Thanks John, as a retired audio/video and automation representative for companies worldwide I have gave up on my analog turntable due to being handicapped and album handling was extremely difficult. I have learned a wealth of knowledge about digital streaming from your experiences and very pleased now using a Bluesound Node and Oppo 203 feeding an RME ADI-2 dac/headphone amp connected to my Willsenton R8 integrated tube amp. So simple to control from my tablet and sounds fantastic using Tidal. You taught this old dog the best way to listen to my music easily. PS: I will be subscribing to Roon soon because of your past videos about it's benefits as well. Really love your passion and approach to all of this emerging technology! Cheers 🍻 👏
We are truly in the golden age of hifi. Computer aided speaker design, room correction, streaming, advance in dacs and class d amp design have made great sound more affordable for the masses. I think a lot of old school audiophiles, I am one by the way, just dont won't to admit how close the gap is between high end gear and what was considered mid tier products.
Time are changing quickly in HiFi. It’s an exciting era where the rules are changing. I am having to challenge slot of my long held knowledge about how a system can be built to achieve ‘HiFi’. Many more options. I love a mix of future fi and an old school turntable as this allows the benefits of future fi but still allows the inner tweaking demon a lot of fun. Turntables have so many upgrade options and take them well, you can really improve the sound quite significantly.
Very informative generally, beyond the Concept 30 title. And thank you for the recently introduced subtle bass 'rumble' audio on your transitions. I've used them to fine tune the sub on my 2.1 audio.
Dear John, I find you are a thoughtful, articulate reviewer. I appreciate the care, consideration, and time that you descriptively share with us viewers. Music selections, sources, audio components, comparisons, framework (setting the stage, room designs, music genres)..that what you are ultimately providing is thinly disguised knowledge. Knowledge is power that your viewers can use in making purchase considerations. I like your "this is how we get here" approach. A warm thank you!
I love these vids and it feels like your output has increased without a downside of quality reduction. We should all aspire to find out our flavor of hifi ice cream. Funny enough, I dislike salted caramel ice cream but you said that’s the Sonus Faber flavor and I fell in love with their sound!
Great video as always , thanks to your very considered work I’m now the happy owner of a nad m10 v2 , kef ls50 meta and kef kc62 sub , couldn’t be happier !!! Great to see Barry Adamson get a mention too , keep up the wonderful work you do
The "sound" i like is the sound of the first pair of speakers i bought in 1965. They were Goodmans Axiom 201, 12 inch, 15W 15 ohm 30 to 15,000 HZ full range drivers. My next pair of speakers in 1968 had 3 drivers. Power handling increased to 45W ,16ohm and a more extended frequency range. At first, i really liked the sound but after some time i started to hear a "metalic" sheen to the music. It wasn't until 1984 that i found a pair that came very close to my original speakers of 1965.
🤗👍THANKS FOR THE SHOUT OUT.. AND WE TRY TO POSITIVE AND ENCOURAGE EVERYONE…AND WE TRY ALL KINDS OF MUSIC 🎶 AND WE HAVE LEARNED ALOT FROM EVERYONE…. Thanks for explaining the ad breaks …necessary for the budget 😁 NAP … so I would say this video is like vanilla bean (A PREMIUM ) flavor 😊, and glad you are doing okay without caffeine 🤗👍💚💚💚
John, not an old man, and you have helped me so much as a beginner trying to traverse the audiophile landscape. I really enjoyed your wireless IEM reviews as well as all your headphone reviews. Keep it up 👍🏻
Great video John! I also usually drink Decaf, but if you look into it, Decaf still contains caffeine, about 40% of regular coffee. Well at least here in the states. You are right about flavors in equiptment, I switch between Magnepan LRS and Klipsch Hersey IV’s with tube and SS amps, the pre is a McIntosh. I also play CD,vinyl, and stream. My most favorite is Hersey’s + Carver Crimson 275 tube + vinyl + REL Tzero subs. Oh I also. Switch between an iFi Zen phono preamp and the McIntosh built in Phono preamp. Have a fantastic rest of 2022 and beyond!
I found the remarks about coffee disturbing since I might also quit coffee in the future. Really enjoy coffee very much, but I'm afraid John is right about it. What I gather from a quick Google search, most caffeine is gone from decaf. Problem is it is not proper good tasting coffee.
I'm one that doesn't see adverts, but I think that your inserted ad break is a great idea. Other creators should implement something similar for those not on Premium.
Glad you explained about the ad break there. I have youtube premium, and all this time I've thought the ad itself was the two second b-roll of speaker cables
RUclips Premium is the only way to watch RUclips. It comes free with RUclips Music. Your ad breaks are no issue at all. There’s some great organic, Swiss water processed decaf coffee beans out there. It’s all I drink and did wonders for me too. There’s lots to be said for giving up caffeine but to each their own. Like with audio, respect others likes and dislikes. Looks like you live in a new and very cool apartment building and keep it very tidy. Very nice!!
Hey John - its funny, I was thinking about the "ad break" thing a few weeks ago. I wish others would do it your way! You should trade mark the idea $$$$! The devil is in the details, and you seem to care and really pay attention. Alway thoughtful commentary. Thank you.
Not only great overview of comments on the last vid, but some great "peal the onion" perspectives on the extended aspects of what this audiophile pursuit can mean. John, just love your open-ended approach in these afterthought returns 🙏😊
It's all a 'rocky road' for me! My room is probably too big for the Concept 30's. I currently have a 'vintage' pair of Acoustic Energy AE2's. Originally purchased in 1993 when I lived in the UK. Cheers, John. Love your view on sound and music. You've introduced me to some great new artists. My room is 4 X 6.5 meters
I appreciate the little ad animation and dedicated timing of the ad slot. Unfortunately a lot of channels appear to do just the opposite and that does reflect bad on the content indeed.
I love your videos, as you understand that it's not just about sound, but how it works, what it looks like and what it feels like. I've gone through a few iterations of separates, but now have a Powernode + Concept 20 + a Rega P1. I love it apart from how to change speed on the Rega - which I know irks you too. Loathed to upgrade as kids got it for a birthday.
Kudos to the decaf lifestyle. Did the same myself. Still gotta sell my espresso machine that sits dormant. I recently added magnesium glycinate to my mornings and wow my refreshment after rest is completely wonderful. I'm so pleased you added comments to your videos. To me it was a missing link that makes them more interactive and enjoyable. 🙏
My favourite ice cream is Pistachio Kulfi. It’s thick/full-bodied and not too sweet. Which is exactly how I like music to sound - full-bodied with smooth highs.
You know what they say, "Death before Decaf" but if it gets you to sleep better and make more videos, then good on you! Love the channel and the videos. Not a Patreon so miss out on the playlists.
Yes John. I love these follow ups. Proper engagement and would add that the "Ad Break" section takes you into the top tier of thoughtful presentation - I think it's great. Any thoughts on what Roon are up to on Tuesday next? I know you're not in the know but I would welcome some wild and irresponsible rumour mongering!
John I totally relate !life long coffee drinker, was at 3 a day minimum now down to one in the morning and it stops there. ! Turmeric latte is my substitute, my body and mind are thanking me !
After many years hunting for big sound in "small" rooms i have gone away from Floorstanders.. The sound you get from good standmounts and a sub or two is far superior :) And same can be said about amplifiers.. from big Jeff Rowlands with 2x400w down to more sensible 2x50w.. A part of that choice was your podcast episode about how much or how little watt's we actually use :)
It’s very interesting to follow you. Especially I fancy your approach against minimalistic gears like bookshelf speakers in combination with small subwoofers, and all in one systems like Bluesound Powernode, Naim Uniti Atom and similar systems. There are some interesting speakers from Arendal Sound like Arendal 1961 bookshelf speakers that I hope you will consider to make a review on.
John Darko, man of the ages. A Brit living in the nether regions of acoustic prisms…..exploring the sonic realms and yet missing his homeland. Sir, make a video of how you got into audio and music. We’d love to hear…
The best decaf coffee I’ve had is from Watchhouse coffee! It’s really fruity and almost fermented if you like that. You wouldn’t know it’s not got caffeine 👍🏻
Hi John, I know this is off topic but how did you get through your mornings without caffeine when you started going decaf? Do you have any tricks? I've tried going decaf but I found it too hard and had to take naps by 3pm which is a no-no when I'm at work. Thanks again for your highly enjoyable videos and your podcasts.
❤I love you with or without caffeine I love you taking the time to talk about comments because I leave quite a few of them maybe one day it will be mine😮
Dear John. That is great that giving up coffein has a good influence on your sleep. That proofs my experience with Placebo and Noncebo effects. Actually decaf has the same effect, than “normal” coffee. 😉 this tells you, your friendly Ph.D. In my case Endocrinologist. Never mind. It is late and I am enjoying your videos.
Regarding the subwoofer, while i don't have experience with them, REL acoustics only makes subwoofers so I'm guessing they work with other manufacturers
haha, just before you discussed the last posting on double espresso I had the impression you’d be somewhat sleepy and comfortably slowed down 😂 - I (who had too short a night’s sleep myself) will do/have a double espresso in a bit and think about it all. then. tx for your great work
The Darko decaf roast suits you well and perhaps on an audiophile palate flavor & complexity level, the taste and finish are a bit more laid back and warm while increasingly being transparent and resolute in the floral notes. As for this Americano, always entertained and with a take away of greater insight and curiosity.
As ever, another good video, John - thank you. I’ve noticed this in several of your videos, and meant to comment before: have you tried connecting your speaker cables diagonally across the inputs when you have more than two binding posts? I swear I can hear a difference on my PMC DB1i when connected like this, but would be interested to hear your (and others’) thoughts/experience
Interesting comments and response from John. I can’t help but thinking the music system I most appreciate are not limited to presenting one single flavour but instead offer delicious vanilla or dark chocolate, depending on the music you’re playing. A good system lets you discover more from what the creators put in the recording, be it microdynamic detail, the force of a bass line, the power of a trumpet and an intimate or powerfull voice.
@@REX4340 The impression I have is that John is a good listner as he often describes perceived differences in sound presentation of the various setups and components quite well. It’s just my thoughts about the analogy of what a person’s favourite ice cream flavour is, that this might not apply anymore when you discover that besides your favourite flavour other flavours can be just as enoyable…don’t limit yourself to a single flavour but explore others ;-)
Given up Caffeine.... Unsubscribed 😁 Really enjoying the new style of feedback videos to go with the reviews and other videos. Keep up the good work. As a RUclips premium subscriber I like the Add break holder as it shows me how many adds I get to skip
I rarely drink coffee either but I like tea especially black like Assam or Yunnan but can’t drink it after mid afternoon and after the morning it’s watered down. My wife and I live on a couple qts of Hagan Daz coffee ice per week though.
Hi John, how much or how many cups of caffeinated coffee and/or espresso were you drinking daily prior to your conversion away from caffeine? Just curious. Also, have you found good brands of decaf coffee or espresso that you can recommend? Thanks from Chicago!
Subwoofers are ok you don't need the same brand, you need two if the crossover is above 50hz. I find they drag the bass transient speed down with bookshelf speakers but that's just me it seems, I recommend to just combine the cash and get better speakers than a 2.1 setup.
i just want to hear and experience whats actually on the vinyl ,ive got close enough lately with some very nice not snobbery gear some new some vintage ,my system just puts it all on the plate ,it can exite it makes my feet tap it makes me cry it makes me sad it makes me happy it makes me buy vinyl ,i think thats all a system should really do...
As for your caffeine break. There is no such thing as a purist is there? Since we all have different tastes, there is no one sound or one "perfect" anything really. I would vote for feeling better. Thank you for the video, I am going to try the 3050i as a start.
I appreciate the “ad breaks,” as someone who is not currently subscribed to RUclips Premium. However, one suggestion, if I may: instead of the “zaps,” maybe there could be a bit of music instead? I think your musical interludes in your videos are always pretty fantastic, and a more bite-sized version of them could be a little more palatable for those who have Premium. Just a thought, keep up the great work!
John God help us if you take up Yoga then if caffeine free makes you more interactive. BTW I thought the adbreak was wen you took us aside from the “meat” of your videos to discuss the music or a secondary topic. AND BTW+ i’m on youtube premium from Google Music maybe you should too coz then you get RUclips music (member 10+yrs) for free(sic) and could add that musical string to your streaming bow. The way that google’s merging the music into RUclips is becoming quite interesting. I can’t leave now coz the RUclips ads would drive me crazy.

"Screw you"?? I just love this kind of irreverence!! How about some light for classical or jazz listeners in the room especially in this classe of speakers? Keep up your great work!
this comment is purely about coffee. no food:audio analogies. did your previous caffeinated coffee also include additives (creams/sugars/etc.)? or are you are you a black magic water guy (like myself)? what are you putting in your decaf now?
I gave up coffee many years ago and started on the bio hacking journey. Coffee gave me anxiety and worse sleep. I can highly recommend an Oura ring for sleep tracking and other health benefits. As always thank you ever so much for listening to the community. ❤
Hi John. I used to watch your videos a few years ago, but found them to be way above my knowledge base. They were a bit too high brow and dry for me to enjoy and so I unsubscribed. Recently though I seen you had a video out and thought I would have a look (as I liked your style etc, I just wasn’t getting anything from the content at that time). I have to say I really enjoyed the new content and comments, with more budget friendly gear for music lovers ( if not audiophiles.. I hate that term). 🥴 Keep on mixing it up, as I think you look like you are enjoying yourself and I for one will stay subscribed. 🤘⭐️🤘
Goodsound meant you set it the sound gain on the sub at a certain speaker volume and it's all good and after that you turn the volume up or down on the speaker amp and it's not right anymore even if the speaker amp also adjusts the volume on the sub. That said even passive towers have this issue for a different reason, depending how loud they are the bass response also changes.
PS: I assure the ad animation does not improve things for anyone, it's just more wasted time. Just leave 1s bigger gap between two parts of your video and let the ad play there.
Thanks John, as a retired audio/video and automation representative for companies worldwide I have gave up on my analog turntable due to being handicapped and album handling was extremely difficult. Dear John,
I find you are a thoughtful, articulate reviewer. I appreciate the care, consideration, and time that you descriptively share with us viewers. Music selections, sources, audio components, comparisons, framework (setting the stage, room designs, music genres)..that what you are ultimately providing is thinly disguised knowledge. I love your approach. I'm not on the market for anything like these speakers, but I always learn lots from you.
I wanted to say how much I appreciate the extra effort of the ad breaks.
That "wysiwyg" got me jumping of my chair 😂 amazing video as always John! Discovered your channel some days ago and I´m hooked!
I like the addition of "Ad Break". That makes your videos much, much more enjoyable to watch. 👍

Yep. Room correction with subs is a revelation.

Bravo Sir. Loving your recent output
I’m loving these second view videos, such a great idea
I like French vanilla best. Maybe I will go listen to some Focal speakers.
Wow no caffeine that is a struggle for me 😂
Would anyone share more opinions on which is the ice cream linked to Sonus Faber lumina II?
Chunky Monkey Ice Cream or Vanilla, but a rich French Vanilla with tasty bits of caramel.
I need a little caffeine for those long drives in the car. I would literally fall asleep at the wheel without it.
I noticed you being more relaxed since half a year in you’re video’s. I thought you where a bit snobby before that 🤭
I like these comments videos 👍
I like the way you calming talk in your youtube reviews. It's kinda de-stressing..... But I am not ready to give up coffee, sorry... no :p
I can’t leave now coz the RUclips ads would drive me crazy.
any chance reviewing monitor audio gold 200
i realised why is cheeky the sound and no lights?......
The problem is, no matter what my favorite flavor is, I don't want to only have that forever.

I really hope you'll do a patreon giveaway of the sonus Faber.
Happy Oktoberfest Germany and enjoy your grape rub down and several days of grape consumption
I smeared icecream all over my walls but its done nothing to improve the sound?
Keep on mixing it up, as I think you look like you are enjoying yourself and I for one will stay subscribed.
I can buy active Neumann or Genelec for this amount.I just don't get it...
