    My mom was diagnosed with ALS in 2020 and I moved back home to take care of her. She lost her voice, her body, everything. Completely paralyzed except for the eyes. A couple months before she passed in my arms, we took her to the park in her wheelchair. There was a very small hill and I hopped on the back and we rolled down the hill, not very fast at all, but when we did, my mom let out a loud yell, but not one of anguish that we were so used to, but excitement. She had the biggest smile on her face and we laughed together for a short while. That was the last time I heard my mom happy. It's incredible the power of adrenaline. God bless everyone involved in this doc. Gotta come back and cry happy tears to it every once in a while.

      Lost my mom not to ALS but to brain cancer ...she died within 6 months and I too saw her decline from a healthy vibrant person to not being able to walk or get out of bed ....my mom passed in February 2019 at 51 ...I wish I could say it gets easier but it never does ....u just learn to live with that emptiness inside ....
      I moved back with my mom to take care of her as well and I admire the fact that u did ....that's what us kids are supposed to do ...our moms sacrificed and took care of us the least we can do is return the favor ....I appreciate the cool story and it made me smile and think of my mom ...hope ur doing good and I wish u all the best ... cheers 🥂

    I can so relate.. I'm a former bank robber and after prison none would hire me,plus I stayed drunk...but then something happened..I realized the party was over( I'm one of the lucky few that even survived morphine addiction as well).. living on the streets means the longer your there means the more your ok with it...but somehow I met a beautiful young lady 5 yrs younger and she brought me to her place...I cleaned up ( took many years) and now I manage a fkn cash register at a pay lake and I can fish every day if I want and my p.b. this year was a 52 lb cat fish. I even have a 2 story home on the river now.. sometimes miss my homeless friends and late night drinks but I don't miss the hard job it was just to survive day to day...it's a hard hard hard way to live at the pleasure of freedom is what takes us back...so now my freedom comes with working hard.grilling bbq chicken for my kids and teaching them how to fish ans as a bonus I've got a wonderful woman I can snuggle with at night...the movie so hit home....thanks to all who contribute to this film..it hit home and brought a tear ....hope those guys are doing well or atleast at peace...ide love to drop them off a few beers and some smokes just to show my appreciation!!!..

      @themurderofcoke 4 года назад +9

      That is more human than our robotic lives fixing a false "professional" persona for others we don't care about in the slightest. Professional working life is incredibly artificial on every level, very few people are the exact same at work as they are at home. Having products does not make you a human being. I have a gaming PC, 4K TV, a decent bed, a decent house and all sorts of stuff, like most people, yet like many, I feel more human and alive when climbing a mountain or camping, without all my toys and tech and comforts. We do not have a lot of choice to be in this world - this is one of the other options, so most of us commit to it in hopes of a better future, but who doesn't hope for a future where they don't need to go to work? To retire comfortable after a long life of hard work. To be able to be human again.

      If you live in the constraints of society and discover the systemic corruption then you are no longer welcome and all you know no longer wanna know you!! They assist those a part of those agencies, the hive mentality, either one of them or against them and they are truly evil vile low vibrational entities that feed off humanity. Those that willingly allow the torment, murder and suffering of innocent children to ensure a wage, perk or career are abominations and those that fight to save their own are slandered, targeted, prevented from being employed, made homeless and harassed by all within the societal agencies. The devils in the details and everywhere else and if you have integrity, moral code then you do not belong. When they claim to serve and protect, for safety, it is the exact opposite. They protect their own, not the children nor the masses, they protect their way of ensuring their high paying job, that is made off the suffering of the most vulnerable the innocent children and then the woman. Satan's world but his time is soon up and he will burn for eternity! So having one friend is being rich, because all mine sold me out, not a single one gave me a heads up just turned and assisted those with an agenda. God is the only friend and the only one we can count on! Praise God

      @GaslitWorld f. Melissa B Worse they are a secret society and this world belongs to Lucy and all the jobs created are filled by nepotism and any integrity and morale code is not welcomed. The killed or be killed narrative has those that are willing to kill view those who refuse as inferior yet the complete opposite is true. To sacrifice for the greater good is the only hope for humanity to survive or we will destroy both this planet and all life!! All need to rise up and stop accepting heinous acts against those that are most vulnerable, stop allowing those at the top to control the Masses. Those feeding the lusts of the flesh without examining their consciousness and those that get others to do their dirty work know they will answer so they ensure that their hands are clean by ordering others with full knowledge free will and the Universal law of No Harm!

      Its tough to be homeless? Then why do people do it to themselves. People chose to be homeless the moment they start taking serious drugs or drinking too much. So it is not like it is thrust upon these people and they do not have choices.

    • @VestigialHead
      @VestigialHead 5 лет назад

      @Joseph Bennett Yes the people who are homeless from the Hurricane brought it on themselves. If you build or buy a badly constructed non hurricane proof home then that was your choice. You might say oh but that is all they could afford. Yep that is also their choice. If you want a bigger home you get a higher paying job, you budget and save and not pig out, drink, gamble etc. You buy quality home insurance so you are not homeless if your house is destroyed.
      So people make their own destiny.
      Hey I am not saying it is easy to get ahead but many many people do it. Not just the ones born into money. In fact it is considered the American Dream and is why the majority of immigrants move to the US. I am not American by the way.

    This is the most soulful documentary that I've ever watched. It was truly touching. Certain scenes transported me right back to times when I was younger, before the life had been drained out of me. This also reminded me of me and my friends, past and present. How free you can feel while doing what you love, hanging out with your friends and dwelling in the bush. I miss those times, however it's made me recall these memories in such a fond way. These memories, I've previously pushed from my mind in favour of forgetting the fact that it's all in the past now, but for some reason I see them in a different light after watching this. Those memories now remind me that a life like that happened, that it was possible and that it still is. Life is to be appreciated and cherished. I should - and I can - have fun with what I do again. This documentary was a great reminder of that.
    The people featured in the documentary (everyone featured, including the filmmaker) are wiser than anyone would know. Truly beautiful human beings with beautiful souls. I truly wish the best for them. They've reminded me of some pretty important things which I've forgotten about after sitting around for years during quarantine. I wish I could personally thank them. What this documentary has made me realise is that no matter how old I get, no matter what happens to me or no matter what comes my way, I can always get back the life and soul that used to fill me. I can still enjoy my life, not everything has to be dull just because of the bad things that have happened to me. Thank you for reminding me.
    A random RUclips recommendation has made me realise all this. Haha, life works in funny ways sometimes. That's why life is so good I suppose.

  • @GobyTSB
    @GobyTSB 6 лет назад +166

    I randomly decided to watch this and I have to say its hands down one of the best documentaries I ever seen. It's such a random subject at least to me, but the overall video was exceptionally made from the choice of music, the narration and the production.
    The people in this video are all sincerely good spirited kind people. The creator of this film did such a good job on allowing the people in the video to be themselves at all times while at the same time respecting their lifestyle choices. Every person in this film seemed like legit good people down to their very core. Also ty for not going into detail about that guys' criminal history and why he went to jail; it would've detracted from the overall message and direction of the video.
    Overall, this documentary to me states that no matter where you're from or how much money you have, life is always what you and you alone make of it.
    Again, exceptional documentary. Overall I'd give it a solid 9/10 and would and will definitely be watching this again with others in the future.

      I grew up in North Van and am fortunate enough to still live here. I remember watching this documentary 10 years ago and running into Al with a few friends outside a bar a few years after it had come out. We told him how we loved the documentary and it made Al's face really light up. More recently I saw Al while I was driving and he was in a wheelchair. He didn't look good at all, and seemed to be in poor health. Made me feel quite sad...

      Al is not doing great. I work across the street from the bottle depot where he hangs he is in a wheelchair now, strangely it started out by choice but then kind of because a self fulfilling prophecy, he's in it all the time now. He also is often not that coherent. Sad to see, I used to enjoy talking with him. Haven't seen him in several months, I think he is at the other bottle depot now.

    This is right up there with those Louis Theroux docs, but way better produced, and a more compassionate and stark feeling. I connected so much with the themes of loss, freedom, and the things that trap us in this life. This isn't just the best documentary on RUclips. This might be the best documentary of a generation. It's inspiring, heartbreaking, heartwarming and challenging. Congratulations on your return to film making.
