We all miss seeing Dave on our weekly Brother's Trucks videos. It's been a year since I last saw this video. I have it saved in my playlist library. Im getting a step closer to doing this to my 68 along with a front suspension and disc brake upgrade. I have a funny story to share. I have a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 that needs some body work done. I had misplaced my butt-welding clamps. As I was watching your video at the 1:04 mark, i had suddenly remembered where I had placed my clamps and walked right to them! They're now sitting on my end table. Thanks, Dave, for reminding mevwhere i had misplaced them at, and for the great video!
Dave is a wealth of information! Thank you Dave for taking the time to make this video and help us diy car guys to do this at home or shop! Merry Christmas!!
Thank you for the video i just bought my dream truck at 15 a couple months ago and am cutting the bedsides right now got my phone set up watch a little then cut a little thank you hhys
Well i got the front cut perfectly and im getting ready to weld it up i went a little bit farther back from the front than yall did in this video so that the one rust hole on my bed would be cut out
Thank you for all your videos you've put out over all these years. 2 days ago I cut up my 69 c10 bed sides and they came out great thanks to this video. Anytime you put up a video I already know it'll be worth watching. Thank you again. Ahmad
Watched a ton of videos on cutting down bedsides but I know when Dave is in front of the camera it will be laid out perfectly. Thanks for helping me perfect my craft. I’m working backwards..I’ve got a shortbed to use on my 68 but I’m taking long bedsides and cutting them down for a true unibody truck. It may be the only c10 with a subframe.
It would be helpful to show some grinding tricks. You said some tips of how to do it. But there was no video of it. Great job explaining how to make the cuts and where to do them.
IMPORTANT! When grinding, cutting, or welding make sure there is no glass in the area, the flying sparks ⚡️ will pit the glass. You won’t know it until you clean the glass for the first time after it’s pitted and the towel is snagged by the debris in the glass (don’t ask how I know this).

In RTP poly fiber mesh fabrication ' Grinding ',, an outer layer of clothes, ear plugs, and respirator are a talent when doning the Brazing Shield and dust mask or respirator, knowing your perifory, surrounding entrance and exits too. But metal fabrication " grinding " must be a little more environmentally friendly..?
Hey im about to do this to my 1970 c10 and have a question with the front when you cut the top of the bedside you said you needed to step over would it be possible to not do that just get rid of that pocket on the top of the bedside
That appears to be a longhorn bed? I have one I’m cutting down for my one ton dually . Measurements are different than a normal long bed. Anyway thanks for your videos I enjoy them
I want to cut a '69 LWB to a SWB and cut the original bedsides and perserve the original paint and patina of the truck without any weld lines. Is this possible?
Question; why not just take the 12 inches out and make a straight cut instead of stepping it over? I'm assuming you're doing this because you had a hole in the bed where somebody was going to put in a jewelry gas tank or something. So you want to get rid of that hole. Is there a reason for strength or something to make that jog? I know you want to save the stakehold but if you just did a 12-in wide cut with straight edges right out of the center between the front of the bed and the fender well here why not do that? Once again is it just because you already had a hole in the bed and wanted to take that hole out? Or is there another reason. Now I'm taking notes by asking you this question cuz I'll probably have another question and I'll make another comment. Thank you for showing us how to do this.
The step is to retain or "keep" the stake pocket. If you just cut it straight you would end up eliminating the pocket completely. Again, there are many ways to skin a cat as they say, and you COULD remove the pocket by drilling or cutting out the spot welds and the straight cut the bedside and move the pocket separately and create a new hole on top, but we find this is easier and faster.
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV thank you for a heads up. I'm back and forth on whether I want to try this I'm not. I did watch another Brothers tech about sectioning the frame and the guide which I assume your company sells. The last time I was about to try this, I drove about 6 hours each way to go pick up a short bed frame. I've got a half a dozen of these trucks. So I do have a real interest in actually doing it or just ordering the bed parts from you thank you again for your reply
DO NOT LISTEN TO HIS GLOVE ADVICE I had a piece of 12 gauge sever a tendon in my finger. It didn't have a sharp edge. Iwas a fabricator whonworked on cars in his spare time, so my hands were as callus as you can get. When working with sheet metal and while welding, always wear gloves.
The camera is way too far away to understand what you're talking about You need more close up shots of the scribe tools, tape and the marks you're putting down.

This was Great!!! I am going to tackle this
Always good. Keep them coming.

Great content!
Thanks for watching!
did this without ant panel clamps and was way harder and not as good as you did. definitely getting some
Panel clamps are a must in many bodywork situations.
Great video
Good job

Had a guy cutting metal next to all the windows in a multi million dollar remodel…ask his company how they know (like 35k later). Ouch.

Nice video do u have a video on how to cut the bed sides on a 1966 C10 or is it the same concept as this video you just put out?
What is the ruler with the scratching end called the one he uses at time 4:16
Do you have an video how to shorten the bed floor?
Hey im about to do this to my 1970 c10 and have a question with the front when you cut the top of the bedside you said you needed to step over would it be possible to not do that just get rid of that pocket on the top of the bedside
Yep, you could do that.
I notice your kit to shorten the long bed frame to short be is for c10s. Will it also work on the C20s?
100%
Hi do you have something for a c10 72 long horn bed to short bed? Thanks
That appears to be a longhorn bed? I have one I’m cutting down for my one ton dually . Measurements are different than a normal long bed. Anyway thanks for your videos I enjoy them
This was just a regular old longbed with a side tank cutout. Good luck with your project!
I am building a 1968 C50 into a pickup, I am needing to add about 3FT to the bed, any suggestions?
Section two beds together.
So is there any state laws or insurance issues that a person should be aware of before jumping into this project? Liability issues?
Hey there Dave! I m looking for 67-72 bed corners only. Couldn't find. No one makes them? Only the complete bed side?
Probably got to find another bed to cut up unfortunately 😕
@@A.R.T.Customs ok. Thanks for the reply. I'll keep looking
Are 1970 c20 long bed trailing arms longer than short bed please thks
Same length.
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV thank you
Will this kit work with a 71-72 longhorn pickup?
No sir, it will not. Sorry.
I want to cut a '69 LWB to a SWB and cut the original bedsides and perserve the original paint and patina of the truck without any weld lines. Is this possible?
You can avoid the welded seam at the front of the bed, but the rear seam is unavoidable.
I like the no wearing gloves never could stand wearing them and never have,

Pause and zoom in on the areas in question. Problem solved. 😂
Skin a cat?...no bro
Useless showing individual panels instead an actual bed.
