The sad part is Goku constantly wants to revive his father as seen as he gives his only Memento: the four stra to revive him in the first place. BUT had to constantly use them to save the earth and is Forced to learn to live without him. The most wholesome moment is when we see Gohan just watching Goku and just says that he's proud of" my lil boy your all grown up"

After rewatching DBZ, Goku wasn't a bad father, he just wanted to push his son to be strong enough to protect what he loves, even if he didn't like fighting, going so far as to willingly stay dead to keep the earth safe

goku may seem dumb and selfish most of the time, but he’s actually pretty clever and selfless. for all those people out there saying he’s a bad dad, think again. he sacrificed himself too many times cus if gohans mistakes because goku is just that good of a person.
Fun Fact: Goku being selfish was the way Toriyama wanted him to be originally.
Goku IS selfish, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love his family.
Goku isn't selfish it's just his world view when he was growing up is massively different than ours. I liked how DBZ:A said it when he sacrificed himself against fat cell. He was raised with a massively different experience than literally any other person. He was raised alone by Gohan, when Gohan died he was left alone for the longest time with only his martial arts. He then met Bulma who was literally the 2nd other person he'd ever met in his life. They had their adventure the first time then he spent all that time with Roshi, Krillin and Launch. Then the Piccolo saga happened and he was whisked away from everything and everyone again to be with Kami and Popo. Goku ever hung out with at most 4 people at a time and all he did from birth till Chichi was train himself. After Chichi there was some other stuff that happened at least twice we are aware of which gave us Gohan and Goten. Then he was back to training again because if he ever failed, if he wasn't enough, if he faltered for one second...he'd lose everyone again like when Gohan died, when Krillin died, when Chaozu died, Piccolo died, Yamcha died, Roshi died (I think at least he did trying to Mafuba Piccolo I could easily be wrong). Goku's love was expressed by him being strong enough that everyone else got to live carefree lives.8
@@anonymous10099 he also gave cell the senzu, so he'd have a "fair fight", he was warned repeatedly not to attract zeno's attention but instead did and potentially put his entire universe at risk for a good fight, (I know this actually wound up being the thing that saves them all, but not the point.) and that's a reccurring theme. goku will risk the world, galaxy, even the universe to have a fun fight. he'll also risk everyones lives for the sake of what he sees as "fair" if we use dnd alignment goku is chaotic neutral AT BEST.
@@deathknightrevan The Senzu was to force Gohan to draw out his true potential, so that he could be powerful enough to defend the planet. Goku knew this, as this was exactly what he was banking on to beat Cell.
The Zeno moment is DBS Goku, and Toriyama in recent years has written him to be more like GT Kid Goku than Pre-Buu Saga Goku, which I mean is that he's in more of a comedic role now, as the show (most of the time) doesn't take itself too seriously anymore.
If this was DBZ Goku, he'd have handled it similarly to how Frieza Saga Goku handled avoiding Frieza when he arrived on Namek.

Goku is a good dad. It just we never get to see it because fighting is the focus of Dragon Ball. And before you say about the whole Cell Senzu incident, while Goku was wrong about Gohan wanting to fight, he did it because he had confidence in his son, and he wanted Gohan to get stronger for his own sake.
