Easiest but usually more expensive is to just buy a short bed in the first place!
The short beds are so popular everyone is cutting down the long bed trucks .
Great tips for all the procedures to get great results!
    Thanks David!!

    Now I'm wishing that I had a 60-66 gm truck. Oh well, I have a '68 and a '76, so I'm happy.
Here's a helpful tip. Cut on the inside lines of the tape. The reason is if you cut on the outside edge of the tape you're removing an additional 1/8" or so of material because of the blade with, also called Kerf.
I love that Dave is using a Harbor Freight tape measure, just like us working class guys.

Agree, but as long as you are cuttng on the same side of both pieces of tape the extra width of the blade/kerf makes a good gap for the panel clamps.

Basically my options when buying a project truck were shortening it like this and changing out the rear window for the large one, or dealing with a truck that had those options and a little more rust. Smh, budgets. I chose to deal with some rust instead. lol
    Thanks for the video!

I know I'm late to this party but , why did you cut out 20 inches (12 + 8 ) when there is only a 18 inch difference between long and short beds ? 8 ft. Vs 6 1/2 ft. Thanks .

We always use a BROTHERS Conversion Kit when cutting the frame. We have many videos on that kit here on our channel and they have links directly to the product.

@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV you say you want to save every truck ever made, but are showing how to cut up a perfectly good long wheel base pickup? I like the long wheel base trucks. My truck isn't a show piece, and I do handyman work all the time for the aging population of my small community. I like to be able to put plywood in the bed of my truck and close the tailgate. Looks like you ruined a perfectly good original bed panel to me.

Isn’t your width off because of the width of the cut off wheel?
