I remember my dad showed me how this works when I was 7. For weeks he practiced... He was always away. We hardly ever saw him. Then one day, BAM. He snap changed families, and now I see him every other weekend and on alternating holidays
Have you ever considered doing a mini series where you take an average person with little to no skills and train them over like a 60 or 90 day period and document their progression? Would make a cool video series. Yes im interested and available to learn :)
first of all: thanks chris! your explainations are always the best second: for those who practicing - the light touch of index and middle finger is the most important thing to stress here. if you grab too hard it won't work no matter how hard you try
@@fizzycola1232 Watch slowly how Chris performs it. I had to take a few breaks during the day when I was practicing it, but do something different every time you mess up and eventually you'll find the right motion and hand placement.
Nice to see an in-depth tutorial on the snap change done right! Also really appreciate that you give credit and some back story in you videos! Thanks for the content Chris!
The best thing about Ramsey's channel is how technically useful his teachings are, as well as how diverse and original his content is, along with high quality editing. Definitely an example of a lot of good things coming together.
Chris your skills boggle me, man thank you so much for your generous sharing! I learned this move from a J.C. Wagner video about 25 years ago. An original and well-misdirected routine I use is (following the horizontal 'flick' style snap change) - with my right hand, immediately spin the [second/selected] card up about 2 feet and catch it - at my eye level just to my right. Simultaneously the deck (in my left hand, with the [first/wrong] card now replaced on top) is turned bottom to the spectator as left hand ends pointing to my temple, my mouth agape and eyes wide and a-buggin'. Freeze. The patter goes, "This'll drop your jaw....this'll bug your eyes... this'll knock your socks off...you wearin' socks?.." Look down towards their socks, chuckle, look up, then flick/snap… astonishment! Credit Doc Eason for the 'knock your socks off' line.
You know, if I'm ever gonna turn out to be a decent magician, more than fifty percent credit goes to you. The percentage may seem insignificant, but for me it's really important and I'm just grateful.... I'm sounding stupid and I guess it's normal for teens to sound stupid. Thank you so MUCH. It takes a big heart to reveal your tricks just like that. A big thank you from an Indian girl trying to master sleight of hand!
Chris, your tutorials have very important tips even for simple moves. This difference makes yours tutorials the best on RUclips! Keep the good work, thnks!
Hey Chris Before watching this video I knew how to do the snap change but I watched it anyway because I knew you would go more in depth with different handling and presentation of it so thank you
Dude! I can't believe you are into wing chun! That is my favorite kung fu. I have really enjoyed your videos the past couple of weeks. Keep up the good work. You have really helped me step up my cardistry and card magic. Thanks for everything.
I started cardestry due to your videos..and you said it alot here but any great magician will stress the clean up is just as if not more important that the trick. Much love from Alabama
Its late and you will probably never see this but I must say, Best snap tutorial ever. Been trying and trying but the results were terrible. after watching this I did the one finger hold and for some reason it all came together. no one else went over any trouble shooting either. Thanks a ton
Was that really Jesse Eisenberg's fault? Or the camera crew's? Hmm... When I perform the snap change (rarely) for someone, I could care less about if anyone else sees how it's done. I use comedy a lot, though, and say something like "That trick is only impressive to you" or "This was done using angles". I guess it's all how it's handled.
YcleptJohn David Letterman was known to be a gentle douche to guests that show off skills, though (as in he wouldn't insult a singer for singing, or a magician for magic, as it's their actual livelihood, but he'd knock an actor that sang/did tricks in a movie, if they did it irl later). In a jokey way, I mean; being the grouchy grandpa kinda became his 'thing' in his last decade or so. Did the audience see the card too, or are we just going off his own, highly questionable word?
I was sitting watching this video fiddling with my fingers and the cards then suddenly I a headed a snap sound so I looked up and realized I had done it perfectly, I haven’t done it again since!
Chis Ramsay i just want to let you know you have taught me every card trick i know. I just recently started watching your videos. You're an awesome teacher and illusionist Keep up the awesome work man!
I usually really like your tutorials but for this one since there are so many out there i wish you would have done something different. What i really loved was you gave a couple new perspectives on it and a way to clean it up that i haven't seen before. Keep up the Awesome videos!
I watched this as only the second explanation of this trick I have ever watched. Played it at 1/4 speed some moments and still could not see the snap. I already fooled my kids with it. My wife is getting annoyed at the flick as I practice, and I won’t show her until I perfect it! If you can snap your fingers, you can do this imperceptibly to a forward audience. Many thanks for this tutorial. You have a new subscriber.
Thank you so much Chris, I’m a 12 year old beginner magician and thanks to this video I learned the snap change in a couple of days. Your videos inspire me so much.
I used to use the snap change at the bar when I was asked for ID. I would change my debit card to my drivers licence. Bar staff love it. You're already one on one spectators. They aren't expecting anything so it sets you right up. Even scored a couple of drinks in my time.
I can't believe how quick and clean that snap at 2:00 was! I slowed down to .25x speed and went frame by frame. There's only ONE frame where you can see both cards at once and it even looks like a fever dream. frame 1: 4 card. Frame 2: Queen, with a blur of the 4. Frame 3: Just Queen.
Hey man, I just started with the "Magician" of the cards. Idk why I just want to be a real Jester at it I hope I get along witb you on that! Thx for all the tutorials! Cheers bud!

Another masking technique ive seen is blowing when you do the move instead of flicking it blow air really quick and it adds to the effect like waving your hand or flicking it. Also another cleanup ive always used was to reverse the motion back into one card after the trick bring your hands down and just reverse the motion back into a double. You learnt this is two days?
Patrick yeah I learned it in about a day, but I perfected it in like a week
@@jakelarosa5361 I learned the slipshift within a day. But perfecting it? Yet to do so. xD

I figure this is the only trick that I’ve mastered. Damn I feel like a badass magician even though I’m not
Still better than me. ;)
Knoppix nah there must be a trick that’s made for you to learn. And all you need to do is put in some time
Well done. How long dud it take to master? I don't think I've got the patience. Which sucks. Coz I hate feeling defeated.
Bro I suck soooo bad at magic, but Chris makes me feel like I can be good one day
Tried doing this all day until i realised my hands are simply too small...

Physics: 0
Jesse Eisenberg -1
