Actually, lavender not vetiver is what makes a Barbershop fragrance. Examples are: Paco Rabanne , Azzaro Pour Homme and Brut. Even many of the ones you mentioned.
Great channel Matt! IMHO, my top barbershop frags would be: in no particular order except last on list: 10 Brut because it was endorsed by Muhammed Ali (and yes I am old enough to remember !) 9 Quorum 8 Rive Gauche, 7 4711 EDC, 6 Tabac EDC, 5 Old Spice EDC, 4 Worth EDT 3 Aramis Aramis for Men EDT 2 Paco Rabanne Homme EDT, 1 my favourite to this date, Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene
IMO Rive Gauche, Fougere Nobile and Sartorial are a must if you love the Fougere genre. I am looking to buy Masion Margiela Replica 'At the Barbers' soon, another worth a look
Great barbershop list Matt, loved watching this! Big fan of the Sung too👌there's a few in there that are on my wanted list😜 Tabac EDC and Canoe would probably be up there as some of my favourite cheapie(but excellent) barbershop frags I have.
Thanks man I appreciate that and thanks for watching! ☺ Tabac is an awesome scent but I only own the aftershave which really isn't the best for longevity. .one of the only aftershaves which isn't for me personally but the smell is awesome..and Canoe I haven't smelled yet. Thanks a lot man! ☺
Welcome Matt😊 I haven't tried the Tabac aftershave yet and I remember seeing your shaving vid when you used it. I have the EDC and EDT and love them both. You gotta try Canoe man it's a lovely old school vanilla fougere, very nice.
Good video, Aqua Velva and Lucky Tiger Aspen are proper Old School Barbershop smells also if you don't mind I would suggest that you try Hai-Karate available at Savers for £2.99 !
I don't think that what makes a "Barbershop" scent is Vetiver. The one indespensible note to "Barbershop" frags is lavender. Barbershop scents are predominantly fougeres. Fougeres are characterized by the classic defining note triad of lavender, coumarin, and oak moss. A barbershop fougere may not have all of these notes, especially coumarin which is often replaced with other green notes, but the further away from that note triad it gets the more difficult it gets to rationalize a "barbershop" classification or vibe. Especially without lavender. ""Barbershop" is the most overused and abused word in fragrances. There are a few mentioned here that I'm not familiar with. But outside of Brut by Faberge and Clubman, I don't think any mentioned were very good representatives of the genre. Here are some that imo and many others in the community are good representatives of the Barbershop fougere genre: Tom Ford Beau de Jour YSL Rive Gauche Azzaro Pour Homme Paco Rabanne Pour Homme Maison Martin Margiela Replica At the Barbers MDCI Invasion Barbare Penhaligon Sartorial Even Old Spice, of course, which is classified as a Spicy Oriental, could be thought if as a Barbershop scent. But the vast majority are fougeres. And Vetiver, although maybe present in many cases, does not define it.
I haven't but I've always wanted to try it. I need to give it a go! and if it's like Old Spice and Pinaud then I certainly want to try it ☺ thanks for watching! ☺
+FragranceMatt Aye,some one gave me half of a 1 ounce bottle...I thought it was weird and cheap to begin with but I came around to it....Both Old Spice and Canoe are 1930s scents so it must have been the scent vibe of that era that you are describing as the barber shop scent......Good list of stuff you have here and I never have treid any of them yet but it keeps my interest up .. Hey, you know I watch all your vids man ,!
No Old Spice!! Anyhow very good list! You should try Iceberg Pour Homme (original) if you want to try something different kind of barbershop scent! Peace...mate!
fragrancematt. You're right.. I'm a woman; I have it. Just to spray on my bed linnen now and then. I think it's very masculine and, indeed, quite 'barbery'😆
Nice choices I have Quorum...didn't like the old-school fragrances, at first, but really grew to love 'em. I've never tried Worth Pour Homme but it can be found here pretty cheap...except they're all in splash bottles, which I can't stand. Also, it looks like this one may be similar to Sung Homme. Can you compare these two if you've tried Sung? I've never tried Preferred Stock of Clubman but they're pretty darn cheap. One of these days! Oh, what and the heck happened to Rive Gauche? It's the pinnacle of barber shop fragrances IMO. Anyway, enjoyed...
Hey man thanks for watching! ☺ Yes Worth is white rare but over here it's found pretty much in all EDT sprays and nah its not really like Sung Homme it's more grassy as aposed to SH is more soapy and heady. And well Sung Homme is my No. 1 in this list haha
hi Matt great video as all ways Jovan musk that brings back memories is there any chance you could do a video on applying fragrances that would be great and interesting cheers kev 👍
Hello Kev! thank you buddy I appreciate that yes Jovan sure is a nice classic scent which I wear all the time actually ☺ and yeah that's a good idea I've been thinking about doing that all the time! thanks for giving me the motivation haha 😆
I saw a review you did on Quorum back in 2014, you mention you would not wear it for any occasion because it is so dated. Do you feel the same way about it belonging to another century? BTW, you do some very great fragrant reviews.
Hello! I'm surprised you remember me from that review haha my views on Quorum have changed so much and yes I do. I now believe and will always believe that you should wear what you like, age range shouldn't matter as long as you are happy and healthy and you truly believe that the smell you wear is who you are, then that's all that matters ☺ thank you so much for watching both this video and the old Quorum review I appreciate your comment! ☺
Love Preferred Stock. I have a vintage bottle and newer one. The vintage is twice as strong. Absolutely would make my barbershop list. Here in the states its considered a teenagers fragrance. It smells better than stuff 5X the price. Call me crazy I consider Sung Homme Preferred Stock's Older Brother Great List Matt.
Thanks man! Yes Preferred Stock is an awesome cheapie. I just love it and yknow it's funny you mention that because I've just smelt both and I do get similarities! ☺ thanks for mentioning that man! and thanks for watching! ☺
David Torres I am 63 years old and on a limited income. I looked at Preferred Stock (on Fragrantica) and what it was composed of, and I thought, why not? I wear Stetson (also by Coty) in the fall and winter, and so I figured Preferred Stock would be good for spring/summer. I know that different scents smell different on each person, but P.S. smelled horrible on me. I dislike "aqua" fragrances and all I got was aqua. It made me sick to my stomach ( just like Joop), so I took it back to the store. Caveat emptor, I guess!
Clubman to me just smells very cheap and like little more than vanilla. Lime Sec and Citrus Musk by Pinaud are both great citrus scents worthy of buying. No mention of Tabac Original? Tabac defines "barbershop" for me. Also try No. 6 and Newport by Caswell-Massey, just perfect.
Noticing afterwards there are so many scents that could have made the list! Jovan is amazing scent but I don't wear it all the time. These are my personal favorates. Thanks for watching!
Creed Green Irish Tweed kicked off the craze, not CoolWater. Olivier Creed is the creator of both of these scents, and CoolWater is a cheap clone of the much more expensive, much better smelling GIT.
It's 'The Peggle Introduction' by Pop Cap Games. I was the best player in the world at this game on the Xbox 360 :) ruclips.net/video/Dzx1ZIIiwtE/видео.html
your girlfriend doesn't want anybody else to want you ...pinaud is the truth. Sebastian turned me on the molinard 2. if you haven't smelled it I did a video on it, just look at my earliest vids the bottle is on the thumbnail.
Actually, lavender not vetiver is what makes a Barbershop fragrance.
Examples are: Paco Rabanne , Azzaro Pour Homme and Brut. Even many of the ones you mentioned.
i'd put 1725 by Histories de Parfums on the list. Lavender, vanilla, licorice. To me, its powdery turning to a vanilla amber. Love it.
Great channel Matt! IMHO, my top barbershop frags would be: in no particular order except last on list:
10 Brut because it was endorsed by Muhammed Ali (and yes I am old enough to remember !)
9 Quorum
8 Rive Gauche,
7 4711 EDC,
6 Tabac EDC,
5 Old Spice EDC,
4 Worth EDT
3 Aramis Aramis for Men EDT
2 Paco Rabanne Homme EDT,
1 my favourite to this date, Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene
Thank you and excellent list. Some good frags there! I love Aramis! Thanks for watching man!
IMO Rive Gauche, Fougere Nobile and Sartorial are a must if you love the Fougere genre.
I am looking to buy Masion Margiela Replica 'At the Barbers' soon, another worth a look
whats your opinion on Azzaro Pour Homme?
Hey homes you did QOURUM. The darkest awesome green moss cigar.
Green eyed brunettes love this
Finally somebody has Sung Homme in their top pick. Love it one of my favorites in my collection.
Great Video! I would recommend Lilac Vegetal. It might just be the ultimate barbershop scent.
Great idea and list, Matt. Could only have added Azzaro PH, Paco Rabane PH and Tabac.
Yeah I love Azzaro and Tobac but I don't own Pack yet. Maybe someday I can do another barbershop video I don't know yet. thanks!
Sung is an awesome fragrance. It lasts 8-10 hours.
Have you tried Bois De Portugal Matt, what do you think of it?
Great barbershop list Matt, loved watching this! Big fan of the Sung too👌there's a few in there that are on my wanted list😜
Tabac EDC and Canoe would probably be up there as some of my favourite cheapie(but excellent) barbershop frags I have.

I haven't but I've always wanted to try it. I need to give it a go! and if it's like Old Spice and Pinaud then I certainly want to try it ☺ thanks for watching! ☺

Glad to be here! can you review kouros by ysl?
Nice video, but where's Kouros?
TheRealUnrealForReal I wanted to add in some scents which were sort of under the radar! Kouros of course is the king 😉
fragrancematt. You're right.. I'm a woman; I have it. Just to spray on my bed linnen now and then. I think it's very masculine and, indeed, quite 'barbery'😆
TheRealUnrealForReal Haha I have to agree it is! it's one of my favorates for the colder weather! a real classic! thanks for watching btw! ☺
Chanel Pour Monsuer and YSL Rive Gauche are the kings of barbershop scents
subscribing right now...looking forward to more videos!
Thank you so much Joseph! If you like older scents I'm going to be reviewing one soon! ☺ welcome to my channel!
i really want worth ! hard to find over here !

hi Matt great video as all ways Jovan musk that brings back memories is there any chance you could do a video on applying fragrances that would be great and interesting cheers kev 👍

I saw a review you did on Quorum back in 2014, you mention you would not wear it for any occasion because it is so dated. Do you feel the same way about it belonging to another century? BTW, you do some very great fragrant reviews.

Just few days ago i asked on "The fragrance guru group " about barber shop fragrances :)
Ah awesome did you get the answer you needed? ☺
amazing list like always
Thank you very much I appreciate that ☺ take care!

Creed Green Irish Tweed kicked off the craze, not CoolWater. Olivier Creed is the creator of both of these scents, and CoolWater is a cheap clone of the much more expensive, much better smelling GIT.
Neither Green Irish Tweed nor Cool Water are classic fougeres, and neither are "barbershop" scents in my opinion.
Hey what is that classical song at the beginning is it Prokofiev
It's beautiful isn't it? It's Morning Mood by Edvard Grieg ☺ I grew up with this song 😅 thank you mate!
It's 'The Peggle Introduction' by Pop Cap Games. I was the best player in the world at this game on the Xbox 360 :) ruclips.net/video/Dzx1ZIIiwtE/видео.html
