- Plymouth police are sending a strong message to a so-called "middle school bicycle gang" that consequences are coming if they keep up with their antics. WBZ-TV's Tiffany Chan reports.
The parents are 100% responsible for what their kids are doing whether at home or out in public. This is 100% the parents fault.
Librul voters are the parents of these ever dependent usual suspects. You voted for policies that delivered them to your town. Enjoy!

A $20 ticket is not a deterrent. Impounding their bikes and a criminal mischief charge is a better idea. Kicking a car is destruction of property. Having to hire an attorney for your child and time off work for court dates make more of an impact on their parents. And getting them to community service every week adds even more headache.
And we should take your car away if you run a stop sign, or speed, right?

I am a white, conservative male who is tired of watching numerous news story after news story about kids committing adult crime, seemingly en masse. But this story does not sound like an out of control crime problem. Should the city enforce dangerous riding. Yes. But it seems like the city CAN work with the kids and their parents and even offer a solution like how cities build skate parks. They can have a place for these kids to show off AND stay out of the city doing it. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to have all the local kids educated in earlier grades how to ride responsibly when and if they do ride into commercial areas with slow traffic traveling on 2 lane roads with stores on both sides. Again, enforce the laws about dangerous riding there but promote a solution where the kids can do stunts in other areas. Heck, that older gentleman seems to enjoy watching them, and I am sure there are others. The way he described his interactions with the kids does not sound like these are very 'bad' kids, but rather nice kids.

How are supposedly a bunch of old people seeing this but cops haven't? Just place another cop or two in the area & it'll stop because obviously these kids are going to do it in front of the cops. Instead of cash ticketing the kids, give their parents a requirement for them & their kids to attend a bike, pedestrian & road safety class. (Or have the schools do this.) These kids need something positive to do with their time...they don't need a juvenile criminal history.

I remember Plymouth before Algonquin heights. That place was the beginning of the end for Plymouth. I remember them bussing in the people no one wanted in their community. Glad i left a long long time ago.

When I grew up in Plymouth there was a law in that town that bicyclists could not ride on the sidewalks. Is that law still on the books? If so, is it enforced?

This is the result of the GOP cutting education spending from 12% to 3%. No afterschool programs except maybe sports. Parents are still at work. What do you expect the kids to do. Hide in their houses so you do not have to see or hear them? Are we not supposed to be encouraging them to get out and exercise? How easy would it be to start a few programs at your schools to engage them there? Bikes are the problem, then setup bike races and other related activities. Put that into a positive instead of criminalizing kids being kids.

When I was a kid we ride around with five or six sometimes only two or three of us on our bicycles and we would ride on the streets and Roads and have fun Without Really breaking any law. Back in the fifties and sixties there weren't a bunch of laws saying you couldn't ride your bike on the sidewalk. Well maybe there were but nobody concerned themselves with them. If all these kids are doing is riding around on bicycles let them be. They could be organizing theft rings, dealing drugs, or committing a dozen other crimes. I've been there, I've done that, but I'm 71 years old come tomorrow , and I would still ride a bike around with a bunch of other kids if I could. Let the children play, it will make good citizens healthy citizens out of them. Tell him I'm old fogies to get a rocking chair and stay on their porch.
