From the original Budokai to the BT games
i put hundreds and hundreds of hours into these games. These were MY fighting games.
These games built friendships (sometimes ended them), bridged cultural barriers, and introduced so many people even DBZ fans themselves
to characters they had not seen before. These games are so legendary to the Dragon Ball franchise that DB lived on because of them despite not airing a "New" episode for over 10 years.

Despite all the DBZ games that have come out over the years, BT1 has the most badass and authentic Intro of all of DBZ games of the Franchise. BT2 and BT3 in my opinion still remains the most Unique and the best DBZ games in terms of content, quality and fanservices. And from the gameplay perspective aspects, these DBZ games that I mentioned are very close to the anime itself because of the Vibe and Charm, I don't know how to describe it but it was, and still is the most Unique DBZ experience you could have with the combat factor. (- Sheer amount de of characters
    - Transformations mid-battle (powering up and down)
    - Fusions mid-battle
    - Fast gameplay that has that "woah" feel
    - Tons of extra content
    - Story mode covering all sagas + movies
    - What If sagas
    - Shenron having permanent impact on game (character unlocks and whatnot)
    - Great tournaments that rotate availability
    - Edit characters with items (buffs)
    - 5v5 battles
    - Really Great and Epic Soundtracks
    - Destroyable environments
    - Entire stages could be blown up into their "destroyed" alternatives
    - Mission 100 being a great challenge
    - Artwork is 10/10
    - Sound effects are great
    - Combat feels heavy and satisfying) Only Budokai 3, Infinite World and the Raging Blast 1 and 2 and all of PSP DBZ games except of Dragon Ball Z Evolution are still considered also very solid DBZ games, also the hidden gem that a lot of DBZ fans missed from PS2 Era of DBZ games is "Super Dragon Ball Z" which is also a real Unique and DBZ game, especially for the different gameplay aspects perspective.

When I was a little kid, like around 5-7 years old I was introduced to Dragon Ball through playing all 3 Budokai games non stop with my older brother. And later on when I was in middle school me and my best friend at the time would vs each other in BT2 and 3 after class almost every day. BT3 is still my favorite Dragon Ball game of all time and I am massively hyped for Sparking Zero!

I grew up solely on the GBA & DS games as a kid because we weren't able to afford a new home console until the Wii skipping straight from the N64 to the Wii but after I got my first job I went back and bought a used GameCube & PS2 and some of the DBZ games like Budokai 3 & Sagas. Budokai 3 I still enjoy but Sagas I was only able to beat once years ago when I brought it to one of my high school friend's house before he moved away and we went through the co-op mode together which was still bad but it was at least better than singleplayer.

I actually was one of those kids, my introduction to Dragon Ball was actually GT Final Bout at a friend's house, which they had rented. I didn't have cable at the time, so I almost never got to watch the series, but my friends and I were all playing the Score TCG, then the Budokai games came along, I eventually did get cable and got to watch the series on Toonami as the Buu Saga was airing, and I got my own copy of Budokai 1, so I got to experience the earlier stories of the series in that way, until finally managing to collect the DVDs. So yeah, of not for the games, I don't know if I would be as in love with the series as I am today!

26:18 I have a lot of nostalgia for dragon ball sagas. During the late 2000s when I was in Mexico, the store across the street of where I lived had a arcade machine and it had DB sagas on it, I would play on that machine and sometimes my friends or family members would also play with me whenever we were sent to the store or whenever I had money. One thing that should be pointed out regarding Dimps is its founder: Takashi Nishiyama who was the creator of Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, and the King of Fighters series. And while Dragon Ball Z Budokai is a different type of fighting game than those series, it shows how lucky this series was to have someone who understands the philosophy and values of making fighting games but having its team to use the Dragon ball z elements when making those games. I cannot wait to finally play Sparking Zero later this week!

One thing you missed with Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on was if you used certain super moves in battle you could cause extreme damage to the battlefield.

0:20 Absolutely true. Story: I still remember that my introduction to Dragon Ball was watching a (i still don't know exactly which one but either 1 or 2) tenkaichi game at my friend's place on his ps2 when i was a child, he was playing the world tournament mode, i still vividly remember seeing characters like Chiaotzu, Tien and Goku in super saiyan doing some basic dragon ball stuff. I had never seen a game like this before and i think it was also my first exposure to a fighting game, i was captivated by the fun seeming action and wanted to have a go not getting rung out seeing my friend and his little brother losing some times, thinking i could maybe do it better or whatever / just wanting to experiment iirc. I was also captivated by the unique designs of those 3 guys and thought Chiaotzu was a pretty strong fighter (lol) cause of his fast attacks. My friend's little brother would make goofy comments about Chiaotzu because of his speed and name, which really funnily enough gassed him up in my head lmao. Tien seemed really cool too cause of the intriguing third eye and his tri beam cannon iirc. And lastly Goku was the cool looking buff character with cool clothes, some main character energy and cool hair and iirc good moves, though surprisingly he seemed slightly less interesting than fast af & meme-y Chiaotzu and mysterious third eye serious Tien. I only saw this game be played for what? an Hour? Lol really not a long time (i never saw the game again next visits, this was a one-off experience), but it certainly stuck with me very well as you can see above. It had stuck enough with me all this time, that when i visited a big flea market with my family as an early teen and randomly walked past a copy of Tenkaichi 2 being offered for sale there, i recognized Goku and Tien enough to make me remember and want the game; sold for a low price of around 12 euros for the Wii. It was a deal and man i was curious and excited to play it when i got home, both due to the memories of what i saw as a kid & the curiosity that it left me, about to be satisfied; but also cause the cover art (+ back) for the game looked pretty fucking awesome/wild to me and intriguing. The game ended up being a far bigger journey than what i bargained for (only thinking of the world tournament really, instead got that and a huge story mode & more) but i obviously ended up having 0 complaints about it (the story was engaging + loads of fun gameplay, characters and leveling up) and played the fuck out of it. All this content and their awesome, and again intrigiungly unique & cool character designs (cool art!) + extensive lore got me curious & planted the seed to look up more about Dragon Ball Z later on. I think i was 16 when i eventually watched my first DBZ fight on YT, Goku vs Cell (instant kamehameha) iirc. Which all of course further hooked me into the series, to the point that when i randomly saw Hit vs Goku pass by on facebook (a site i didn't actively browse lol idek how this happened) i started catching up on Super and following it weekly from that point on. And now years later, having acquainted myself more with DB throughout, i'm here, definitely a fan of the IP. Still have to watch DB and DBZ (all full episodes) tho lol but we all know Dragon ball fans don't even watch the show LMAO.
This all as an example to show how important videogames and even their endlessly repeated story modes can be to bringing in newcomers to the series.

(You might think i figured out the hard way Chiaotzu actually wasn't that goated after all once i got the game & watched some DBZ, and you'd be right, but y'all best be ready when SZ drops)

There are dozens of videos on this platform talking about the Dragon Ball games but it just hits different when it comes from someone like you who has been so knowledgeable about and invested in the series for the past decade. As a fan I'd love if you'd talk about the older games from the NES/SNES era someday even if most viewers nowadays are only interested in the next new big thing.
On a note related to the video though, I'm glad me holding off on buying the PS3 by a few years led to me being able to enjoy Infinite World in all its glory because Raging Blast and especially the Budokai Remaster seem so mediocre lmao. No wonder Xenoverse was so well received that they released a second game just a year later and are releasing DLC for it TO THIS DAY.

I remember playing the original trilogy of the Budokai games on my PlayStation 2 back in the early-mid 2000’a when I was a teenager. As you mentioned in the video, I liked all of them, but if I had to pick with money on the line, Budokai 3 was my favorite, because, at the time, it had pretty much everything. It wasn’t perfect, but the graphics were good, the gameplay was relatively easy to figure out, and it wasn’t overly difficult for people who wanted to play the game for fun like myself. I hope that the developers who designed the new game which I’m going to get took heavy cues from how Budokai 3 was made and just modernized it/made it better for the newer generation consoles. If they can give us a better version of Budokai 3 with the addition of what we have now, thanks to Dragon Ball Super and the cool stuff related to it, I think a lot of Dragon Ball fans who played the games, including myself will be very happy. After all, we’ve been waiting a decade and a half for them to make this. Hopefully, it will be worth the wait. 🤘

Infinite world is the last game of the Budokai series. I had the physical game case and on the back it literally said “the final entry of the Budokai series”

Tenkaichi 2 definitely brought me into the fold. Nothing I've played since captures that feeling of being able to vanish, block and dish out crazy combos once you get to know the system, making you really feel like a Z fighter. Can't wait.

It’s funny when the original one came out. I just had a game cube and I remember being so excited when they finally released it on the game cube I literally asked for a PlayStation two slimline just so I can play the sequels and I play the games, which was cool for me because of the time there weren’t a lot of games I could play due to my cerebral palsy, I could only play fighters and at the time I was young so all the ones that were mature were off-limits lol

I grew up on the PS3/Xbox 360 era of video games, raging blast 1 and 2 were the closest things for me experiencing Budokai Tenkaichi, I was fortunate enough however to get to play Tenkaichi 3 way back with a old friend from elementary( hope he is doing well btw) I just know that if I enjoyed the raging blast games as much as I did back when I was a kid I would have probably died happy If I got to own any of the 3 tenkaichi games man, now i have the first tenkaichi game on the ps2 as well as a few other classics such as GTA 3 and Spider-Man 2, I’m currently debating on buying a bottle of henny for sparking zero lmfao because I can, i hope everybody that pre ordered sparking zero, regardless what console/ generation you grew up on, gets to re experience the joy and nostalgia that they did playing older DBZ games when they were younger, and May this new generation of fans have an amazing time and create new memories with their friends to look back on fondly, this is a good time to be a dragon ball fan bro. And thank you Geekdom101 for everything you do, on this channel and World of Geekdom, you killin it man! I look forward to the daima content my guy🙏🏽

I'm actually playing budokai tenkaichi 3 now 😂 I still think that's the best. I played 2 in high school and let me say I HUNTED for 3. It sold out everywhere. I didn't get the game til I was 22. 3 will always be the best. I'm not even saying that for nostalgia I'm saying that because it actually feels like a genuine dbz game

Tenkaichi 3 is timeless. It will always be the best. The only thing that would've secured it to the top position indefinitely is being online. Unfortunately, I played PS2 online back in the day for the Smackdown vs Raw series & it just wasn't there yet. If they would've rereleased Tenkaichi 3, upscaled with online, it would've been number 1 without a doubt.

Played Budokai 2, Tenkaichi 2 and also so very fortunate to get to play Infinite World when it came out. Infinite World for me is definitely top 3 with Tenkaichi 2 probably at number 1.

Tenkaichi 2 was my favorite. Tenkaichi 3 had more characters but I feel like that came at the cost of not as much story mode. Though I did love seeing so many OG dragonball characters in there.
Something else I used to do was make up my own what if stories.
