THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THE TOO COOL DANCE!! WWF No Mercy was one of the most amazing N64 wrestling games I've ever played back then and it still is today!
I really really like how you added in that info of the 'data loss' on some cartridges. I bought one used, from the former Game Stop, was just a video game store in my mall. Had the game maybe 2 months before it F'd me over. I was still a kid, 14 or so, and had my mom send it in to THQ. They sent me back another cartridge, maybe two weeks later, and I thought my problem was fixed forever! That cartridge ended up having data loss after a couple years. I was so disappointed...
Bro ur reviews are under rated. U need more recognition. You go so in depth with it man. Keep it up. Btw its between No Mercy and WM 2000 for me. I liked WM 2000s roster best. But I also like No Mercys robust story.
Great series, man. Just watched all the vids. I never had a N64 so I never got to play these great games. thanks to emulation though I recently (a few days!) got into finally playing and trying them all and I am having a BLAST. you really know your stuff as well! didn't expect to see def jam and ultimate muscle mentioned. I hope you continue to do wrestling game reviews. I just wish you would have mentioned how GOD DAMN HARD the games can be. No Mercy really has no mercy!
@@Wheels8504 dude, that’s awesome. I can handle expert on No Mercy quite easily, however, struggle to finish off AI in Revenge on hard sometimes cuz they’ll no-sell your finishers late into matches and it can be a pain to get a 3 count even though you’ve ‘destroyed’ them. I think that’s one of the reasons I don’t go to Revenge as much.
Why does everyone forget Wrestlemania 2000? VPW2 is forgivable as it was only Japan but like those 2 games are better than Revenge and some even debate VPW2 is better than No Mercy.
I know this vid is 11 years old and I have to say it’s a good review, I too also regret getting rid of my n64 18 years ago cuz I miss playing these games. Right now 18 years later at 35 i decided to rebought the n64 consoles one black u.s. version and a gold color region free version so as a hardcore wrestling fan guess what I rebought? Wcw/nwo revenge, Wwf attitude, Wwf wrestlemania 2000, Wwf no mercy, and virtual pro wrestling 2 added to my collection! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Is there any way to figure out if your game cartridge is a glitched copy or a fixed copy, other than having the glitch happen or not happen? Is there a difference in the serial numbers, or a different looking cartridge, and so on?
Sanders Keel said on Insiders Edge podcast that Nintendo apologized about the bad cartridges. It was totally on Nintendo. I managed to get a copy from THQ after sending mine into them. They sent a letter, too, but I've since lost it, sadly.
Dude, fucking awesome reviews! WCW vs NWO in N64 were remarkable during my teen years and that's a pleasure to watch this revival so careful made and well done (and, got dammit, do you read japanese?) thanks for all these videos, buddy!
BIG NEWS GUYS!! AEW is making a new game and they're going to be using the AKI Engine. Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes confirmed that the game is gonna be similar to No Mercy!!!!
My favorite mode of this game is the "Gameboy Color mode" which could only be unlocked by a gameshark code. The storyline for that mode is so much fun!
I still play No Mercy to this day instead of the SDvsR series. That's just how awesome it is. Great review, and I especially agree with what you said about the Ho being too expensive. ^^
@GreenRedBlue20 Yeah Def Jam Vendetta and Fight for NY were developed by AKI, but they don't have the kind of depth that No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 have, although I LOVE the interaction in the F4NY stages. They're still really fun to play though. AKI is now called syn Sophia and yes, they developed the Yakuza spinoff on the PSP.
Crash allegedly weighing 400 pounds. Loved how they put that gimmick in the game. I can't remember which one but another WWF game had the announcer say that if you put a custom wrestler at that or over that mark.
I got my game on launch and have never had the glitch in 13 years. Also the Big Show's real life weight was the real reason he was removed from this game. God I wish WWF Backlash had been finished and released. The Hell in a Cell match would have been amazing on n64.
Great game despite the deletion glitch. In fact I have a copy for that and hadn't gotten a clean one. I didn't think any of the Gamecube WWE games were that bad (Except for Crush Hour and Wrestlemania X-8) since it has that classic AKI gameplay feel. Other than that I agree.
@beatnix I thought the old SmackDown! games (before SmackDown vs. Raw) were pretty fun, especially Here Comes The Pain and the first two on the PlayStation. Day of Reckoning 1 on the GameCube was great too. I never played the 2nd one.
This was supposed to be the improvement of WCW vs NWO that 'we' were waiting for, but the entrances with the signature moves / taunts etc were missing, which is about when the time 'we' started losing interest in our game. I agree that this is the BEST the N64 could muster and to date has NEVER been matched and some distance from being surpassed.
@AllieRX87 Have you tried the demo for the PSP? I thought the demo was pretty cool. I would buy it but I don't understand Japanese that much, Sega need to localise the game.
I still wanted to see AKI's WCW Mayhem 2000 how it's gonna turns out just playing Def Jam Vendetta n see how awesome the game play and the story mode just imagine it's was with the WCW Universe in it
AllieRX if you had time would you rant on the CAWs, review CAWs from 1993 up to now, and talk about the create an entrance systems. Why I'm ask about this, is to see your opinion and because these are topics for videos that aren't on RUclips and I can't find the even when I look hard to find them.
Those screenshots of "WCW 2000" refer to Backstage Assault. AKI did way better with that idea with Def Jam Fight for New York and it's prequel The Takeover on PSP. I also think their Ultimate Muscle games were a good version of what THQ San Diego (the former Midway Los Angeles developers of TNA Impact) were going for with WWE All Stars.
Christopher Pace You may have viewed a dubbed version of his Judgment Day 2000 return, but The Undertaker did return with "American Badass" by Kid Rock as his theme and didn't change to "Rollin" until December of 2000.
They replaced bugged copies for free! I got it for Christmas 2000 and called them up myself as a 12 year old and I sent the old cart and they sent back a new copy with a letter. I sadly misplaced both manuals (but the PDF of it is online) and the letter but I still have my working copy and both boxes.
@ProWrestlingDynasty Maybe it could work with Ken Shamrock or Steve Blackman, but that's about it. They should have it for created wrestlers though, but oh well. I was never able to pull off the combos perfectly anyway.
@AllieRX87 Isn't Def Jam using the AKI engine? The gameplay is similar to the wrestling games by Aki on the N64. Aki is under Sega with a different name. Search Kurohyou: Ryu Ga Gotoku Shinshou for the PSP, the gameplay is similar to the Def Jam games.
Hey There, I also found it yet. Never played No Mercy, so the most Epic and Best Wrestling Game was WcW vs. nWo Revenge. It contains that i never watched WWF. I Hope that Pro Wrestling X finally get released
The way Sanders Keel told it, they got the GameCube dev kit and were like "This doesn't even do stuff the N64 could do," so AKI wanted to work on the PS2 instead, but THQ already had Yuke's for that. So that was the end of that. AKI knew No Mercy was it and jumped to EA. Yuke's poached Shunsuke Katsumata and Takumi Kon who worked on No Mercy as lead designers on the WWE GameCube and the Japan only Yuke's releases of Wrestle Kingdom 1 and 2 on PS2. games and and the rest is history. I think Katsumata and Kon might have had something to do with a couple of Smackdown vs. Raw games.
@Michaelanelson14 To be honest, I don't follow the SmackDown vs. Raw games and I've only played like a few of them. I am, however, checking out the new WWE All-Stars game. I heard it was really fun.
You know Allie-RX, im really praying that AEW pulls through with this game. Its been a long time since we had a good wrestling game with the AKI Engine!!! Shit i feel old just thinking about No Mercy. I had so many memories of this game!!!! I had that game when i was 4 years old (2004) and I still play that game to this very day as a 20 year old!!! The Championship mode, the character creation, The Survival Mode, The Multiplayer, The Smackdown Mall and The Gameplay was something you had to experience as a kid. It was a excellent time to be a Wrestling fan cause!! The flaws they had unfortunately was the bug that erased everything you earned and created and No Big Show.😒😞
While WWE '13 is an awesome game, i wish THQ would give AKI a chance to make a new WWE game. It would be epic bringing back all the features from No Mercy and other WWF games.
wow never thought anyone else love the game more then me lol but yea it was definatly the best wrestle mainia 200 was good too but no mercy was just simply the best. i still play it today on my project 64 emulator with roster updates but i still have to get used to playing with my xbox 360 controller plugged into my pc in stead of a n64 controller.

Too bad that WWF Backlash on the N64 got canceled in order to develop WWF Wrestlemania X-7 for the GameCube. If it hadn't been, we'd probably be talking about that and not No Mercy...the planned "Hell-in-a-Cell" and 6-man tag-team matches would've been epic.
you forgot to mention the tidbit that the story mode menu music is a ripoff of mystikal's shake it fast (shake ya ass for the adults)... seems they continued their history of ripping off music, even when they changed the genre from metal to hip-hop... a genre trend that continued with the Def Jam games. I didn't know about the rip-offs in all the other games, thanks for that!
@beatnix Hard to say. I always prefer the N64 games over the Smackdown games, but as for Def Jam, I'm not sure. It has an amazing grappling system and gameplay mechanics but what turns me off a bit is most of the roster, although I do like certain rappers like DMX, Method Man, Redman, Sticky Fingaz, Ghostface Killah, WC, and Snoop Dogg.
@bildo1977 Honestly, I have no clue. I never got the chance to trade in my glitched copy. Maybe the serial number(s) could help. If you're gonna buy the game, I recommend getting a used copy because the person selling it probably knows if it's fixed or not.
Very good review. I personally wished that Aki Corporation/Syn Sophia would make more high quality wrestling/fighting games. Isn't it just sad that the last Aki fighting game (or in this case, I should say, "arcade boxer") to be released in the US is Ready 2 Rumble Revolution for the Wii. Unlike the other high quality Aki wrestling/fighting games, Ready 2 Rumble Revolution is pure garbage.
Overall, I prefer VPW2 most due to the create a mask feature and the fact that I can use a gameshark code to fix the spirit system for 15+ minute matches.
Also No mercy didnt have the combonation system like in VPW VPW2 WCW/NWO revenge, World tour. Which I guess is also minor and wouldnt really work with WWFS wrestlers.
Lol you might be right about THQ Man. According to Sanders Keel on Talk Sh"t! podcast there were disagreements between AKI and THQ towards the end. Imagine if AKI did games on Xbox instead for the next generation. No Raw or Wrestlemania 21, but No Mercy sequels instead. Rumor has it that the AEW Fight Forever's publisher is THQ Nortic, so THQ man might return, tho he wouldn't ship with the game since they'll only have 50 wrestlers to start. There won't be any AEW Man dummies either, since Yuke's is probably using Red, Green, Blue for CAW dummies again.
@nigahigafan02 Not really. You can play it, but it keeps flashing in the match. I'm surprised I wasn't foaming at the mouth by the time I was done with my first match. This sucks, since I loved playing this as a wee child.
The N64 has some timeless multiplayer games including GoldenEye 007, Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros. and WWF No Mercy.
@Ivan Gotsukdov perfect dark and 007 was the best and Zelda on 64
Amen
I remember watching this video back in middle school... I'm 23 now! Much love to you my man, I hope you doing good!

you are so awesome for making this documentary, thank you so much u educated me and brought back alot of memories keep doing what your doing

I remember I made my own stable. It was Red DX. Just as the Wolfpack was to the Nwo. Yeah, I know not that creative.
Aki wrestling the hulk hogan of wrestling games
Look where THQ is now. Anyway, No Mercy and Revenge were the two best.
I own em both. Mainly play No Mercy, but cmon, gotta have Revenge in the collection since it’s the best WCW game ever.
@@seejayfranklin I have them both also and play Revenge more myself.
@@Wheels8504 dude, that’s awesome. Every time I see those DX posters, I think of your logo.
R.I.P THQ MAN and THQ they both went bankrupt.
;c
May your company rest in peace.
Oh, and Nice Vid!

VPW2 and No mercy
I had the stupid glitch too, but i still loved this game, and i still play it to this day
@beatnix Yup! Loved them! I have both for the GameCube.
My no mercy game had glitches and was defective. I never knew if this was the case with all of them or just a few or just mine. But it was still fun.
@GreenRedBlue20 Yeah Def Jam Vendetta and Fight for NY were developed by AKI, but they don't have the kind of depth that No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 have, although I LOVE the interaction in the F4NY stages. Any chance you could do the Package Piledriver?
Really great job man, loved this special review.
Would love to see you review the Def Jam games. Most people that review them don't touch on the relationship to the aki 64 wrestlers.
what do you think of the smackdown series before smackdown vs raw
3DS would be the perfect platform for a No Mercy remake since the 3DS is essentially a portable N64/GameCube/Wii.
Some have suggested that Richards was probably safe because he definitely wasn't involved in any main event storylines.
I got my game on launch and have never had the glitch in 13 years.
Also the Big Show's real life weight was the real reason he was removed from this game.
God I wish WWF Backlash had been finished and released. The Hell in a Cell match would have been amazing on n64.
Last time I checked, the last N64 game was released around summer 2002--I think it was one of those Tony Hawk Skateboarding games.
Very good informational review
Nice review, I love this game.
Did you play the new Smackdown vs Raw 2011?
Great game despite the deletion glitch. In fact I have a copy for that and hadn't gotten a clean one. I didn't think any of the Gamecube WWE games were that bad (Except for Crush Hour and Wrestlemania X-8) since it has that classic AKI gameplay feel. Other than that I agree.
do you get anything if you one hundred percent one of the championships?
how do you do a finisher
Great job!
This is Epic win!
@musiqman205 That happens at certain points depending on the storyline, but you still win the title at the end.
@beatnix I thought the old SmackDown! games (before SmackDown vs. Raw) were pretty fun, especially Here Comes The Pain and the first two on the PlayStation. Day of Reckoning 1 on the GameCube was great too. I never played the 2nd one.
You definitely have to review the two AKI Def Jam games, ESPECIALLY Fight For NY, IMO the best MMA game of all time.
This was supposed to be the improvement of WCW vs NWO that 'we' were waiting for, but the entrances with the signature moves / taunts etc were missing, which is about when the time 'we' started losing interest in our game.

Also, the Survival mode? There's bout 100 guys, if I recall.
I can thank Mr. Ass for saving me like 4 times throughout the whole thing.
undertakers theme isnt kid rock its limp bizkit-rollin'
Christopher Pace That was his 2001 theme. His 2000 theme was "American Bad Ass" by Kid Rock.
oh i see this game though was targeted to 2000 and at judgement day 200 he returned with rollin
Christopher Pace You may have viewed a dubbed version of his Judgment Day 2000 return, but The Undertaker did return with "American Badass" by Kid Rock as his theme and didn't change to "Rollin" until December of 2000.

Good work, I dig your videos

wow never thought anyone else love the game more then me lol but yea it was definatly the best wrestle mainia 200 was good too but no mercy was just simply the best. i still play it today on my project 64 emulator with roster updates but i still have to get used to playing with my xbox 360 controller plugged into my pc in stead of a n64 controller.

@beatnix yes i have i still own a n64 and have wcw nwo revegne worldtour wm2000 and no mercy still in my collection
great review...you did an epic game justice.

i miss this game
Why was big show not in the game
wwf no mercy, I'm playing it right now ;)
Very good review.
Very informational.
I heard AKI is making a platformer with BILLco Interactive.
I'll take that as you like it
Lol you might be right about THQ Man. According to Sanders Keel on Talk Sh"t! podcast there were disagreements between AKI and THQ towards the end.
Imagine if AKI did games on Xbox instead for the next generation. No Raw or Wrestlemania 21, but No Mercy sequels instead.

Finally i love this game all wrestling should be like no mercy
No Mercy is the goat on n64 while Here Comes The Pain is the goat of wrestling games on the ps2
@nigahigafan02 Not really. You can play it, but it keeps flashing in the match. I'm surprised I wasn't foaming at the mouth by the time I was done with my first match.
This sucks, since I loved playing this as a wee child.
I don't get why you don't like the original song 7 that was used for andre the giant, it was awesome
