Emery has taken Villa from 17th to 4th and beating Bayern Munich. That's on a net spend of £200 million or so. That's a real manager

Howe took Newcastle from 19th to 4th in 1 season. Also thrashed PSG not a fluke win against the run of play.
Emery has been great, but what Howe has done at Newcastle is more impressive than Emery at Villa.

Arteta 3rd really shows how weak our managerial pedigree is in the PL is right now. Remember in 2016 when we had Pep, Conte, Klopp, Poch, Wenger, Mourinho
The fact this list doesn’t include Fabian Hurzeler, Kieran McKenna, or Sean Dyche just shows how crazy good the standard of managers in this league is at the moment. Not even mention Glasner, Nuno, or Ten Hag who each have decent track records

Putting Arne Slot 4th based off a new manager bounce and a squad that isn't his? Come on... I know he did amazing things at Feyenoord too but 4th is a little crazy, haven't seen enough of him to put him any higher than around 8th imo
Especially with a squad that isn’t his, most managers would use that argument to justify their club’s underperformance. In a very short time he secured the buy-in of the players and already won over the hearts of most fan and the trust of the brass.. That’s very impressive!

Anyone criticising women's voice in men's football then listen to Nieve here who makes the most reasoned points and absolutely kills the other 3 with her arguments, quite rightly shutting down this ridiculous Arteta vs Emery debate. As for the list itself not too bad but Maresca should be nowhere near the top 10 at this moment in time - recency and big 6 bias off the scale - and Ange should not be above Howe.
Think its intereseting that the same people that says Ange should be lower is also the same people who now put Slot fourth after 7 games, while aslo being the same people that did the exact same thing when spurs where flying at the start of last season. It was almost identical to how liverpool are talked about atm. Slot might deserve it and go on to do great, but I think you should learn from your mistakes and maybe have a bit of a margin until you start putting someone fourth after 7 games.
Arne Slot inherited one of the most settled and talented squads in entire Europe, thanks to Klopp. No wonder Liverpool have looked at home under Slot. Slot's a great manager but to put him at top 5 best managers in the PL, is a long stretch rn

As a Liverpool fan, I have no idea how the managers should be ranked outside of the top 3 (Guardiola is obviously 1, Emery perhaps 2nd and then Arteta), but Arne 4th is maybe a bit too high right now. It could be right if Liverpool fights for the title with Arsenal and City until the last few rounds of the season, but we'll wait and see.

@@lukeflynn7182theres no way of knowing so early in the season. He also has had an easier job playing bottom half teams and talking over a strong Liverpool team. There's no way of knowing how he ranks compared to Maresca for example. That's why this is just a stupid debate.

Slot did it without any new signings in the squad and Maresca spent 100mil+ on signings so thats also something to think about

Nieve still offers better input than the ones tasked to make the lists. There’s definitely top 4 bias here cause the Slot sample size is not enough to just come in and place him that high
That's why they put the emphasis on the way he put his stamp on the team in a few games, which is a very difficult task in itself. There's no way he's going to lose that when he gets more matches under his belt, so the sample size in itself shows that he is an excellent manager.

@@neilfox9540 Forest game was a very difficult one, players playing in Peru a few days before, CL return a few days later. I think the players had their eyes on the Milan game, after they missed hearing the CL anthem last year and didn't want to miss it by pulling a hamstring or getting hurt by going too hard in 50/50 situations.
Of those managers below them who has experience of playing in European competitions and winning domestic titles? Only one is ETH which is unfair not to be in this list.

I think Non-Arsenal fans don't understand the job that Arteta has done at Arsenal.
Basically took Emery's team, which was one of the worst teams defensively (that Watford game) and won the FA Cup against Chelsea & Man City on the way.
He also revamped the whole culture at the club, something Emery couldn't do, gave us defensive steel and in his 2nd real season challenged City, like WTF!
Also, Slott 4th.... he's been in the PL in a minute, so how can you justify him being that high up. Like Glasner b/w Jan & May was cooking the league and now isn't even in the top 10.

Arteta took charge in December and won the FA Cup with someone elses players. Since then he's won nothing. Yes he's changed the culture but fans of other teams judge managers of top teams by how many trophies they've won.

Well what Arsenal fans don't seem to understand it that Emery has done things besides Arsenal.
All I keep hearing is how he did at Arsenal. The guy has been a manager for over 20 years at 9 different clubs.
Not to mention his first season was actually pretty good. Got themn from 63 points the season before to 70 points AND in a european final.
So he basically only had a bad 4 months at Arsenal, which people use to judge his 20+ year managerial career.
Emery revamped the culture at Almeria, Valencia, Sevilla.... Artera has only done it at one club and it hasn't even led to trophies.
(Because the FA cup was before he revamped the whole culture at the club).
Also Arsenal fans should start getting their head around the magnitude of a european trophy.
Arteta could three-peat the Premier League and he still hasn't achieved what Emery has.
If you go through Emery's career it's actually incredible what he has done at so many clubs.
He started at Lorca Deportiva which he immediately promoted to the highest division they have ever been in.
Then he went to Almeria and got them promoted aswell (to LaLiga) for the first time in the clubs history.
After that he went to Valencia. They finished 10th the season before he joined. In his 4 seasons, he finished 3rd three times.
We obviously all know what he went on to do at Sevilla. A three-peat of the Europa League. Something we will never see again.
He also improved Sevilla's position in the league. So he managed to juggle both those competitions at once.
Then he turned PSG into their best ever team. After that obviously Arsenal where he had a great first season.
Still not done, because after that he won the Europa League once again... with Villarreal this time.
Season after he had them in the Semi's of the ucl, that's further than Arsenal have come in the last 15 years.
And lastly, he transformed Aston Villa from a relegation side into a serious champions league team.
Everyone gassing Emery that was the most hideous football I've ever watched at the Emirates.. Remember we were conceding 25/30 shots a game

Emery has a profile for a club where he can take a team struggling and put them in a good position when he leaves. However he’s never really broken the door when it’s come to major honours outside of the Europa league which isn’t on the same level as the domestic leagues or the champions league.
