This was a great tier list the only one that I was surprised to see this low was Super Mario Bros 2, sure the game it's great but I thought it was fun and a little more fun than the first one in my opinion plus it was the first Mario game where you can play as different character and I could be wrong on the this but if they didn't make this game we possible wouldn't have gotten characters/enemies like Shy Guys, Snifits, Pokey, Bomb-ombs, Ninji's, and Birdo, but like I said great tier list if I would have to say my favorite Mario game is probably Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 I could choose what I think is better but I can't decide so I love them both the same

I had a pipe-dream hope that Nintendo would throw DS 64 in that 3D all stars pack as like a selectable version on 64. I really think good controls would do wonders to make that version shine a bit more.

Just a side note: Never play Mario Maker on 3DS. It doesn't even have online functionality.

64ds is my favorite version of the game personally, but the original 64 is amazing as well. I loved the multiplayer and mini games in sm64ds making me personally place it over 64.

Sunshine is really good and deserves a part 2 or hd remake or remaster. Forget 64 hd or galaxy 3 or odyssey 2. Sunshine 2 is what I want
I'm sick of remakes, I say no to remakes. All these silly Pokemon remakes and now people want a Sunshine remake, Jesus Christ! Sunshine's story finished on the GameCube, that is final!

For me Mario 3d world is an S tier. The post game content is ridiculously good. And the final stage is just amazing.

I cannot disagree more about your opinion of Super Mario 64 DS. I do understand the gripe about the controls if you were used to the original (Which I was not) but I think that they were improved tenfold. The movement system is not 8 directions, like 3D Land/World. It uses an automatic turning system (A la Spyro the Dragon) to simulate 3D movement, which admittedly does seem rather imprecise at times. But besides that, DS has the same control scheme later used in 3D Land, 3D World, and Odyssey. Mario 64 DS added full camera control and an OOT-style camera lock, and the only stars it replaced were the ones no one cared about (Like the 5 secrets in the pyramid). It also has massively improved graphics and a TON of bonuses. I respect your opinion, but I just think you're wrong.

Awesome tier list man, only thing I would change is that nsmb2 would probably be in the low tier, it introduced nothing new, had no new enemies aside from gold or bone ones, and the whole coin shenanigan just felt off for me, other than that, great tier list

Naw it was probably my 4th or 5th Mario. My first was Mario 3
@@InfiniteBits Interesting. It seems you prefer the slower, more "open" Mario games, and i thought maybe that was the reason. Thats cool though. For me personally, i feel Mario functions best when it expands upon its roots, which is probably why my favorites in the series are Galaxy 2, World, and 3, in that order.

I like how the 2 in super Mario bros 2 got completed because super Mario bros 1 has that curve at the bottom
literally the only few things I'd change would be sticking Mario 64 in D, moving smm1 and 2 closer to front of A, and making Odyssey front of S tier.
I like super Mario land I agree with u. Loved the music the gameplay was tight and I loved the flying missions. It was short but it was a handheld game for a system that ran on batteries.

I agree with everything except for 3d world not being at S. Hahaha. IDK I just love that game to much
OG Mario Bros should be at the front of B, Mario 3 should by dropped to front of A, Galaxy 1 should be at the front, followed by Super Mario World, Galaxy 2, Odyssey, and then SM64. Agree with everything else, though!
Pretty solid tier list, that’s pretty similar to mine, only really noticeable differences for me, is that land would be lower, odyssey would be lower, while Sunshine and Galaxy 2 would be higher, but pretty good overall.
Also, you getting the 3D All Stars collection or what?
Thanks, similar taste in games I see. And honestly I was expecting 3D all stars to be better, was disappointing to me lol. If the graphics were redone I would get it but I've played all those games and theres no new content so it's an easy pass....

I like that you are reasonable enough to not put smb at s tier, just bc its the first one. So many people do that.
Totally agree with Galaxy 2. It just didn’t wow me as much as Galaxy 1 did.
Mario Sunshine did many great things and had amazing ideas and then came the pinball machine and the lilipad mission ... uhhh the lilipad mission.
The only disagreement I have is I think Mario Sunshine was an easy S! But that’s my opinion!

I mostly agree with your list. The only changes I would've made were:
1. Put Super Mario Bros. in A tier for setting the standard of gaming as a whole.
2. Bump The Lost Levels to the top of C tier.
3. Put Super Mario Land 2 near the top of B tier but slightly below New Super Mario Bros.
4. Put New Super Mario Bros. U below Super Mario Land because in my opinion every New Super Mario Bros game after the original felt lazy and uninspired and overall didn't have much to offer. (The final boss of of NSMBU was one of the best 2D boss fights in the franchise's history I'll say that much)
5. Bump Super Mario 3D Land to the middle of B tier since the game overall felt a bit too safe.
6. Put New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Wii under Super Mario 64 DS.
7. Put Super Mario Galaxy 2 in S tier below the first one. I feel like the game added enough gameplay-wise to stand on ts own as on of the best video games of all time such as new level ideas, bigger levels and even more spectacular boss fights.
8. Put Super Mario Maker 2 over Super Mario 3D World.
9. Put Super Mario Odyssey at the top of S-tier.
But that's just my personal opinion it was interesting to see yours.

first doesn't mean best. I don't get why nobody understands this. this game's aged terribly. even though it's influential, there's no reason to play this game when the other mario games do the same things but better. I'd honestly say the same things about mario 64. it's influential but painfully outdated, and isn't the best in the series by a long shot.
I agree with your statements about the NSMB series though. the first one's great, but the others just feel like the same game.

@@sooubic I don't think I even need to explain why the original super mario bros has aged badly. it speaks for itself. the controls are terrible, the graphics are primitive, the damage system is flawed, the level design is filled with what people would call trolls today, and it's just generally not a fun experience at all. I hate the idea of calling an outdated game/movie/whatever better than everything else just because it was good "for its time."

I disagree with like a third of your placement, but i super enjoyed hearing your arguments! a lot of the time it's just because we look for different things in games and it's cool that just the nario franchise covers such a span of players
I do think you did the OG dirty though 😂 I understand why you see the limited environment as a negative, but I love the test of precision and control that only rudimentary Mario provides.

In my opinion, it does so much right and those things make is a masterpiece, but there are quite a bit of problems holding it back, blue coins, terrible controls in some areas, a bit lazy at times, must collect first seven shines in the levels. But other than this, it’s a complete masterpiece, I may have made it seem like I don’t like this game but that is not true, I love this game even though it has all of the problems that I just mentioned. Anyway, this is just my opinion and I respect yours.

I almost completely agree with this tier list! Although I personally think that Mario sunshine is slightly better than 64,
And Mario odyssey is the #1 best but other than that great tier list!
I can't understand why people sleep so hard on Sunshine and the NSMB series. Sure Sunshine has a garbage camera system but 64's is horrendous. Sure NSMB is unoriginal but the levels are so fun to fly through and it's still one of the best 2D platformers out there. I feel like a lot of the older game's shortcomings are over looked. I usually rank them lower than even the NSMB series

My favorite is New Super Mario Bros. and it was actually the first Mario game I played and owned. Super Mario Sunshine is second.
The first Mario game I played and owned was Super Mario Advance on the Game Boy Advance which had Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 2 together.

64ds takes everything done in 64 adds some to it and just made it better imo

Sunshine deserves a part two or hd remake or remaster... But it'll never happen
Dobule standard right there putting Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 on top after admitting earlier to preferring quicker gameplay. SMW committed the sin of taking the straightforward Mario style in the exploration, where it doesn't work as well as, say, Super Mario 2, and Mario 64 went even further. World was also easier and had less variety (in level styles and powerups) than 3. Great stuff, but a step back.
For me, Mario odyssey and 3D world are my favorite because of their level design
Personally I loved new super mario bros on the DS. The game looked great. Played great. Great levels. Awesome final level. But the mini games also helped make that game amazing for me

I would completely agree with this if you had put 64 ds above 64. Imo 64 ds is better in every way. Better controls imo, better camera, more characters, more levels, more stars, better graphics, multi-player, extra mini games. But other than that I completely agree

The one major disagreement I have is Super Mario Bros. 2 (the American version) deserves to be at least a C if not a B. It was the first game where you can play as Peach and Toad. You would have to wait untiI the next century for another game where you could play as them. I liked that each character had their own unique abilities. In Mario 1 and 3 Liugi is just Mario on St. Patrick's day and has the same abilities. The boss fights are arguably more cool than the boss fights in Mario 3 and definitely Mario 1. People who say its a Doki Doki rip off need to realize that the people who own Doki Doki also own Mario.
