    Good idea Max! I use the 2 blade 42 inch Hustler. I learned that I could interchange the Husqvarna blade spindles which have zerk fittings, but the spindles have a male 5 pt star which can only accept Husqvarna blades which are 1/2 inch too long. I had a machinist mill off the "star" and leave a "shoulder" to fit the smaller bolt. I also removed the bearings' inner seals so the spindle grease would penetrate the bearing interiors. A cheaper simpler fix would have been to install zerks in the side of the old Hustler spindle housings. So far, so good, but I've only used the new system once.
    Bad Boy blade spindles have zerk fittings but you have to remove the inner bearing seals. I wish I had thought to simply just temporarily remove the upper bearing seal, drill 2 or 3 small holes in the seal, and reinstall that "holey seal", so as to retard the hot grease from dripping out of the upper bearing.

    • @MaxsGarajMahal
      @MaxsGarajMahal  4 года назад

      Great job of modifying your spindles. At some point, I will pull off my spindles, try to figure out how to install some flat washers inside the spindle housing close to each bearing so as to not have to put half a tube of grease inside the spindle housings when greasing the bearings.
      Removing the inner seals. Drill and tap the spindle boss in two locations close to the bearings in order to direct the grease into the bearings.
      That should make for a decent video.
      By the way, do you still have your original spindle housings? If so, do you remember if there is any spare meat between the bearings to do what I'm thinking?
      Thanks in advance,
      Max

    • @IggyDalrymple
      @IggyDalrymple 4 года назад +1

      @@MaxsGarajMahal Yes, there is quite a bit of empty space between the two bearings. Not sure if cylindrical so washers will fit. Personally I wouldn't worry about the "one time" extra grease because it shouldn't leak out and the extra grease should make it run cooler. The advantage of the Husqvarna spindles is that the zerk is at the top of the hollow spindle making the zerk easily accessible. If you added your own zerk to a Hustler spindle housing, it would be below the belt pulley making it harder to reach. If you have 3 blades, the center spindle will be harder to reach, but maybe you could cut an access port in the foot rest. Below is the link to buy Husqvarna spindle, but remember you must have male "5 point star" milled off with shoulder to fit Hustler blade. The zerk is just inside the upper nut.

    hello, Have you used this oil pan on an actual vehicle where the oil drops faster, does it overfill? thank you. is the lid solid for transport?

    • @MaxsGarajMahal
      @MaxsGarajMahal  Год назад +1

      I have used it on several machines. I have not used it on a 5 quart pan. I've used on 3 quart pans and it did fine. I fill it until it is full to the bottom of the threads, then carry it to the pickup, then to Advance Auto Parts along with about 8 other storage devices I carry all at once.
      I've enjoyed it very much.

      @@MaxsGarajMahal Thank You! My truck is 6 quarts. I think it should work well. The pan I have overfills and has a bigger surface to clean after then the lid is so cheap, barely holds, and goes over if tightened a bit too much 😵‍💫 Switching to this one. Thanks for the videos. The 7 quart one is ridiculously expensive, so, that's why I want to make sure,,,

    • @MaxsGarajMahal
      @MaxsGarajMahal  Год назад +1

      @@projet2907 I wish you well with it. I used to do something similar to this pan back in my race shop days. I would use a 1 gallon anti-freeze jug, plastic weld two lids together, cutting the centers out of them, screw one onto the pan, the other I used the gallon jug with the bottom cut out to make a large, easy to hit 'funnel'. Well, that worked until a guest came in and I let him change his oil. He broke the lids apart making a rather large and nasty oil clean up.
      Then I made a metal adapter which I think you can buy now days. I'm talking back in the late eighties to early nineties when I left my machine shop to run our other businesses. So, point is, you can virtually make the pan a 6 gallon tank for temporary drain, then you have to pour out the upper gallon which isn't hard at all. Just make sure you pour off enough to be below the pan's lid threads. Then unscrew the jug letting it drain into another container. Once you have a couple of containers filled, go get rid of it or use the oil to feed your diesel unites or heaters.
      Let me know how it works out for you and what you used.
      Thanks for watching!

    Nice try hopefully there's no paper towel blocking a oil journal inside the engine. Next time you drain your oil give yourself an hour to complete the drain and stop using paper towels, use shop rags or blue mechanic towels from Sam's. That oil drain you took out was an ideal method to drain oil, keeps the engine platform from getting cluttered. Other wise use the manufactured recommendations for everything until the warranty runs out. A oil analysis would void if the proper oil was not used.☹

      Concur. However the cost of paper towels, shop rag washing in the family washing machine, etc. is both expensive and the hose will last forever pretty much or more than likely longer than the engine so overall it is a good investment to save your floor, cost of oil absorbents, towels, soap and water, your hands, etc.

      It was over revved trying to shoot a photo of my face for the Zenni and Payne Glasses Manufacturing. Broke the bottom case out where the monitor mounts to the laptop. While it was at it, when trying to gently close the lid, the lid frame decided to join the bottom case in breaking as well. Life is always fun when things happen.
      At least it wasn't a hand or foot I broke. haha

      Two ways to get it off. One and easiest is to break off the spout. Unscrew it. Second is to loosen all the bolts on the engine, jack up the engine and even then the clutch will only allow a bit that is close. Unscrew it. Drop the engine back into place, line up the bolt holes, get the bolts down thru the holes, install washers and nuts. Tighten.
      Screw the hose in place. Done deal.
      Thanks for watching.
