"This is my worst nightmare.." - The Van Life Tourist. (Van Life Europe)
This week our escape south for some winter sun really gets underway as we make it to the Algarve in Southern Portugal. We go to one of the busiest and biggest campsites in Albuferia, one of the Algarve's main tourist hotspots. After 4 years of wild camping this many vans all in one place is my worst nightmare, but it can't be that bad can it?

I made the mistake of creating a zip wire with my winch for the 2 grandkids to entertain themselves.
30 minutes later they had 8 new friends and I had a worn out snatchblock.

I came for the van life travelling, I stayed for Louise gossipping, admiring, rejecting, wondering, calculating, speculating and in general enjoying herself around the camping site 🙂
I’m sitting here at 1am, massaging my face because I think I’ve damaged it, smiling at you two.
You remind me so much of my beloved and myself, when we were younger. When Emily went up on tiptoes for a kiss, it was like watching us, even today. Mrs still does that, after over 30 years!
I’m so glad I found you two. You give me reasons to be happy, even in the deepest darkest depths of winter, when reasons to be happy are in short supply.

Thing is, you have all this stuff - the BBQ, the moon-chairs, the table, the hammocks, the awning etc - and when you're overnighting you just don't need to use ANY of it so it's nice to be able to stop for a few days, spread out and play with all the cool toys.
And, let's face it, £15 a night for a site with all the facilities - in winter - is a bloody bargain.

We have been following your recent adventures over the past few months, as well as catching up with your back catalogue - we are just at the point of a poorly Fanny being trailered back to the UK! So, in this video, it was great to see you both having some R&R, ahead of, what we expect to be, the big Irish renovation. We love your videos, and despite the 'bickering', you are OBVIOUSLY made for each other! The vids are really entertaining and superb quality - a great mix of adventure, trials and tribulations of everyday life, amazing scenery, and a couple who are absolute naturals. Oh, and snacks - we love food, too! We look forward to the next instalment, as well as seeing how your Fanny fairs! 😊😊
Lou, you managed to settle into the grumpy dad campsite persona perfectly. “No shoes on the ground sheet……MIND the guy ropes round the tents” etc. if you didn’t already have the fridge you could become really invested in setting and recovering your ice packs from the communal campsite freezer!

I went to that marina in October! The colourful houses are so fun to look at, did you see the train that goes past too? Like a little colourful tourist train on the road. We did one of the cave and dolphin boat tour, it was brilliant. Would recommend!

Love seeing that campground. My husband and I lived full-time in a motorhome for 14 years. We traveled all over the United States and Canada. There are some campgrounds here in the states that are like the one you are in. I didn’t convert the money, but I think the one you’re in is cheaper than anything you can get here. We also have beautiful resorts that are quite restrictive. Some where the sites are all on concrete and are all full hook ups. After Covid, so many people have moved into a motorhome so they could travel while we were under lockdown, and after they continue to do so, and the campgrounds are now extremely crowded all the time. Some campgrounds took 50% of their sites and turned them into year-round rentals. My husband passed away in 2016 so I do not RV anymore but when I was doing it most of the places we stayed restricted you to no more than two weeks at a time unless you bought the site. Nowadays, you have to make reservations almost a year in advance because of so many people on the road. I love watching your videos and seeing places I will never get to and how it is to live across the pond. Wonderful to see two people enjoying life so much as the two of you do. Stay safe.
It’s crazy, a lot of yeh site back home are like that as well since covid, prices have shot right up and in the summer you got no chance of a last minute booking for sure

Loved this, we normally avoid large campsites but this seems so relaxed, plus the washing and dryers are great. Thanks for showing us around, you two are fabulous!!!😍

The pubs and paddlehalls are just compensation for the fact that you also wash the things and clean up the "house"
And as Introvert as I am, you can meet some fun people at campsites and have as much company from them as you want.

Staying in campsites is my worst thing. But I can see why you are enjoying it and what good value it is especially for an extended stay, the robbing sods in the UK could learn a lot from Portugal and Spain.

Perfect timing for this 5 minute tour, I'm heading to the Tunnel on Friday and then heading for Camping Albufeira, and the vets near by to get my new mutt a european passport.

Hello ladies! Welcome to the huge camping sites with "permanent" campers! And Albufeira is one of them! They're commun in Portugal and Spain! In summer it's total madness with the crowds, barbecues, and whatsoever! I avoid to stay in places like that, but it's my weird way of being! However, they have very good facilities and amenities, relatively good for what is offered. Have a nice time! Enjoy!

We have a lot of van parks in Australia that have what we call ‘permanents’ where they are used for holidays or some people like full time. They are quite the amazing in some places. Love the vids ❤

I love Albufiera but when I went there they had just had their worst floods ever and the Square had been under 8 feet of water and they were saving people out of the water so all the bars were closed gutted
Ohhh, so many good things in that, including a bit of "spice" near the end (thank you from the pit). Your comment about British campsites made me wonder, do you have government run campgrounds? Because, here in Canada, we have THREE types of campgrounds: Federal (government) campground/parks, Provincial (more government) campground/parks, and private campgrounds. The government campgrounds have a LOT of rules, but they have a lot of land to hike and scenic locations. The private campgrounds may not have any rules and probably have no hiking/scenic locations. And most of the campers(caravans) are frickin' HUGE! Can't wait to see your reaction WHEN you finally make it across the pond.
You folks do make me smile and I even find myself laughing out loud at times. 👍
Al those rules on Caravan & Motorhome Club sites are really annoying and really a lot of them not justifiable at all. We camped in 5 different countries, never had any problems with our set up. Until we went to England. The club sites simple do not allow us because we have two pop-ups for our teenagers. We were baffled by this, because I didn't think there would be any teenager in the world willing to share a tent or caravan with mom and dad, but apparantly there are and they are British... So we learned to stay away from club sites and fortunately privately owned sites are much more friendly and welcoming. (mind you pitch size is not the problem, we have a tiny teardrop and all together we take up less space than the average family tent)
