UNDERPREPARED for UNEXPECTED PORTUGAL! 🇵🇹 - First impressions of Van Life Portugal.
After our long drive road tripping across Europe, this week we finally make it to Portugal. With this trip being completely unplanned we didn't really know what to expect, but as we wild camp our way towards southern Portugal and the Algarve, we start to get a sense of what van life in central Portugal is like.

The roman under floor heating is called hypocaust. Basically there's a fire and the heat is channelled under the floor and up channels in the walls.
Geothermal baths? I’d build by hot springs.
Sorry but I'm tempted to ask...what did the Romans ever do....Great video girls and such a great country! I had a two week holiday in 2010 and did a couple of mini road trips, even stayed in a Pousada, one of the heritage places you can stay, often old palaces or castles, amazing. Following your adventures with tons of interest. Keep calm and keep adventuring!!

I'm sure I started following u about 2 years ago because u were in Portugal, Monsanto go to the top of the village and keep right ,it's a cobbled street up to the castle, left and it's rough and rural, just like I took, and u, when I visited. You cinematography of landscape as you travel is the best and so informative although short, I think that's what pulled me to u in the first place. I have not followed u for a long time. But u are gripping, and such a lovely couple, thankyou ❤

If you are travelling back up through France this week watch and not get stuck in one of the French farmer blockades. We got stuck in one in Bordeaux today for 4 hours while heading down to Lisboa

North Portugal landescape is diferent as South. If like to have amazing view about Capital Lisbon cross old bridge 25 April direction Almada city. Under bridge you have amazing river Tejo. Go Christ king statue enjoy drive safety best Regards

13:03 Not rinsing after washing up. This is the one and only major culture shock I've faced in Ireland. American raised, living in Ireland now 7 years (via over 20 years living in other places outside the US) and the not rinsing after washing up it still shocks me.
And I'll never be won over, always gonna rinse. LOLOLOLOL!
😂😂 I do rinse, unless we are super low on water or quickness for filming. I always rinse glasses but sometimes do forget the plates 😂🙈🤫

I love Portugal. Such a beautiful country. Check out Evora if you get chance. Its in the Alentejo which is super hot in summer but should be a lot cooler this time of year 😀
It’s so funny that you should be talking about the Roman heating system today. My husband just found a bit of hyper cause tile in the field this very afternoon. The pillars of tiles you saw would have had a floor on top and the hot air ran through under the floor and up hollow box tile flues in the walls to create the heating in the rooms! So you would have under floor and in wall heating. Heat would come from a furnace at one end of the system!

With all that mist & fog, it looks more like Portsmouth than Portugal.
My husband and I fell in love with Portugal and bought a 200 year old farmhouse in the north of Portugal (Castelo do Penalva ) and lived in a caravan for 7 years while renovating the place. The Portuguese people are so lovely and have welcomed us into the community. You can find some stunning old buildings to renovate which are at a reasonable price. Loving your videos and have been a subscriber for a long time. Best of luck with the new property in Ireland.

First time in a van on the Portuguese Toll Roads was a complete nightmare for us. Confused by the signage, failed to pick up a ticket, and drove perhaps a €5 distance. At the off ramp we obviously couldnt work the barriers. Intercoming with control, they couldnt believe how stupid we were, and charged us the full rate, despite protestations from us. €70 later we left the toll road and never made that mistake again !!!! GREAT ADVICE ON THE INTERNET PAYING SYSTEM, beware or pay the costs 😮😢.

Good morning my lovelies, Having coffee and trying Pains An Chocalat for the first time. Every time y'all go through France and get these I have been intrigued so I went to Aldi and picked some up. Absolutely delcious, although I am sure they are better in France lol. Love the travels and hope you always stay safe and have the best times. Much love from the panhandle of Florida.

Portugal was the last big international trip I took, and I love it so much. Your video brought back a lot of great memories, even though it's through a different part of the country than we visited.
Mine too…8 weeks and would go back in a second….so friendly, so green, a real adventure….and felt like I was meeting like-minded travellers 😊

So basically there is a floor suspended above the brick pillars. To one side of the building they light a fire and the hot air circulates in the space below the floor somehow. Thus the building is heated. Amazing for their time in history. The Romans also invented the flushing toilet apparently!!!!! Clever people!!!!

🇵🇹 😎🌧Portugal is such a varied country...I've been housesitting around Portugal for nearly 3 years and every region, even areas within the regions are so different. The variety in weather and landscape is unbelievable. I finally settled in the Minho region up North! ⛰ 🌊

The Roman hypo-caust heating system involved having an extremely big fire from which hot exhaust gasses were pulled through stone ducting under the floor to exit via a chimney which was drawing air up on the other side of the property. Basically it was hot air ducting before its time.
No two minute tour? I was watching David John's (@Vandemonium/@CruisingTheCut) tour of his campground and commented that he should have done a "Two Minute Tour" (a la Emily running around gasping😆😉). I think Louise needs to install passenger grab handles for Emily to get in and out of "Fanny". (We call them "Bejesus Handles" around here because they are for nervous passengers to grab and yell "Bejesus! Slow down! Watch where you're going!")

Might I make a suggestion re getting stuck in mud. I would suggest you invest in a pair of tyre chains, they work equally well in mud as in snow

i was told when learning that third gear was the breaking gear for steep hill descending.
