It pains me to see Da'nelle explaining guiltily why she is making the decisions she is about the animals, she loves and cares for everyday, in every other video. You don't need to do it, you don't owe that to anybody! We are happy and honored that you've welcomed us in your life. None of your viewers, even the judgy ones, have a claim over your actions. YOU KNOW BEST! Lots of love!
You're so sweet, thank you! I know some people get attached and have their favorites so I want to recognize that, but I still want to make decisions that I know will help move the herd forward and improve this breed:) It's always tough, I love them all so much!
Can I be 100% honest with everyone, the moment Honey rejected cricket I knew she'd get cut because as cute as she is and her babies are, Danelle has a goal... And I fully agree 😁💯!
@@kimberlyearly8918can’t underestimate rats. Their teeth are very strong and sharp, not a lot they can’t chew through. Thick plastic won’t stop them if they really want to get in there! my other concert was the vent above the door. If the shed has enough grip on the sides, or close to objects in which they could jump up onto and jump from, the rats will find a way in through there also!
Yes, rats can chew thru just about anything. Being raised on a farm, I've seen them chew thru metal garbage cans and even chew thru concrete. It took them a little while but they did it. So plastic and wood are a breeze to them.
Me: "DON'T MAKE ME CRY!" I knew who that shadow box was for, and just lost it. Goodbye Tilly, you were an incredibly sweet goat and I so loved seeing you on this incredibly amazing channel..where I learned so much more about goats than I ever knew before. I've owned goats, but this channel has just truly enlightened me.
If you still have a rat issue after this, another youtuber ended up getting metal bins for his pig feed and that seemed to work. We all miss Tilly so much, happy thoughts to you guys💜
Your decisions are always based on what’s best for the herd and what’s best for each goat. I admire your dedication to all these wonderful goats. These farm animals are so lucky to have you, Kevin and your children to love and care for them. ❤️🐐
Even though I'm not able to have goats, I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching how it's done. Goats are fascinating animals. Thank you for sharing your experiences, challenges, joys and sorrows with us. 🤗
Danelle I just want to say, you are such a kind and caring person…I have learned so much from you about goats and cooking, my heart hurts with you for Tilly and for being an empty nester!! It’s so hard I know!! Please keep making videos!!! I love watching goats!!! 😊
Very good decision to rehome Honey, she's a sweet goat but not breeding quality and thats okay! She will absolutely trive in a pet home ♡♡ And you've got Cricket to keep Tilly's line going and hopefully that little feisty goat will surprise us all!!
A tip for rats as someone who owns pet rats (wild rats are different). Rats have a bite force of an 8 and a diamond is a 10 so they can bite through plastic. If you have issues with them getting through the plastic to get to your feeders because rats are determined I would go for the metal storage.
Oh my gosh, I also had a rat in my apartment for the first time this spring!!! I thought , this could be a mouse, got a mouse motel and then I saw the rat on the cameras...HE WAS HUGE. THicc boi. So I used the same traps you have, and caught him coming in through a hole behind the dishwasher! He now lives like 10 miles away at a lake.
Figure out where the burrow is. Usually 5 feet or so from food source. When you know the rats are in the burrow put a big block of dry ice on the entrance. The carbon dioxide will drift down into the burrow… night night!
The shadow box for Tilly is such a sweet idea! Every time one of our chickens has passed since I was a kid I’d save one of their feathers - at this point I have a whole bag of them practically haha I’d love to use them in a shadow box someday to be able to appreciate them properly!
Yay Chunk! Looking forward to seeing his little babies. I am sure he will be a gorgeous buck. It seems like the Winona’s vocal exercises are helping her produce more. Just get cricket some lessons and she should be great!
The Patiowell shed looks great,,,however it's sadly not rat proof. Rats can chew through cement blocks...they can certainly chew through a plastic panel...It might help to run a little hardware cloth around the outside bottom of the shed. Sure looks nice though. The babies are sure looking nice!
Love the shadow box for Tilly ❤️. Best of luck to all the bucklings in their new homes. Love watching all the babies eating with their tails wagging 🥰🎂
Get an old chest tight freezer to put your feed in it. It keeps the mice and rats out. You could get the ones that don’t work anymore. I’m sure you could pick them up for nothing around places that have appliances for sale.
Chunk looks like a great little buckling. Such good form. I love the way you breed with such care and respect for improving the breed for future goaters. 💜
Can you do a tier list of all the milking does, current and best. I would love to see broken down comparison and how each line has improved through the generations. Dont have any goats of my own but plan to changed that once we move to a larger space. Been living my dream of having a small homestead watching your videos. Been watching since before Tilly came to the farm. Love y'all and miss her and all your past goats
There really not about who best since their good in their own way and people may have different opinion. But from my personal opinion this is what I be ranking for the milking does (Daphne, Reba, River, Wynonna, Honey) with reason as well♥ 1. Daphne, Daphne have very good dairy strength, nice general appearance and good attachment/mammary system but it could use a bit more side attachment. But her biggest overall strength is her production very dairy goat. 2. River, River have very good thing going for her including great general appearance with long body and wide rump, level topline, perfect rear leg angulation and her biggest strength, her impressive mammary system with very wide attachment. But the downside is that she need to be more mature and grow bigger, she kind of small in stature. 3. Reba and Wynonna, I have a hard time placing these two because their good in their own way. Both Reba and Wynonna have perfect rear leg angulation, strong upright pasterns and good body depth. But Reba have is wider and have better attachment than Wynonna, but the downside is that she need have a more level rump and tight shoulders. The good thing about Wynonna is that she have a leveled topline, long bodied, tight shoulder and very high milk production for her age but the downside is that she have pretty weak attachment, its not bad but it just could use more side attachment. 4. Honey, Honey have great general appearance with long body and wide rump, she also have good body depth and other characteristic for general appearance. But her ultimate weakness is her udder, I must say she definitely an improvement on Tilly her dam. Although her udder is soft and have pretty good attachment - - she has wide spread apart teats and have very low production. I hope this give you a better insight on the doe, but just remember this is just my opinion!😁
You clipping some of Tilly’s beard is like us in the horse world. We keep their tail ♥️ I will admit I couldn’t watch the complilation you made (yet) I would have been bawling to hard. But your goats are so loved by your family, and Tilly was so loved, not just by your family, but us here on RUclips. I just had my first kids born at my place, and I of course thought of your kidding videos and I even bought you goat course. Love your family and your farm ❤❤
I just love these talks where we get to watch you milk up close and just hear you talk about all the things. I love it! I feel like I’m sitting and listening to my mom or my grandma. just give me all the info. Keep it coming! ❤
If it was my herd, I would have also cut Honey. The low production, difficulty keeping her in condition instead of over conditioned and the rejection of her baby, combined with the limited space... It makes sense to cut her. If you had more space and time giving her a second chance and hoping for another doeling you cod play with would make sense, but you don't have that space (or time lol). Considering you're making hard choices while you're still grieving shows strength of character and how dedicated you are to your goals.
Cats are smart. Your cat has figured out making that sad sound gets him/her what they want.. My dog has the big sad eyes. Usually seen before, during and after a bath. Also when we have to leave the dog park. Honestly I can't even look at her because that face makes me want to give her anything she wants. 😂😂
Honey is wonderful but I think you made the best decision. Honey was the best of all the Tilly does you raised! Her udder was a definite improvement over her mother and sisters! I bet Cricket, with Lancelot's genes she will be another step forward! 🥰
Always sad to see the babies go off to their new homes, but you've got some exciting new genetics to follow up on! Looking forward to seeing the Tilly line continue! ❤🌼
I'm very sorry for your loss of Tilly. I love your channel and whenever I have a bad day I love watching your animals and how much you love them and take care of them.
Goodbye Chugs, and wish him well in Texas. Tilly was a lovely girl and her plaque is so nice. ❤️Lots of nice eggs. I hate rats also. A nice shed, that Keven built or put together. That should help with your problem. 👍. Do you know what makes Winona yell? Reba has a nice udder, but I notice a small difference. River has the best udder yet. She did well. Daphne ‘s udder look ok and looks well. I love those wagging tales when the babies eat.❤️🥰
What we use for grain storage is a box floor freezer, ..got it free at the county dump..all clean in side, just a few scratches on the out side. But white metal spray paint took care of that...have had that for 16 yrs..during summer season I place a Terry towel inside the freezer and place the top of the towel on the rim where the lid comes down to close it up..this way any humidity that gets in the box will be absorbed by the towel..and not on the grain bags, or the grain itself...
You can still make more room by using large metal galvanized cans with lids and put the feed in the cans and stack them on one side of the shed and then the dogs can have dog beds on the other side.
I just finished up a shadow box for my Levi who passed on March 6th. It’s a great way to remember our special babies! Thinking of you all as you navigate a new life without sweet Tilly! All the babies are growing so big so fast! We also have a Wynonna but her name is Daisy…lol! She screams all the time…no matter what is going on! Gotta love those screamers! We had a rat problem last summer and it seriously took us almost three months to finally get rid of them! We finally figured out that our neighbor had brought in an old clunker to work on and apparently they brought them with it. And of course, having goats and chickens (aka feed) they all decided to migrate to our house…and stayed. UKKKK! I HATE RATS! Now that we know how rot get rid of them, we hopefully won’t have an issue with them anymore! Good luck catching your and keeping them away! I love watching all the sweet, Goodness you make in the kitchen too! Gives me great ideas to try out here at our homestead! Thanks for sharing!!!😊
Hey Danelle, me and my daughters have watched your channel for over 5 years now and we were so so sad to hear about tilly. I know your heart must be hurting, i just wanted to send you some love. From all of us in Wiltshire, England ❤
I rlly enjoy seeing your viedos, they no matter what bring me alot of joy. Idk how long I have Been following you, mabye a bit more than 3 years ? Also feels so weird for me that Tilly is not around anymore, she was the sweetest and even tho we only sometimes seen her little forgeteble head I losed tears thinking about her being gone already, the good are taken to soon 💔 no goat can replace her, but she will always be in good memories and atleast be alife in your past viedos
Bye-bye little boy ,make lots of nice babies😘. When do you go to your summer digs? Yummy curd,I didn't know it was so easy😊. Cool Shed,im gonna look into them. Happy Easter Happy Spring, happy, happy everything✝️🐦🌷🌺. JO JO IN VT 💞
You are making wonderful decisions ❤ keep up the great work, by the way: my family raised miniature goats back in late seventies through eighties! My parents gave up on our farm when dad got cancer, but it was great while it lasted.
Do you think it would be a good idea to check with Lavender 's new owner and see if she has better production than honey and nice udder , so you can maybe purchase a doeling out of her in the future to compare with Cricket? Or even keep dubs with LOL for that matter so you can have more options for yhe Tilly line?
Rats aren’t gross! I know they can be a nuisance but they aren’t nasty! They are such misunderstood animals. Thank you so much for using humane traps though! No poison and no sticky traps ever!
I’m so grateful I grew up knowing pet rats/snakes and lizards. Pretty much the only thing that gets me is insects. I can appreciate rats as a pest in the farm though. I just think they are cute pests. Way better than the scorpions 😖
Shadow boxes are a really good idea! Please please please make a Tilly plushy! DaNelle, you aren't alone in hating rats, yuck. I love River's attachments.
I have pet rats and they're adorable ❤ Domestic rats and wild rats are very different. I used to hate goats! Until I randomly began watching your videos a couple years ago. 😂❤

Danelle is gonna be on her deathbed, 50 years into breeding the Tilly line and she’ll still be staying the next one will be better 😂
🤣 That's right!
Hahahah iconic 😂😂
If you're diligent, it will even be true ❤
And he's mine!!!!!! I love him so much! He's looking so good and he's growing

Do you have a instagram

I love the shadow box for Tilly! She is truly leaving a shadow behind, in all her offspring and even those who remain on the farm today
“Caspers still a puppy” meanwhile Casper a giant Walks by 😂
It's because he Is still mentally a puppy and he will be intell he is about 4
Can I be 100% honest with everyone, the moment Honey rejected cricket I knew she'd get cut because as cute as she is and her babies are, Danelle has a goal... And I fully agree 😁💯!
I think I would still store your grain inside metal drums inside that shed. Rats can chew through plastic.
They shouldn't be able to get in there. That's kinda the point of getting it.
This was my thought too!! They’re buggars with very sharp teeth!

Metal garbage cans with lids for feed storage is also a must.
Absolutely! I keep my feed in galvanized trash cans.
We use an old chest freezer that doesn't work anymore. Most of the time you can find them for free and they work really well.
Those are awesome. Never had unruly animals br able to get into it lol@@samanthah2226
Galvanized steel garbage can with lids bungee shut.
The Shadowbox for Tilly is absolutely beautiful💖
To Honor Tilly, i'm trying to breed a buckskin mare in my horse video game. I'm gonna name her Tilly.
That nice ❤
It's sad all the bucklings are gone, but so glad Chunk is going as a breeding buck! Kitty is so cute! Thanks for posting!
The neighbors being sad you let some of the quieter goats go, but kept Wynona. LOL!!!
She's a musical prodigy, singing the song of her people like a prima donna on the opera stage
Gosh I know! I make sure to get out there before they lose it like I am haha
I thought that too 😂😂😂 except her neighbors love her

I just wish you a healthy life. It's so hard doing all that cleaning afterwards. You know how my back hurts after doing all this stuff.

You do such a good job of explaining things. About the goats and what goes
along with raising them.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🌻

Shadow boxes are a really good idea! Please please please make a Tilly plushy! DaNelle, you aren't alone in hating rats, yuck. I love River's attachments.
You guys should definitely get another one of those sheds for Salem and Casper. Put a little doggy door in it, too ❤❤
I have pet rats and they're adorable ❤ Domestic rats and wild rats are very different.
I used to hate goats! Until I randomly began watching your videos a couple years ago. 😂❤
I enjoyed watching this video so much so lovely!!
🥹🥰🥺… we will all miss Tilly! What a sweetheart! ❣️
I love love love your videos. I am getting my first 2 NDG's and I'm terrified I'll do something wrong. You help me feel like I can do it. Thank you ❤
Where did all the cats go? Are the rats too big for cats?
I'm pretty sure most of them ran away since they have feral nature. They have one cat left pepper pumpkin.
The shadow box is so beautiful! Very touching ❤
I can’t wait for our first kidding, out first doe is due in less then two weeks:]
Fingers crossed for a healthy, uneventful delivery!
Ahh that's so exciting!!
Plant lots of lilac and mint all around new shed. That will mask the smell of the feed and rants and mice don't like the smell either
IlenesRascals Sycamore Quinn is a great buck to improve strength 💪
Loved this video!!
this took me awhile to watch all the way threw. i still remember when you brought her home. and her first kidding.
How about putting your feed in metal trash cans? It might create a little more space.
