I think Luke can handle this situation well, the loss of tourists is evident, so touts focus on every tourist who comes there, and they were clearly outnumbered. But the place's not to blame, it is beautiful, so rather than "Avoid This Egyptian City (as it's written in the title) I'd say... "Prepare Well For This Egyptian City". Thumbs up to you and the honest boatman!!!
Had exactly the same experience as you about 15 years ago and it hasn't changed.. However, it was all kind of worth it for the faluca journey and the horse ride I had into the desert. I had to pay off the guy to let me take the horse there by myself but was so worth it.. The rest was truly bad though, and the tourist temple "remains" were underwhelming. A place to go only one time ever, or maybe not at all... :(

Ooff, from seeing your videos I don't think I would want to visit that country unless they really change around, which I doubt will happen anytime soon. It's sad tho, because Egypt has many beautiful ancient sites to visit and their history is 10/10.
i was going to write the same comment.. i like to watch videos discovering new places , but started to worry about Luke and the fun turned out to be stressful .. these ancient sites weren't built by Egyptians , because the first 6 dynasty rulers were canaanites from Lebanon , that is why real Egyptians went ont smash the noses if their sphynx as a symbol of humiliation whent they kicked out the first pharaohs .. from Lebanon- Canaan.. and Manetho the oldest and most important Egyptian historian who listed the names of all the Egyptians kings who ruled Egypt , feigned to ignore the first 6 non egytian dynasty rulers as well as the Hyksos ( later on , who were the canaanites that the Egyptians called Hyksos) .. Byblos in Lebanon was the economic and religious capital for the Egyptians for many centuries .. they used to pray in the temple of astrate in byblos where we found more than 3000 obleysks dedicated from Egyptian kings and citizens honoring Astrate of Lebanon... but it is like generalized not to dig for the truth mostly for political reasons .
It was only yesterday I discovered your channel, and now I'm happily stucked. As a person you are so admirable. Lots of things to learn from you. Take care Luke 🌼

It is good to see someone who cares. I think it was pretty clear in the video. If you need more examples, just search RUclips for "Egypt". I haven't searched and I already know many issues that need to be fixed before I would even think about visiting.
Luke, you are the coolest guy and always cheerful in difficult situations but this is the first time i've ever seen you getting stressed by these guys. Luxor truly is such a tout place, its impossible to go out of the hotel without getting hassled constantly.
I went to Luxor in July. I loved the city, but the harassment is of epic proportion. I don't understand why the Egyptian government allows it. If not prepared, I can definitely see how the harassment could ruin one's experience.
I believe that soon the Egyptian government will do something, I am Egyptian and I have seen many Egyptian making protest videos against these touts that annoy tourists, Egyptians are not like these touts... So im really so sorry for your bad exprience...😕
I was there with my husband. My hotel was 10 minutes walk from Luxor Temple. We dscided to walk there, nice romantic walk along the Nile in sunset. What a mistake! We were being so harassed and followed that we ran to the Temple and couldn't enjoy it because I was so nervous and I was thinking the whole time how will we get back to the hotel. Rest of the trip we were in Hotel ordering room service :)
If you refuse somebody they say “you reject my hospitality” but you don’t let them lay a guilt trip on you! It isn’t about “hospitality” it is about them getting into your pockets! Tell them exactly that! Then do a mime like you are casting a fishing rod out and reeling in fish! They always laughed at that one!

Felucca price, it's so good it was almost the same amount I paid the last time we went out for a picnic and "Mahmoud" i think he is a good man so next times i'll go with him. According to the harassment that happened to you, we the Luxor people are exposed to what happens to you, whether in Luxor or in the rest of the archaeological sites.. I pray that this behavioral phenomenon ends soon. I wish if you were still in Luxor it would have been my pleasure to host you.. so I hope your visit to Luxor will be repeated soon.
The guy in the boat, his name is Mahmoud, you misheard him. He is really good and helpful. They have had a difficult few years with very little business and he has his family, a wife and small child to support.
@@KLC6432 - very easy to say but have you seen the level of unemployment there and the very basic education that is available to the poorer? There just aren’t opportunities on every street corner. A construction labourer there will earn one hundred and fifty pounds a day!
Luxor is an amazing city and a must visit if you like history. You just have to avoid those annoying a******. The more you talk, the worse they become. You are also a little extra friendly, asking him at 8:00 about his name, sometimes carrying out a conversation with strangers in a touristic place isn't the right thing honestly. If you go to the North Coast in Egypt, that's where all the fun is for Egyptians every summer, 100 pounds would get you a cup of coffee and that's the price Egyptians are paying so its actually more expensive than all the touristic places in Egypt since the North Coast is visited by Egyptians mostly.
You are lucky Luke you have gotten some good prices that locals may not be able to have them 😀 this is related to the dead season affected by covid .Great videos .hope to see you in Egypt again
I went to Egypt in 2011. I had a great time, but the number of people just constantly coming over to you gets old. You do have to say No firmly. 1 thing I did was rent a driver. My hotel coordinated it and they got me a driver for everyday I was there in every city I went to. it was cheap and had no problems just tipped the driver at the end of the day. They drove and stayed at the location while I walked or I would call and tell them to pick me up at a location I walked to.Also they know all the back ways and where to take you to really see the site not the tourist bus stuff. I went to Cairo, Aswan, Luxor, Alexandria. I want to go back again just to go to the new Museum in Cairo.

I couldn’t keep as calm as you , I would be telling them to leave me alone to enjoy my day! Totally spoils the experience😞 they are trying to make a living but they would make more by being respectful and more tourists would visit knowing they won’t be hassled 🙈
Yeah they are driving tourists away left and right by doing this behaviour. Sure you might hassle a tourist hard enough for some small money, but in the longterm, he will tell his friends & family about his bad experience, and you build a reputation that this place is a horrible destination for tourists. And as Luke said, true hospitality is shown in areas like Pakistan, where people dont approach you constantly, and they sit back and let you approach them instead. If egyptians cant do that, and make their own living without relying on harassing tourists, then clearly they are driven by nothing than greed for short-term gain, instead of longterm prosperity. Also they clearly don't respect their own religion which holds hospitality to a very high standard.... Im really disappointed in t hem, as an Egyptian who lives abroad, this is unacceptable behavior, and they should be ashamed of themselves. But so does the corrupt government
I think it is terrible the way the hassle and bother tourists. I realize they are trying to make a living, I love egypt and would love to visit, but that really makes me NOT want to go

👍👍👍
Well said
"Learn how to say no in a direct and misunderstable way" would be my title
Had exactly the same experience as you about 15 years ago and it hasn't changed.. However, it was all kind of worth it for the faluca journey and the horse ride I had into the desert. I had to pay off the guy to let me take the horse there by myself but was so worth it.. The rest was truly bad though, and the tourist temple "remains" were underwhelming. A place to go only one time ever, or maybe not at all... :(
U know what, man I like how Luke names chapters within each vlog. Shows u how much effort went into shooting this footage! Awesome ;)

As a non-white I get hassled a lot less in places where I don't speak the language or understand it's culture. However, I do experiance second grade services at times, as it is assumed that I won't shell out money or won't tip well for the service. But overall, I'm just happy to be left free and not harrassed.

Watching you from lockdown in Canberra Luke. Great videos and living vicariously through your amazing travels. You're such a nice guy with a fantastic smile. Keep sharing the vibes man!
Thanks for watching Marc, hope you get outta lockdown ASAP!!!

He actually said he sorted the boat guy out.
I found it funny, bro is on boat says how does it operate by the sail flag. Then about 10 minutes later asks what if there's now wind , how do we get back?
Damn that would had been a good question much earlier just in case lol
You're more patient than me. My tolerance for scammers is around 11 seconds. I'm not as nice as you are with them.
Ooff, from seeing your videos I don't think I would want to visit that country unless they really change around, which I doubt will happen anytime soon. It's sad tho, because Egypt has many beautiful ancient sites to visit and their history is 10/10.
I saw so many videos of egypt i would honestly not go as tourist....
i was going to write the same comment.. i like to watch videos discovering new places , but started to worry about Luke and the fun turned out to be stressful .. these ancient sites weren't built by Egyptians , because the first 6 dynasty rulers were canaanites from Lebanon , that is why real Egyptians went ont smash the noses if their sphynx as a symbol of humiliation whent they kicked out the first pharaohs .. from Lebanon- Canaan.. and Manetho the oldest and most important Egyptian historian who listed the names of all the Egyptians kings who ruled Egypt , feigned to ignore the first 6 non egytian dynasty rulers as well as the Hyksos ( later on , who were the canaanites that the Egyptians called Hyksos) ..
I encourage any tourist who don't find the experience they wish for to make a video like what you did and tell us what you disproved and wanted not to see in your visit. Your feedback is important, and we are working very hard to make the tourist experience better than before.
It is good to see someone who cares. I think it was pretty clear in the video. If you need more examples, just search RUclips for "Egypt". I haven't searched and I already know many issues that need to be fixed before I would even think about visiting.
The best thing about your videos is that these are Raw and Real nothing sugar coated.
Keep em coming 😍
Continue doing these videos they are amazing 🔥

I was there with my husband. My hotel was 10 minutes walk from Luxor Temple. We dscided to walk there, nice romantic walk along the Nile in sunset. What a mistake! We were being so harassed and followed that we ran to the Temple and couldn't enjoy it because I was so nervous and I was thinking the whole time how will we get back to the hotel. Rest of the trip we were in Hotel ordering room service :)

Egypt 🇪🇬 hospitality 🤣 = scary 😧
The boat 🚤 captain 👨✈️ deserves a ⭐️ .
I went last year from oz too. Add men staring and following to the mix as well
Don't generalize whole of egyptian hospitality just because of some people.
Egyptians are very hospitable , experience it yourself.
I don’t know how you do it man. Stumbled on to this channel and I’ve seen 95% of your vids. Even thou I would never see myself traveling to these places, I love the content. I gotta say thou I am dying to try CHEESE PARATHA 🫓 😂
Cheese paratha is sooooo good as is mince meat paratha. Do give it a try!
I had the same experience in Egypt - every single person justs wants to milk you, the excuses and stories they use became very tiring towards the end of the trip. I would avoid until they sort this nonsense out.

100 pounds for 1 hour is very cheap to be honest even for Egyptians you can't find this price easily

Probably should think about doing something else then.
@@KLC6432 - very easy to say but have you seen the level of unemployment there and the very basic education that is available to the poorer? There just aren’t opportunities on every street corner. A construction labourer there will earn one hundred and fifty pounds a day!

I love the boat guy, he seems so genuine

My life in Egypt was smooth sailing..I spent the best of my life in giza cairo from 2000 to 2004 since I speak Arabic..it was an amazing experience.

I like how he got more and more comfortable in the boat what an adorable moment
OMG the amount of patience Luke has is ridiculous...
