    When this came out in 1967 there was another song that came out the same year that was like a book end to this song. Nights In White Satin by the Moody Blues. Would suggest you do the 1997 live in the NEC in the UK version

      I agree with you. In 1967 when the song was released I was 13 and I'm still listening it because is a masterpiece. The Gary's voice has more tone now than back in the sixties. R.I.P. Gary

    The studio version of this song which came out in the 60's was great but this live version is stupendous as the orchestra and choir give it more depth. Gary Brooker's voice aged like a fine wine. R.I.P. Gary.

      Reminds of how ( at least years ago ) you would hear a muzak version of it some public place. I think that died out and these days a restaurant for example has a music channel subscription to play original music recordings.

    From first hearing this song while walking on a beach road on a hand held transistor radio in 1967 to a full orchestra with high tech headphones. Nothing has changed, still one of the greatest songs in my lifetime.

    🇨🇦 Procol Harum was an English rock band, consisting of 2 guitarists, a drummer, an organist and Gary on the piano ! This was written and released in 1967 ! (You should watch the original video when you get a chance)
    This outdoor concert from 2006, was hosted by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Procol Harum was their invited guests ! The Orchestra has over 70 Choir members and over 100 Musicians ! 🇨🇦

    Procol Harum is the name of the Band. Gary Brooker is the singer (he passed last year). This song was a hit in 1967 and this is an amazing version with the full orchestra. BTW I saw Procol Harum live in 1971 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Robin Trower was the guitar player.

    Fantastic intro by the Danish orchestra, the usual - but xtraordinary and powerful - delivery of Gary, bull's eye comments of an absolutely stunning woman by the name of Emma on a song that just pierces my heart again and again to release tears - but " our tears were tears of joy" - ("A Salty Dog" by PH).

    I grew up listening to the Procul Harum and they always left me mesmerized...I was already dazed and confused, Bless the 60"s. Very nice presentation young lady...Bravo!

    This was number 1 in the uk charts when I was born. It's still one of my favourite tracks & this live version is an absolkute classic!! Great choice!! :)

    I recommend listening to new Luke Black song Chainsaws in Paradise. He's a great independent artist and has released this new new song few days ago in mix of pop industrial metal genre.

    Gary Brooker’s voice aged soooo well. I would suggest listening to the studio version from 1967 so you can hear his young voice. Also the song Conquistador live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra from I think 1973 or thereabouts.

      Recorded in 1971 and released in '72. It also has definitive versions of two of Procol's best, Whaling Stories and In Held Twas in I.

      I had that album and we played it a lot. It was kind of cool to have the hometown orchestra playing with "famous people." Turns out that the band asked, and the conductor and manager said, "Yeah, that'll be fun."

    It sounds a little bit slower, because of the beautiful Orchestra, than the original that I used to hear all night long at the Main Gate, at Sweetwater AFS, Sweetwater, Texas, in the middle of 1967.... Loved, loved, all the 60's music !!!! These guys = Absolutely Killed It !!!!

    Hello, this is such a beautiful song. A number of other bands have covered this song. They are all awesome, but Procol Harum is my favorite version - they wrote it and it’s their song.

    Gary Brooker had one of the most unique voices in popular music. To me it sounded dry, British and intensely soulful all at the same time. Listen to "Grand Hotel" for an example and listen to the studio version instead of the live version.

    I grew up listening to this song often in the 90's, on a collection CD my mom had of the songs from her teens in the 60's and 70's. It's beautiful in it's orginal studio version and as amazing here live, sung by the same man, almost 4 decades later. The Danish National Orchestra is a fantastic one aswell.
    Next year is the 100 year anniversary for The Danish National Orchestra, so might be worth checking out their scheduale for the year (2025) to see if you can get a chance to join in on the celebrations. 😊

    Funny that the inspiration for this song is the Air on a G string by good old Johann S. Bach, Gary Brooker got off a bit and that led to this phenomenal pop hit.
