    *I have a Mclane Edger that's identical to yours and I'm unable to locate an air cleaner filter for it anywhere - The shape is very unusual*

    Real good content and very informative, I have power trim 2 h p 109 cc was working good , last time made squealing noise upon staring at recoil housing, it shut off and will not start again , tried cleaning carb, checked spark is good , fresh gas sounds like it wants to start but does not, has compression, I tried looking for new carb, can’t find same kind, carb has a single fuel line into fuel tank, newer carbs come with feed tube and return tube, it won’t fit on old fuel tank of power trim model 100 , any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks a million.

    i have an old McLane similar to this one except on mine the housing is prevented from being removed by the position of the motor on the trolley. The yellow bar between the side wheels is in the way of getting the housing off --- twisting, pressure ... nothing works. I had to loosen/remove the four bolts on the bottom of the motor that mounts the motor to the trolley and pry the motor up about 3/4" before the housing would clear.

    Hank, thanks for the video. The spring came unwound on my old mcclane reel mower and i couldn't have gotten back together w/o this video. Do you recommend a parts source for these antiques? I wan't to keep mine going but it's from the 70's at least. Needing to rebuild carb and replace a couple springs and cables. Thanks in advance

      Check the model number on the side of the recoil, you will use that to determine part numbers, youll have to good it but usually I get my parts from partstree.com or ereplacementparts.com

    Thanks, that's the same as mine. How long was the rope you used in the end please.

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  6 лет назад +1

      6 feet or so. You can cut it longer then cut it down to size just make sure to hold onto the rope when doing so.

    I got one of these motors recently with absolutely zero compression, it worth looking into? If not, what's the general parts value on it because I would sell the gas tank, carb and other assemblies

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  7 лет назад +1

      It could be a bad valve or the head gasket is blown, you can pull the head with ease on them, you will also be able to see inside the cylinder as well

    i have a similar tiller......in my case however the pull cord recoils very very slowly as through it doesn't have enough strength ......when i remove the 3 bolts of the pull cord assembly unit off the tiller to test the pull cord I find that the cord does recoil easily and quickly as shown on your video......when I reattach the assembly unit onto the side of the tiller the cord once again will not recoil .....any thoughts as to the issue and the possible necessary repair

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  6 лет назад +2

      Yea you have to take the ratchet mechanism off that’s the part the recoil goes on to. They can be a pain but it needs to be oiled and cleaned. I know I’ve done vids on it but can’t remember which ones it’s in. Put how to service Briggs ratchet starter and it should come up with another vid on how to do it.

    You don't melt the knots?

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  7 лет назад +2

      Never had a need to that's what the extra quarter inch of rope is for.

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  7 лет назад +2

      Plus if you melt the knot you're not getting it into the recoil hole...

    Which starter rope do you buy online. Walmart has a poly/nylon braided one 40' for $1.50. www.walmart.com/ip/1-8-x-40-Nylon-Diamond-Braided-Rope/54001998. Wonder if it's any good for starter ropes...

    • @lukemartin7029
      @lukemartin7029 7 лет назад

      Yeah I figured. Solid nylon is the way to go. Did you see air filters are pretty cheap on Walmart.com though? You could save even more if you bought them from China and could wait a month through Ebay. Which starter cord do you buy?

    • @lukemartin7029

      I think this is the better buy. www.ebay.com/itm/140896307660?ul_noapp=true
