Fun Fact: When Fire Pro Wrestling Returns came out in November 13th, 2007, KOF XI came out that same date. That was when SNK Playmore was bringing in the hits following Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1, World Heroes Anthology, Art of Fighting Anthology, Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1 & 2, and Samurai Showdown Anthology.
I've been a fan of the Fire Pro series since Fire Pro Wrestling X on the SNES. I also own G, D, Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 and 2 on the N64, Fire Pro Wrestling Advance, Toukon Retsuden 3 on the PSX, and Wrestle Kingdom on the PS2. Allie, I'm all into it as well my friend. Keep in touch bro.
Oh my fucking god! I saw this video and remembered that I used to have this game. I went in the closet to go through some old boxes and I FOUND IT , along with some other shit I forgot I had! Fuck yeah!
@Allie-RX Well, it's always a great time playing Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on the PS2, and I wanna go back to Fire Pro Wrestling Z and play some Story Mode and Victory Road, and it has some new promotions like ZERO-ONE and World Japan, so haven't you try Fire Pro Wrestling Z yet?
Try starting on a very easy difficulty, like COM Level 1. Keep practicing until you're ready for a higher COM Level. Then press a button as soon as both wrestlers touch each other to do a grapple. Square is weak, X is Medium, Circle is Strong, Triangle is Irish Whip, and Square+X is your Signature/Finisher. Start with your weak moves, then work your way up.
I don't see how the controls are confusing. Square = Weak Grapple/Strike X = Medium Grapple/Strike Circle = Strong Grapple/Strike Triangle = Irish Whip/Run Square + X = Finisher D-Pad = move around/perform more grapples Controls seem pretty simple. All you gotta do is walk up to your opponent and press any of the buttons mentioned above as soon as they lock-up.
I used to play the nintendo emulators on my pc and fire pro came in the bunch i downloaded. needless to say, i loved it and was excited when fire pro wrestling returns came out for ps2. i bought it when it came out ( for which i paid 20 bucks) and was blown away! i immediately forgot about my copy of smackdown vs raw 2007 and still to this day, fire pro has been my go-to game when it comes to wrestling! and great review! I'm glad you're spreading the word about this fantastic game! :D
Set it up like a tag match but highlight the partner icon and change it to 2nd. Also if you're in tournament or league mode change it to from singles or tag to MIX.
Been a Fire Pro fan since 6-Men Scramble on Saturn. Bought all the Fire Pro home console games after that (Firepro G,D,Z, & Returns, Japanese version). Still own all of them and still play Returns to this day. I actually bought a 2nd PS2 (Japanese PS2) just for this game. This vid has me wanting to fire up the PS2 right now. :)
I had just got this game on the PSN and it is FREAKING AMAZING!!! I can't wait to stop getting my ass kicked so I can really start having some fun in it lol.
Love this video. Love this game. FPW Returns was epic.. I’ve been playing FPW World and FPW D on my iPhone to get my fix wherever I am (and posted a few videos of iphone gameplay). Amazing that you can play such amazing games on your phone.
@AllieRX87 Yeah, the ARMax way is the old way, now we use Free McBoot which allows you to run unsigned applications on PS2 and by using LaunchElf you can put any type of files to the memory card (since memory cards for PS2 are basically small USB drives and use FAT filesystem).
Awesome game ,and great review. I wish that you could perform a lionsault ,you can do so many sick moves but you cant do a move like the lionsault. Maybe in their next game,if there is going to be one.
I don't think so, but you can always create an American PSN account and import an American PSN card. It's very easy to create one. I did that with Fire Pro Wrestling G when I created a Japanese PSN account and imported a Japanese PSN card. There's plenty of tutorials here on RUclips.
I would have had more fun with it if the solo mode was practically nonexistent, that it had Fire Pro Wrestling staples in the game, that it had an awesome menu interface like the GBA Fire Pro Wrestling games had, that it had a better Edit Mode that actually took some cues from Mario Paint or computer painting programs, particularly with the ZOOM and GRID functions of those programs, that it had commentary options, more character entrance options, and video and audio options for the wrestlers.
I love these games but they really need to start putting some type of career mode into the newer games. Hopefully when fire pro world hits the ps4 they'll add in that feature.
They DID make a three-dimensional version of the game, Nima Naghibi...in fact, they made TWO three-dimensional versions of the game, too. Oh, and before I continue, technically, prior to the release of the Fire Pro games for the GBA, they actually DID release altered versions of Fire Pro wrestling games. One was for the Game Boy/Color and it was named HAL Wrestling and the other one, the Iron Slam Fire Pro game, was released as Power Move Pro Wrestling for the PS1. I will continue my post.
Do you have the difficulty set to 1? You'll get better at the game if you start at a very easy difficulty. Make sure your timing is right. Press a button THE VERY SECOND both wrestlers lock-up.
That should read was NOT practically nonexistent and that it had modes from previous Fire Pro Wrestling games and many from the WWF/WWE games, too (and yes, they can STILL be done in a two-dimensional format, too). Oh well, one can always hope for a three horse race and that NWA gets its act together and works with someone say, like Konami, and makes an awesome wrestling game, too. I would love it if Agetec/Spike WOULD actually work on making a sequel for the current and new game consoles.
I've created the hardy boys, the Dudley boys, beer money inc, London and Kendrick, the road warriors, four horsemen, dgeneration x, some indy wrestler like Jay leathal, Brodie Lee (R.I.P.) the young bucks. And of course my favourite wwe legends undertaker, kane, rock, and stone cold.
To be fair, match maker mode was already in the Japanese release of Fire Pro Wrestling 2 although it was done a bit better then. Still hard to believe that the mode came out four years before GM Mode.
thanks you sooooooo fucking much!!! was just looking for a tutorial video and stumbled on your video, you answered all the questions i had!! great video
There's King of Colosseum Red/Green and King of Colosseum II for the PS2, but they were only released in Japan...just like most Fire Pro Wrestling games.
i want to download Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on the PS3 but from what im reading in their overview it says this version does not support PS2 peripherals therefore functions such as multiplayer, versus, and co-op modes are not available. now im not sure if i should go out and buy the PS2 game on disc or download it to the PS3.
+Allie-RX gotcha. it kind of through me off. from how im understanding it they make it seem like they took out multiplayer, versus, and co-op modes from the PS3 downloaded version.
This game is awesome! There's so much stuff to chew on, its 2012 and still there's nothing better out there.. It is worryingly complex at first but once you get used to the moves, how they are performed and you get a favorite wrestler (or seven) you can can have so much fun with it. Awesome as a one player game for wrestling nuts and as a multiplayer for almost anyone else with a passing interest in wrasslin..
pros of the game: incredible custom creation incredible movesets, awesome match types, they even made create a belt well with only a limited amount of room. cons of the game: controls are a little confusing, definitely not a game for beginners
Is there anyway to use edit packs for the PSN version? I owned this game(twice actually) and now cannot find it. I was thinking of buying it on PSN, but if you cannot use the edit packs there, then there is no need for me to buy it. I will just buy it for the PS2 if the edit packs only work for PS2. Thanks, and awesome review.
Imported this badboy from Italy, worth the £50 I paid and I don't even like wrestling. It sickens me that such a good game was easily picked up in bargain bins in America. Most under-rated and under-sold game on PS2. Love the videos AllieRX87, keep up the good work.
@PowerGohan91 I can only read SOME katakana and usually when it's pronounced as an English word. For example, プロレスリング is Pro Wrestling or "Puroresuringu". But for the most part, I can't understand Japanese.
By the way, I owned this game previously, I bought a copy for a friend of mine on his birthday, I had my copy of this game stolen, and I now have another copy of this game, so, yes, I DO like this game, I just hate certain parts of the game. This game also needs control options, as in to have the ability to configure your controls for the wrestlers, to automatically let wrestlers breathe instead of only manually doing the deed, or turning off breathing entirely, and more solo options here, too.
When I first bought this game I didn't know what to do. I would land a few moves here and there. The create-a-everything kept me busy but it wasn't until I played the GBA games that I understood the engine and system. Number 2 best wrestling series next to the AKI games. I say this is in the highest praise.
Can you make a tutorial on how to download packs onto flash drive to the ps3? Id prefer a video tutorial instead of reading it so i can see and hear for myself

They needed to take lessons from WWE WrestleMania 21, WWE Raw 2, and Monster Rancher with making a special function to import videos, wrestler songs, and video/wrestling show graphics, too. The reason that I am saying this is that people either play this or the WWF/WWE games for innumerable wrestling electronic federations (or e-feds for short), and it would behoove Agetec/Spike to follow suit. Even WWF/WWE does it in its games, too!

Allie-RX ps4 version will have actual new Japan characters. No made up names for them.
Allie-RX can you import fire pro wrestling returns to PS4
@Allie-RX, so, how does Fire Pro Wrestling World compare to this game?
@Allie-RX, what if I have a PS2 and a physical copy of the game?

your recent recent reviews are actually a lot better than your older ones....keep up;)

i'm downloading the game from the playstation network right now. do you have fire pro returns in ps3 as well too?
Are there any kinds of Weapons in Fire Pro Wrestling for GBA ?
I'm excited to download this game from PSN Friday
