of the pyramids from (7:00 AM to 6:00 PM) or Egyptian Museum in Tahrir from (9:00 AM to7:00 PM) or the Citadel from (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) , or the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Zamalek 3 Al-Adel Abu Bakr Street near El-Sawy Culture Wheel - Abu El-Fad - Zamalek - Cairo working hours from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm except Friday and Saturday.
The outlets for selling Luxor and Cairo pass tickets in Luxor is located in the Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor considering that the visiting hours for both sites starting from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Noting that the ticket office for any archaeological site is closed an hour before the closing time of the archaeological site.
To get the Luxor or the Cairo pass, a passport must be presented.
Considering that if you obtain a Cairo pass ticket and a Luxor pass ticket, you will get half the price of one of them and pay the other one in full price, however you can buy a Cairo pass card and after a few days buy a Luxor pass and get a discount to buy it together, you only have to keep the original permit you purchased to get the discount.
Papers required:
A copy of the passport and personal photos to be placed on the permit - a proof that he is a student (student card and must be valid), provided that he is not over 30 years old.
