Very good explanation of this Commander size 1911. I especially enjoy watching you beam each time you praise 1911’s. I feel much the same way about them. Oh. And by the way, I couldn’t help noticing today when you were telling we viewers that one of us would win that super cool reloading press and you pointed at and looked directly at ME! Have this model for quite some time now and overall I am very pleased with it.
It has been reliable and shoots well!
The trigger on mine is very light and you must be mindful or you could easily have a unintentional round go off before you know it?
My only real complaint is the thumb safety on mine is sloppy and mushy. There is also quite a bit of overtravel when the safety is thumbed off. I did have the safety replaced recently and it is a lot better but not as precise and definite as I would like.
Good gun! Glad I bought it! Glad I have it! Glad you gave us content on it!!!!

    • @EdwardMartinsPhotography
      @EdwardMartinsPhotography 2 года назад +2

Same here, love the guns, hate the mushy thumb safety and the over travel. Every Ruger 1911 I own does it. Maybe it has something to do with the spring tube for the safety being part of the frame eliminating that common point of failure on other 1911's? Or not. Still great guns for the money.

I have the lightweight Commander with the aluminum alloy frame. It's a great firearm. I also have the same thing in 9mm. I've had a host of reliability issues with the 9mm version and currently Ruger has possession of it for the second time. I really like the gun and I'm hoping that they'll be able to get it working properly for me.
    UPDATE >
It now appears as if the issues were ammunition related. This firearm is very picky about which hollow points it will feed and fire reliably. The Hornady 135 grain +P hollow point with the Flex Lock bullet works great.

I've had my Ruger Lightweight Commander for about 10 years now, and she has approximately 2372 rounds downrange. She carries well in a Bianchi shoulder holster, and loves Chip McCormick Power Mags, as well as the two 7 round mags she came with. I do have a stack of G.I. mags that she feeds well, but doesn't lock the slide back: although she feeds, and ejects with all of them. She feeds hollow points as well but who can afford them? The .45 AUTO has worn down to something like .45 AUIO, and she's pretty Lucy Goosy, but she runs better than ever.

Nicely done review. First time seeing your channel and I am now a new subscriber. My department allows us to carry either their issued Glocks or what we want at our own expense. It has to pass safety and reliability checks and range qualification to be approved for our duty weapon. The Ruger SR1911 Commander passed with no problem and I have been carrying it for over 4 years now as my duty weapon. Only changes I made to it for personal reasons was installing a Wilson mag well, G-10 Starburst grips, front night site and installed an Trijicon AC32058 RMR Pistol Mount plate with the HOLOSUN HE507C-GR X2 Green Circle Dot/Solar sight and 4 Wilson 8 round magazines. Since then, 2 other officers have gone to the same setup after trying mine out. Nice knowing that I live only an hour drive away from Prescott, AZ if I ever did have a problem. Thanks again for the review and yes, I have that same smile on my face that you did when you fired it lol.

I own one of these that I have had for several years. So long, in fact, that "out the door", I paid just under $600.00 new. Mine has the lowered and flared ejection port. Ruger no longer flares the ejection port. The trigger deserves to be mentioned...just over 3lbs with no creep. This is one of the very few 1911's I own that I have just left the trigger alone. All the sharp corners have been rounded slightly. In short, an underrated Commander that can still be had for reasonable money and backed by Ruger's guarantee. I've been very happy with mine, hope you'll enjoy yours too.

Dealt with James the assistant manager. He ended up canceling my order Tuesday. I wish I had read the reviews about them first..
I'll never buy anything from those Crooks..
I'm ordering this same pistol from basspro in the morning. They'll match bud's prices.. and no shipping or transfer fee's.

Did Ruger include the spent round with the weapon?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Commanders have that short stroke, ejection can be a problem no brass should touch you , should eject to 2:30 seen one bounce off your arm , these production 1911s The factory just slaps them together , colt for a fact does not tune their extractors , my first .45 was a colt commander, the extractor would let go of the case and stovepipe the brass all the time , I didn’t know much back then , I took it to bill at the cylinder and slide , Fremont NE , he had no idea he said I been having a lot of problems like that,, I eventually sold it , 30 years later I found out he was taking all the guns people gave him to fix to bob marvel, and having him fix them , oh well , the problem I had takes 10 minutes to fix ,, you put tension on the extra,

Awww, @Mark Allen, thank you so much!! You have made my whole day. To answer your question, my Bul Commander is chambered in 9mm, while the Ruger was a 45ACP, so that makes a little difference because my Bul is lighter in that regard. The Bul has a smoother action than the Ruger. They both have a solid, sturdy feel, but I like the trigger on the Bul better because it's a little crisper. The Ruger did NOT have an ambi safety but neither does our Bul. Thank you so much for subscribing, Mark! I'm glad you're here!
