Absolutely stoked about this! We first got Nubian goats (disbudded) several months ago. We just had our first kidding. We fell in love with each other and have every intention to free-range, even fence-free. How would milk goats do on a similar system? Could they be trained to come in time for milking? Is it risky to do this with dusbudded goats? What might be the concerns with mixing disbudded goats with horned ones?
That’s awesome congratulations! They can definitely be trained to come in for milking if you feed them where you plan to milk and keep to a schedule. Goats have amazing internal clocks 😁 I’d say the biggest concern with mixing disbudded goats with horned goats would be with bucks. A disbudded buck would be at a big disadvantage during sparring against a horned buck but with the does I haven’t noticed much of an issue with mixing them :) the does are much gentler nd more lenient when it comes to headbutting
Unfortunately, I have a neighbor with a horse and it's a big goat, lol. There's lots of mountain laurel and poke weed, etc..
How do you free range your buck and your doe?
Check out House of Bacchus. They have an anti mating apron. You put it on the buck and it keeps them from mating. When you want mating take it off. It also keeps them from getting urine scald.

Yes the boys smell pretty bad unfortunately 😂 our lead buck smells the worst but occasionally we give him a bath every now and then to minimize the smell

No we have 3 bucks right now and none of them headbutt the house or the car. The most they do is rub against them to itch their backs 😂
Are The bucks are nice to the doe?
Yes, the bucks are awesome with the does. They’re very respectful of them and they have very strong bonds with each other :)

@@alexgutierrez3477 No, we haven’t had any problems with inbreeding. We have one Buck related to the girls and one Buck not related. The non-related Buck is the dominant Buck in the herd so he breeds the does whereas the non-dominant Buck does not breed the females and instead hangs back. When the females are ready to breed in the fall we separate the related Buck for a couple weeks just to be on the safe side. Then after breeding is complete the herd is United again but we’ve never had any issues with the one Buck showing any interest breeding his mother or sister. They have a very complicated and detailed herd structure that keeps everything going smoothly and in order :) it also helps that the Buck that is related to the two does has a more laid back, submissive temperament so he understands the lead Buck holds the right to breed in the herd. I hope that made sense lol, if not I can try to clarify
