Personally i think i'd be content with more smaller updates released faster, because it'd mean i get to play around with new things more often. But it might also feel worse because each individual update would feel less impactful and might start to feel like lower value. Also i think we could get the same amount of content, but larger additions would have to take more updates before getting fully implemented. Like 1.21 might have been split between multiple updates, with Trail Chambers being in development across all of them before making it into a full release.

Fun retrospective video regarding legacy console edition and early post-microsoft Mojang. I like your insights too with future approaches Mojang could do - note the "Armoured Paws drop" is kind of similar to Cats & Pandas for Bedrock in Dec 2018 Christmas holidays - wow thats seems like a while ago 😅 Java had it packaged in Village & Pillage Summer 2019. I like the 1.10 update, even 1.15 too. An alternating strategy for major and minor updates could be a good thing for minecraft. Particularly if annouced at "Minecon" later in the year and perhaps E3-like/Gamescom or internal Xbox event early in the year. Something i thought about years ago - again this was a fun retrospect. I dont comment often and play Minecraft Java not so regularly, despite so i enjoy watching you - Minecraft and second/third channels, livestream life/universe/everything talks 😊
I'm so glad i'm not the only one that feels this way. As controversial as 1.9 was, at least it added cool features. 1.10's changes feel so minimal it seems like they could have just bundled it with 1.11 and still kept the "Exploration Update" name.
With the new minor ‘drops’ (like Armoured Paws), do you think minor version numbers will see parity between Java and Bedrock to avoid confusion, like how they made the major version numbers the same around 1.16
I actually like 1.10. I know it's a small update but bone blocks and red netherbrick are still some of my favorite blocks in the game to this day and because of that I wouldn't consider ranking it low.
As someone who always has a pet polar bear ASAP, I agree, sorta I like polar bears, but god lord I won't excuse trashy content just because of a fluffy icy fella.
Fossils are maybe impossable unless you are under a desert. Diamond fossils are pretty handy... if you ever find one. Chunkbase allows people to actually find them.
yeah phantoms are overhated imo, if you really hate them, just carry a bed with you. Before people get mending and such, they're the only method of elytra repairing, as well as making slow fall pots. its not even like theyre hard to kill, too imagine how the community would react if creepers were added today
@@AlexanderBentley-w2d I totally agree, but phantom membranes could be so much more useful if Mojang rebalanced enchanting without exponential xp cost or removed it from item repairs and implemented a way to stop the slow falling affect like the origins did with the avian so you could actually maneuver with an elytra and still get good vantage on hard to reach places
I like the legacy gameplay in the background! something about the movement and the graphics/lighting that has always been way better than java or bedrock
so now mojang are giving us new flavours of mobs? there is Snowy Slowness flavour. Hot Hunger flavour. Wet Water flavour. Green Poison flavour. and possibly more!
Since I didn't follow things for so long my children have informed me that everything I love about Minecraft today came after Caves n' Cliffs. IMO is wasn't what I would consider a complete game until then. Frankly being built on java back then was not a mark of quality. Mojang needs to set goals, they need to listen to the fans when they do. But once started they just need to see their vision through instead of letting it be designed by committee. That's how we get things left half done. That why bedrock cookie clicker combat still exists. That's what's holding them back from making larger changes to keep the game interesting. It's almost like they really took Microsoft's mantra of backwards compatibly to far. For evidence of that look no further than the 'dungeons' A cobble box with a spawner. next to the trail chamber, it's embarrassing.
there are additional factors to the still unchanged combat system on bedrock. one of the key parts (mistakes, perhaps?) of java 1.9 was the off-hand system; the functionality of this system, in terms of allowing anything into the off-hand slot, relies heavily on the mouse (or a gamepad) as an input method and can't easily be ported to touchscreens, since the touchscreen control scheme uses a single tap for actions that have separate buttons on other platforms (such as placing blocks and attacking mobs). this is why the bedrock offhand slot is limited to certain items (shields, maps, arrows (to select arrow type if you have tipped arrows), and maybe something else i'm forgetting). it's also why it took so long for shields to come to bedrock, because the alternate action input on touchscreens is a held tap, which means a ~1 second delay to perform an action that needs to be instant and reflexive. (and so eventually, when shields were added, they instead had the behaviour to activate while crouching). i do agree that maybe the developers tread too carefully around the community, and that is still presumably a factor. the new combat system introduced in java 1.9 is far better (more interesting, fun and skill based) in my opinion, but it also received huge backlash at the time, and there's still a huge subset of players playing on 1.8 to this day for that reason. i wonder that the devs are afraid of the same backlash all over again when combat on bedrock is updated. that being said, the java team has (had?) the intention to make additional combat changes in the last few years, since the 1.9 system was a little half-baked (also in consideration of functionality on all input devices), so an update to bedrock combat may be waiting on java developers to provide their own improved combat system.
@@moontravellerjul IMO touch screens are a trash control scheme for most games that are not basic and click based. (they are trash for a lot of things.) The few that work well with it were designed from the ground up to be touch based. Minecraft was never going to be one of those things. Bedrock Minecraft is held back more that anything else because of that fact. It's a shame, because that trickles down to Java as well, (see bundles.) Bedrock could have been great, it's cleaner, it runs better. But micro-transactions stifle modding, and touch is to restrictive for a truly cross platform game. Look at how well that philosophy worked out for windows 8.
@@moontravellerjulit was neither fun nor skill based at release, this is from someone who played a lot of factions on 1.10 back in the day, there is practically no way to somewhat reliably beat another player without having better stuff or more players to attack him with There may be an argument for what it is now, but Mojang clearly didn't do a good job at it back then
- Red bricks are great! It's a "niche" block that you can't use as a main block for your your build (or can you?), but it can be great if used right. - Bone blocks are great! Awsome building blocks with a ton of uses! - Bears are cool! I would love Mojang to add a ton of different animals that make the world feel more alive, even if they do nothing. - Biome-specific mob variants is a GREAT idea! It's sad they didn't do this again, I wanna see different zombies, skeletons, creepers, and all the rest.
I always thought 1.10 was made so people would stop saying "is minecraft next update after 1.9 a 2.0?" + a quick update just before/during the microsoft thing.
I kind of remember 1.10 for the sole reason that when my minecraft crashed and I had opened the launcher a new release was available. Didn't it also include frost walker and like one other enchant or no? The only time when you remember that one is when dying to it bc it was on your boots when jumping off a tall place into water, that and in console edition, you could make ice farms even with flowing water which saved 0.2 seconds of your time
Remember 1.10 being an alright update. Liked the blocks, over what we got for 1.9. prefer red over purple. Don't think we had many nice red blocks at the time so it was nice to see more added. Bone Blocks were a nice addition too authough it's not the best block for making bone structures. It wasn't trying to be a big update, very inoffensive. I would say it ranks low due to more hated or controversial updates having more good features.
"it is widely known as one of the more controversial updates it's still not ported to bedrock" I only had to check the wiki and outside the combat changes and End Gateways Bedrock 1.10 released the rest of 1.9's feature set into bedrock so no most of 1.9 is in bedrock. people keep forgetting there was more than combat changes to have 1.9
yeah, nowadays 1.10 would be a minor update in some version, like 1.20.5 I think it was. its an awkward update from the earlier days where any edition to the game meant a new major update, with the points just for minor changes, like bug fixes, and that was fine for the older updates, but by that point in the game the major updates were bigger, so this small 'major' update is just out of place, even more so nowadays. its an awkward bump in the development road as the game grew, it just wasn't clear how to handle such a thing yet, and it seems making it a major update just didn't go over well, but having it a 1.9.something update would be weird, and holding off until 1.11 would've been a weird wait. and well that's just life, its a good addition, just a bit weird as a whole major update
@@meerkatmatrixthere IS a lot of love in minecraft (shown by the april fools updates) it's just that microsoft is so strict of what can be added and what can not that the updates are not that big anymore
The aquatic update was the part that broke my enjoyment of Minecraft because they discontinued Minecraft Xbox one edition and farce you to go to Minecraft bedrock edition when it was completely broken at launch!
1.10 wasn't just mediocre it was kind of fun to laugh at cuz like "oh wow we added some cold stuff and some hot stuff...frostburn update!" Buzzy bees at least had focus. I definitely feel like 1.10 is overhated for its small size and lack of focus, but they are sort of niche problems the update had
I wouldn't say 1.10 is a bad update. It'd be right at home among alpha or early beta updates, adding a sprinkling of fairly solid features, but compared to previous updates (1.5 thru 1.9), it was a bit of a nothing burger. And I've played JE since 1.5.
Mojang's biggest mistake is hiring the Aether mod creator yet having no plans on putting it in the game. I get why they can't and glad Kingbdogz is in the dev team (Warden is one of the best mobs ever added). But the Aether was to me the end game Minecraft needed and perfectly fitted the game. (you have the Nether and then the Aether which makes sense) The grandiose of it rivals Super Mario Galaxy, yet it still had the nostalgic simplicity of normal Minecraft. It is the greatest mod created. It's a shame everytime I play Bedrock I have to play without it.
Yeah, it would be cool if minecraft had a sky dimension, but nah, they have their reasons why and I understand it (kingbdogz even mentioned it in a podcast interview). It would be cool if they revamp the end to be as cool as the aether though
I as a player, want smaller updates. This way it is easier to remove certain features, not throwing everything into some huge package of features and giving it a name.
Toycat produces such great videos. They contain philosophies worded in a way so Minecrafters can under stand and cool background footage for people with an attention span of under two seconds.
Long time Java player, just switched to BR to play with some friends and old combat feels god awful, it's not even an argument. Shift to shield is CRIMINAL.
if I were to make a Minecraft update to list, I would put every update in S tear because no matter how bad an update is I will always love Minecraft! those updates get Minecraft one step closer to becoming the 100 year game Mojang has always wanted it to be, so no matter what happens to Minecraft we as it’s community would never let it become a dead game no matter what! We love you Minecraft❤
Microsoft’s acquisition was definitely the biggest mistake, due to the obscene corporatization that would slowly creep in like a cancer. But was there ever a good choice, or just bad versus worse? Minecraft is at least still incredibly popular, under any other company it very well could have died out and become fully abandoned.

Kudos! Very nice video, I want to see more indepths in mc history like this one!
As someone who always has a pet polar bear ASAP, I agree, sorta
I like polar bears, but god lord I won't excuse trashy content just because of a fluffy icy fella.
Fossils are maybe impossable unless you are under a desert. Diamond fossils are pretty handy... if you ever find one. Chunkbase allows people to actually find them.
They should have merged 1.10, 1.11 and 1.12 into a "Random stuff couldn't fit elsewhere update"
It's not bad. I hate creepers way more than anything else. At least phantoms don't blow your up builds over and over
yeah phantoms are overhated imo, if you really hate them, just carry a bed with you. Before people get mending and such, they're the only method of elytra repairing, as well as making slow fall pots.
its not even like theyre hard to kill, too
imagine how the community would react if creepers were added today
The best way to keep Creepers from blowing up your house is 1 pay attention and 2 build a wall around your base and light up the surrounding area
@@AlexanderBentley-w2d Dude they'd explode. Both literally and figuratively.
@@AlexanderBentley-w2d if you don't have mending before you get an elytra theres something seriously wrong with ur playing style
I like the legacy gameplay in the background! something about the movement and the graphics/lighting that has always been way better than java or bedrock
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the nostalgic background footage
so now mojang are giving us new flavours of mobs? there is Snowy Slowness flavour.
@@moontravellerjulit was neither fun nor skill based at release, this is from someone who played a lot of factions on 1.10 back in the day, there is practically no way to somewhat reliably beat another player without having better stuff or more players to attack him with
There may be an argument for what it is now, but Mojang clearly didn't do a good job at it back then
Out of curiosity, what is everything you love about Minecraft today?
- Red bricks are great! It's a "niche" block that you can't use as a main block for your your build (or can you?), but it can be great if used right.
- Bone blocks are great! Awsome building blocks with a ton of uses!
- Bears are cool! I would love Mojang to add a ton of different animals that make the world feel more alive, even if they do nothing.
- Biome-specific mob variants is a GREAT idea! It's sad they didn't do this again, I wanna see different zombies, skeletons, creepers, and all the rest.
I would argue that spiders can be considered “partially neutral,” as they are neutral until the sun sets
(This is definitely a bug)

I always thought 1.10 was made so people would stop saying "is minecraft next update after 1.9 a 2.0?" + a quick update just before/during the microsoft thing.
I personally didn't mind the small size much. Kinda an oldschool update vibe.
Idea: The freezer burn update
Add: Iceologers, wildfires, and more red nether brick varients.
1.15 was the lost important update ever because they fixed a ton of bugs. Minecraft needs more updates like this
I love every update and don’t dislike any of them.
I honestly thought that mushroom islands were added in 1.10 💀
I kind of remember 1.10 for the sole reason that when my minecraft crashed and I had opened the launcher a new release was available. Didn't it also include frost walker and like one other enchant or no? The only time when you remember that one is when dying to it bc it was on your boots when jumping off a tall place into water, that and in console edition, you could make ice farms even with flowing water which saved 0.2 seconds of your time
i strive for the comedic genius of this man
Remember 1.10 being an alright update.
I would say it ranks low due to more hated or controversial updates having more good features.
hey 1.10 is the best update, i use polar bears and strays ALL the time.. a fish farm and tipped arrow farm!!!
There’s probably better farms
What’s weird is 10 updates later and 1.20 is still a small update
They need to put more love into minecraft
They already put a ton of love into it
@@boomblok_ I need more love put into it lol
I don't doubt that there is love, there's just not enough effort
Microsoft needs to stop micro managing everything
@@meerkatmatrixthere IS a lot of love in minecraft (shown by the april fools updates) it's just that microsoft is so strict of what can be added and what can not that the updates are not that big anymore
The aquatic update was the part that broke my enjoyment of Minecraft because they discontinued Minecraft Xbox one edition and farce you to go to Minecraft bedrock edition when it was completely broken at launch!
I honestly forgot fossils have been a thing in the overworld and theyre pretty much 8 years old now. Bruh
I want to ve honest, i never though that 1.10 was hated so much by the community
(you have the Nether and then the Aether which makes sense)
The grandiose of it rivals Super Mario Galaxy, yet it still had the nostalgic simplicity of normal Minecraft.
Tbh i stopped caring about MC and moved over to Vintage Story after i stumbled onto it it has everything i wanted in MC and more .
I as a player, want smaller updates. This way it is easier to remove certain features, not throwing everything into some huge package of features and giving it a name.

I love seeing legacy console creative gameplay behind my toycat rants
I have never, in the 8 years they are in the game, seen a fossil in game
Yeah, 1.10 is B-tier for me, because I love husks and strays.
I would've been hard-pressed to tell you what update they came from though.
I like Husks because they don’t burn in the daylight, which can be pretty useful.
Yes because strays, worse than phantoms imo
Toycat produces such great videos. They contain philosophies worded in a way so Minecrafters can under stand and cool background footage for people with an attention span of under two seconds.
1:16 false. 1.16 patch notes mention "Removed Herobrine" as well
1.9 imo is still one of the coolest updates, probably on or around the same level as 1.16
Anyone else thought that this was a new update video? just me?
Long time Java player, just switched to BR to play with some friends and old combat feels god awful, it's not even an argument. Shift to shield is CRIMINAL.
You CAN actually craft Magma Blocks with a 2x2 of Magma Cream
1.10 was a great update! It was the one that structure blocks were added!
quick fact, that was the first update i played at
if I were to make a Minecraft update to list, I would put every update in S tear because no matter how bad an update is I will always love Minecraft! those updates get Minecraft one step closer to becoming the 100 year game Mojang has always wanted it to be, so no matter what happens to Minecraft we as it’s community would never let it become a dead game no matter what!
I wish people would see how boring a winter biome would be without striders or polerbars
I play i bit in the winter and since the dog update i need a huskie and without them mobs in the winter biome it would be boring just like everywhere else but with snow
Me and my friend have a winter wastland map and only striders spawn sometime a fantom will spawn but its nice not dealing with creapers
Just wish snow didn't biuld up so fast had to start a farm when you cant keep the snow off it
I just want a polished andesite wall.
i was really into minecraft console when the update came out and i remember loving the update and it being one of my favorites, but looking back it was pretty darn mid
The building the background is mesmerising

Did this RUclips video just transport me to an Aunt venom RUclips video?
i think their biggest mistake was allowing themselves to be bought by mycroissant
Microsoft needs to quit trying to force Minecraft to be this corperate parity-driven money making scheme. It's already crazy profitable. Let the dang people make stuff without tons of corperate demands
