    I still remember going through the practice sessions of the old Hooked on Phonics books as a child. My reading became 2000% better after going through the exercises (even though I was hella frustrated trying to learn how to pronounce certain words lol). It helped turn me into a prolific reader though, and I definitely wasn't embarrassed about reading in front of a classroom full of people anymore.

    Would you recommend Hooked on Phonics for a 1st grader who’s struggling a little?

    • @TheJohnsonCrew
      @TheJohnsonCrew  2 года назад

      Absolutely! Even starting out on the beginning easy levels can help boost their confidence and then as they continue through, they will learn so much and become more fluent!

    what is the earliest age to start?

    • @TheJohnsonCrew
      @TheJohnsonCrew  2 года назад

      You could start the Pre-reader section as early as you want! I would suggest age 3. If your child doesn't yet know the letters of the alphabet and the sound each letter represents, then you would start with the Pre-reader section (my video about that: ruclips.net/video/0_6ntDfzVS8/видео.html). We start the Reader part of the app at age 5!

    Can this be used for an adult who has trouble with sounding out words?
    Not simple words, but adult words like medications, words you’d read in college text books, etc.

    • @TheJohnsonCrew
      @TheJohnsonCrew  2 года назад +1

      Good question! This only goes up to a 2nd grade level, so you won't find examples of sounding out those higher education words. Medication names are especially tricky!

    • @ah3ll0
      @ah3ll0 Год назад +1

      But maybe relearning the concept of phonics may teach you how to sound things out. The phonics breakdown.

    • @TheJohnsonCrew
      @TheJohnsonCrew  3 года назад

      I haven't personally tried this with a child with your son's same experience, but have seen how well it helped my 4/5yos learn letter blends and I feel like sometime it's helpful to see those letter blends spelled out, so they can better understand how to pronounce the word more clearly. I would definitely say at least try it for 30 days and if you haven't seen an improvement within that timeframe, they will let you cancel your subscription and refund you (within 30 days). That way there's no risk on your part in trying it out!

      Did you ever find it? I was wondering about the lifetime subscription now, I've heard pricing around $15/monthly, so $80 for a lifetime is a great deal.

    Can someone please tell me if this program works for special needs kids? Specifically with kids that suffer with auditory process disorder?

    • @TheJohnsonCrew
      @TheJohnsonCrew  3 года назад

      I'm certainly not qualified to answer this question, but you could try reaching out to the company directly (contact form on their site) and ask! What's great about the trial month is it's only $1, so if it turns out to not be a a good fit for your child, then you're only out $1! I hope your child can still benefit from this program! You can also look into their physical books instead of using the app!
