Have you seen the arosa? It's the same car from VW sister company. But looked way better at the front end, other than that they were identical untill you see the interior which I think was also better in the arosa. The lupo looked very VW inside and the arosa looked very Audi and that was crazy because Audi had never and still has never made a car this small but seat chose to use Audi parts to separate itself from the lupo to the driver and not just the onlooker.
This is a cool car, but the struggle with the shifter needs to be adressed! Put in stiffer / polybush engine and gearbox mounts / bushings, this wil 100% increase your shifting and makes the shifting more accurate when flooring it. My MX5 turbo also struggled with this problem and stiffer mounts fixed it right away.

This car and in particularly the arosa will always be special to me. The lupo looked a little dumb and soft but the arosa had a mean face for a little car and the TDI lump with a remap and a few other mods was a great car to drive on the back roads even surprised a few cars on the a roads passing guys that over took me 30 seconds ago when I was just cruising 🤣🤣🤣 that 1.6 worked great In the lupo but getting real power was pricey compared to its TDI cousin.
The 1.8t's can take big power stock - the main thing is putting a larger turbo on, get the torque spike higher up the rpm's. The K03/K04's deliver the torque too soon, combined with an iffy coil pack the rods bend quick.

Maybe it is not the gearbox per se that causes the misses in shifting. I don't know the setup on the Lupo & I am no mechanic, so my terminology might be wrong, but on my car ( modified Toyota Etios (south africa)) it is due the 'twist' of the gearbox/engine when power is apllied & shifting, so a stiffer engine/gearbox mounting situated at the bottom, solved the problem. We had to reduce the flex in the rubber mounting by adding polyurethane (I think!) into the gaps of rubber molding at a specialist shop...
Am sure i can get on that board . Engine being rebuilt now rare car charade gtti . 993cc turbo 3 cylinder. 1989 . I got alot of work to do . Power to weight makes a massive diffrence
I like these lil pocket rocket videos, pocket rocket is the way to go. Love my Colt CZT and drive that more than my Rs6, Vr6 and the bims. This Lupo is hard
I got the same shifting problem, i's caused by putting a light weight single mass flywheel on 02m and 02q gearboxes.Put in a dual mass and a short shifter, you could improve it with putting a spacer behind the primary input shaft (it's behind that round seal on the back of the transmission, you can see it if you turn the left hand wheel to the outside)i needed to dothat to be able to somewhat properly shift the car and now i still have a rough 1-2nd shift but it's drivable for the moment.Lovely little gti btw was looking these up a while ago.👍✌️👉
I helped few mate do pretty much same build about 10years ago in a black gti that meet a rough ending shortly after it was sold was scary fast at 290bhp so I bet this is even more nuts
