I covered this in my jam room with my 14 y.o. son who is learning drums. I kept turning my Mesa Studio 22 up louder to get more tone, and maxed the Reverb, while his eyes got wider and wider and he actually started to lose his shizzz. By the end, I think he clearly understood why people create rock bands....
Such an awesome song...I wish Jack would just make a CD with all his rare stuff, the Captain Beefheart covers, all The Upholsterers stuff, and maybe some live White Stripes and Raconteurs songs because thats some of the best live music in the UNIVERSE. Anytime Jack is going off it makes me cream in my pants! But I cant pay $300 or $400 dollars for those old 7" records.
makes me feel good about the stuff i'm working on. i always have to go back and listen to when people start out to make me feel positive about my own stuff
you are so right! I am in the same situation. hearing Jack white play basic chords but rocking out really inspires me. This is one of the songs that made me play guitar and I have been doing play alongs with it for 7 years now. I love it and it is my rock in a way. I love Nirvana s stuff too and I think Jack white was the rock revival that happened in the 00s.
@Thatfenderguy Wow what a story. I wasn't aware that any had ever been found. You are very VERY lucky. Just hang on to it!!! It could end up in a museum someday!!!!
This was released three years after the White Stripes formed, but had been recorded several years before they where even married. Brian and Jack just played together after work and Brian turned him on to Flat Duo Jets (anther two piece). They never actually performed, but it is where some White Stripes songs come from.
I love this! Fantastic! And because of that I spent some time trying to find the original by Jack Starr. When I did, well, I was disappointed, it's good, but just doesn't compare! They definitely improved upon it.
This song was written by Jack Starr, an outsider musician who recorded in 1960s Texas and whose recordings have been put out by Norton Records. says the sidebar.. so i think.. this is a cover..
Brian Muldoon gave Jack that White Stripes sound. They use to own an upholstery company and then formed that band. Brian feels that a bass is unnecessary. Jack played guitar, bass and drums in multiple bands, simultaneously in the late 90s. Jack is amazing!!!
If you guys are looking for other rare Jack White stuff, check out a band called The Hentchmen -album Hentchforth Five, Jack mostly playing bass, really cool 50s punk sound
@HolyDiverII757 My grandmother gave me this old couch that she'd had for a good number of years. We had set it cushion side down in our truck to get it to fit in right with some other things she had given us. My dad must have glanced at it and noticed there was a tear in the fabric underneath. So he went to look at it and found that buried up inside of the couch. Much to my grandmothers dismay, we tore off the bottom fabric to find this. :D
Shouldn't be mind blowing at all, The Black Keys didn't form until 2001 and released an album in 2002. The White Stripes formed in 1997 and released their self titled album in 1999. The Upholsterers did this the same year De Stijl was released, in 2000.
Jack didn't write it. It was written by Jack Starr (not the metal guy) in the 1950's. Get the LP called "Born Petrified" on Norton Records. Dig it and dig it deep!
@@angiemunsey363 Wow... awesome! Love your Dad's music...I bought 2 of the Norton rekkids...one for the wall (art) and one stays on my rekkid player platter! Forget Hi-Fi and Wi-Fi...I dig Jack Starr (Munsey) Lo-Fi and Sci-Fi!!! Is there a fan club for him?
I shook jack whites hand : ) not making it up either, it was the day after he was on the colbert report. he signed autographs with steve colbert and i met them both and got autographs. the autograph is now framed in my room.
This is by far Jack White's finest work. Kick ass rock & roll in it's rawest, purest form. Simple, but brilliant.
Lol what?

One of my favorite songs ever
They share an interesting amount of information on Jack's apprenticeship of Brian Muldoon in It Might Get Loud.
@Thatfenderguy Wow what a story. I wasn't aware that any had ever been found. You are very VERY lucky. Just hang on to it!!! It could end up in a museum someday!!!!

I love this! Fantastic!

For fans of the genius of Jack White,........one week post op since my fractured femur repair, good excuse to play this gem!
1:43 - why does it have to end there?!?!?!
If you guys are looking for other rare Jack White stuff, check out a band called The Hentchmen -album Hentchforth Five, Jack mostly playing bass, really cool 50s punk sound
This is definitely the predecessor of "the hardest button to button"
Perfectly foreshadows Jimmy The Exploder its so fucking weird i love it. This is real shit, cant put a label on it.
@Thatfenderguy dude its meant to be listened to. thats why its vinyl. Just listen to it
awesome!
I love white striped elephant! :D so much great content

I absolutely love The White Stripes, but I think The Upholsters beat all their songs. This has to be Jack at his most raw. Pure rock and roll.
I think this might be the perfect Jack White song.
i need this fucking song on spotify
Jack is fuking genius,thnx 4 posting, also.... TSC FTW!!!!
@rossdigitalfire WHAT???!!! Craziness!!
@Thatfenderguy Dude, Jack White prolly put it there himself! hah, that's freakin' awesome man, i'm so jealous
@Thatfenderguy You found one of them?!? You have lived out my dream. Backstory please...
I've seen this record behind the counter at Amoeba Hollywood- $800.
oh, i didn't know that. but it's still credited to him.
Shouldn't be mind blowing at all, The Black Keys didn't form until 2001 and released an album in 2002.

One kick-ass song! Fucking amazing!

Where can I download this track! I can’t find it anywhere but here.

this recording of his voice kind of reminds me of Daniel Johnston. Anyone else hear it?
@Rockon680 exactly what i thought, just go to the third man records website and you can read their statement over there
Building explosion… burning explosion… both?
My god, they were great. What ever happened to them? :P #JackWhiteIsGenius

I want these songs to be covered by the Stripes on their next album.

@GaertnerJan loving to the comment, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

This song kinda sounds like The Hardest Button to Button !
Jack is not capable of writing or performing a bad song.
@dmunny420 nope, sorry.
@lordedvard8 Tumbs up!
@cowboyjam7 I have one. 1. lol
It just doesn't seem right that Jack should go and start a band that's essentially the White Stripes - Meg.
