  • The insects are THRIPS, which are known to be plant pests. I put them under the microscope.

I *hate* thrips had them on a plant a few years ago, they're very resilient and when they fly they're also suicidal and fly into any sort of liquid including your tea.

I always throw my fruit under the scope to make sure it's covered with bugs before I eat them😊

Great video.. I just did a video of thrips in my roses.. I did look at strawberries from the market under a microscope a month ago, couldn’t find any thrips or insects on them.. great video..

Thanks for sharing your experiences, Oliver.
I didn't know that there are places that allow you to eat the strawberries before paying.
    I love strawberries.

Thrips is the usual term, singular or plural (family Thysanoptera), which you clearly know. A lab at PFW discovered Soybean Vein Necrosis used thrips as vectors. There are dozens of species of thrips; onion thrips, watermelon thrips, soybean thrips, tobacco thrips; a fascinating species.
Thank you for this up-close look. Most don't ever even see these little pests!

Thank you, Oliver, for that input and putting me off of foraging berries off of the bush and eating them as I pick when I come across them. Maybe I think too much. I like foraging brambles (Scottish) and I eat them as I hike straight from the bush. I'll try to forget your scientific conclusions.

    Erdbeerenland?
Best place to get larger amounts of strawberries, if you make jams.

Probably named after Henry James Franklin, an American cranberry grower and entomologist.

Pro tip: send this video to your local farmer. Let him know you won't reveal his name if he offer you a great discount on fruit (aka 100% discount). 🌹
This would be an offer that he cannot refuse.... (Godfather Theme song playing in background)

This telling me than I really have to try everything under the microscope! There’s always something to discover! 😊 By the way, did you show the video to the farmer?

Some level of "pest" insects on a crop is pretty normal. Usually it's only an issue when populations get out of control

Insects are delicious. Also insects are descendants of Crustaceans (e.g. crabs, shrimps, etc..), technically they are Crustaceans (e.g. crabs, shrimps, etc..), just like birds are dinasours. That is not much difference between eating insects and eating shrimps.
