Thank you so much for sharing your story, Andrew. Not being afraid to show your vulnerability is definitely a sign of strength, and what you discuss here is just proof that we are all human and have some sort of affliction that we must manage each day.
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2015 and had to go through some trials in the mental health sense before I finally realized I wasn't well and sought help. There were definitely times before the diagnosis where I lost motivation to do even the most simple things. Also, the "own worst ememy" aspect you talk about was something I fell into when I started experiencing the disorder--I would overthink to the extreme and misread people's actions.
You are not alone in your management of depression. If you choose to do further blogs of this personal nature, you clearly have a legion of support here (including me). :)

Wow, thank you for sharing with me! Like I’ve said before, it’s incredible how even though many of us who suffer from these things feel alone, there’s actually so many of us how all feel very similar. I think it’s important that every realizes we all have struggles, big or small, that affect us every day. I think we collectively need to start understanding that.

Wow, I missed my Dr appt just so I could listen to this. I get you Art. Listening to you describe what your feeling and going through was if you were describing what I'm going through to a tee. I don't have any friends either and low self esteem. I don't feel joy anymore . I do enjoy your videos though and they take me back to better times. I was in High school durring the eighties. You have alot of fans...I'm one of them.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I would definitely suggest going to see someone, first of all. Having a professional diagnose you with something is the first step in treating it. There are many types of depression and depression-like illnesses. Many people say what they will about medications, but there are many you can try if one does not do well. It doesn't hurt to try as you can't feel much worse than you already do (that's supposed to be encouraging.) I appreciate you message, thank you so much! Here's to better and brighter days!

Depression, I've always called it a perpetual motion machine because I've never met something that could fuel itself so efficiently. I almost didn't make it out of the 90s myself because of severe clinical depression. I went into a place that it took me years to escape and you also have to take into account the time period, that it was nowhere near as accepted and understood as it is now and the treatments were also less available. I don't know if you ever truly escape it or if it's just one of those things that once seen cannot be unseen. It's like you've met a monster and that monster intends to hang around in the corners of the room so from that point on your goal is to just keep it in its cage.
Although not as bad, I have continued to battle it off and on since that time.
As it does with you, at times it rips away the interest in doing things I love and it turns into this internal battle between myself and myself.
If I can say one thing of it, in the decades since it first happened to me I've met many others who have suffered the same fate and what a vast and creative collection of individuals we are.
It will often feel like it, but you are never alone.

I don't know why I'm just seeing this. Could've sworn I responded to you, but your comment just showed up in my not-yet-replied. I still deal with the effects day-to-day. Some days more than others. I think overall my mood has improved. This channel has definitely had a lot to do with it. It gives me at least one thing to look forward to each week and keep my mind occupied.

I've had a brush with depression myself, although mine wasn't persistent. I hope you take care of yourself, man. Depression can be rough.

Hi Andrew. I am so proud of you for sharing your struggle with depression. I understand what you are saying as I too have been diagnosed with depression but about 30 plus years ago. I have always been impressed with you and I still am. Love and hugs to you always. Your words helped me because even at my age it is good to have someone that you can relate to. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This year I experience the darkest depression I’ve ever felt. I also felt suicidal for the first time in my life. The mental and emotional pain and suffering was just unbearable. I started listening to this audiobook called The Power Of Now. It has helped me tremendously. My mind has quieted and the unconscious self attacking has diminished significantly!
I’m a nurse and I also highly recommend medication and therapy.
Thank you so much for sharing this video!

Well I got to tell you that you really do "get" the 80's. I didn't think there was anything lame or funny about the 80's ,
well not until you showed me there was. I think you would have liked it. I was
14 in 1980. Amazing talk about your struggles with depression btw. I also struggle exactly how you described. Funny, I used to hate ppl that were happy...still do. I wanted that so much for myself you know.
