Best Fender American Vintage Telecaster?
This video is a shootout of the Fender American Vintage 64 (2012) vs an American Vintage Reissue 62 Custom (2009) vs an American Vintage 52 Telecaster (2014). I am playing through a Fender Silverface Princeton non-reverb (1977) with an original 10" Jensen (ceramic) speaker. For pedals, I am using a Boss SD-1 (1982), a Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner, and the Tube Screamer of my Ibanez UE 300 Multi-Effects. The Spring Reverb is coming from a Roland SRE-555 and the compression on the neck pickup is done by a Universal Audio LN1176 Anniversary Edition.

I have the '64 and I love it the most among my guitars. It was great comparison video, Thanks!
Thanks very much and enjoy your Tele :)
I have to go with the 64 as well. Better output and tone.
Awesome video---totally agree, that '64 sounded AMAZING!!!
Thank you!
I was quite surprised, I expected to like the 64 and 62 the most, in fact I much preferred the fuller and mellow sounding 52. The 60s guitars sounded noticeably thinner. Not in a bad way of course. Thanks for the video, really helped me.
Thanks. Glad I could help you out!
The 52 all the way long...
Nice video! I like the '64 a lot, but I don't get to choose. I'm getting a '62 in a private deal. Luckily I liked the sound of the '62 in your video as well. I agree, the '52 is more laid-back sounding, pleasant in its way, but I prefer the sound of the 60s ones.
Thanks and congrats on your 62. It is a great Tele!
Lovely comparison thanks for sharing. The Bridge 64 hands down but in mid and neck 62 to my ears. Having said that they all sounded really nice in their own way.
I had the MIJ 62ri and I loved it!
62 ... Especially the colour
Hi there! Great idea, I dig the '62 for sure! Still waiting for a japan '62 RI in between, if possible...
Good idea. I used to have one around that belonged to a friend. They are definitely good guitars!
I just purchased the fender 62 reissue Neck pickup for my Tele . So excited to see how its gonna pair with my seymour duncan lil 59 bridge pickup
Thant sounds like a nice combo. Let me know how it works out for you!
That riff sounds great. Simple but good.
Hi HotRodX, thank you, glad you like it!
Were those your own compositions? Anyway, I liked them. Good for letting listeners actually hear what the guitars sound like. Way better than the guys who try to impress you with fast blues licks.
Hi Dave, thanks for acknowledging that. For me big part of the fun in creating these videos is writing the music! I'm also usually not too fond if someone just starts jamming the pentatonic in a gear review.
Great comparison and nice, consistent playing that was perfect for this comparison. I would have to choose the '52 because it sounded the fullest, but still had the most chime of the 3. The '64 would be a close second and the '62 last. There's just something I didn't care for with the '62...relatively speaking of course. They all sounded great, but the '52 has that classic Tele look too!
Hi Mark, most people seem to favor the '52 according to the latest comments. Personally, I lean towards the '64 but in the end of the day if you own any of these you won't be disappointed.
Great comparison! I didn't even know there was a 62RI!
I liked the 64 the best, the 52 sounded oddly washed out when compared with these two. If you get your hands on a 58, please do a comparison of that and the 52 & 64. That would be a great test - I know there's already one out there, but I have a feeling you'd do a better job. Keep rocking!
Thanks for your comment, Nick. So happy you like the video! I had played the 58 in a store when they were still available a couple of years ago and preferred the 52. I felt that the 58 was slightly too twangy with the steel saddles. But that's my personal preference. I will, of course, make another video if I ever get my hands on a 58 :)
Came here to say the 58 is the best in the range
Great demo. U got mad money man. Right now I can barely afford the Mexican Vintera just under 1k
Hi, I actually don't own all these guitars, I usually look in my guitar playing community what people have and do videos accordingly. Coming Up I'll do a little time travel to the 70ies with a Custom Tele and a Gibson SG from that era :)

Hi nice video! Which tele specs sound more rock’n roll? What’s your opinion?
Hi Erkan, I guess it depends on how you define Rock 'n Roll. If you want to get authentic and go back to the 50ies it's probably the AV 50. The 62 and the 64 are pretty similar in spec (btw you can find these on my website paul reno.de). Soundwise I think the 62 has more bite, which is probably also down to the PUs (other differences are neck thickness and nut material). If you want to go Rock 'n Roll in a Desert Rock/ Metal/ Alternative sense I'd also check out the Custom Teles with humbuckers. I'll be showcasing a '76 one in one of my next Videos.
@@PaulReno Thank you for information ✌️
@@eeeejcicjn you're welcome!
64 for me ♥️
👍🏽 that‘s also my preference. I just received an American Original 70 Tele Custom. Also a nice T Style Option!
I have the MIJ ‘62 but added Pure Vintage ‘64 pickups on…
Hi Mike, I considered doing a similar mod like you with my MIJ Jazzmaster I featured in one of my other videos. Funnily, after making the video I decided to live it as it is. But of course, changing Pickups on MIJs may be a good option to go from a ok to a great instrument.
Hi Paul,
I watched the video however I am really curious how would you describe the difference between AV 52' vs AV 64'.
Why I am asking?
I had an opportunity to buy one of them second hand. I have compared them and surprisingly AV 52' sounded much darker, thicker and louder than AV 64'. Like AV 64' was super twangy, this and quiet compared to 52'. I bought AV 64' anyway thinking that there is something in this guitar. I gave this guitar 'proper' setup', changed the cap for old paper in oil (same as you can find in Nacho guitars) and now I have an impression that it's a different instrument.
You mentioned that AV 52' sounded the 'most laid back'. I had an opposite impression trying both and now I think maybe the reason was the setup.
If I remember correctly by saying „laid back“ I refered to it having less attack and upper midrange when compared to the sixties Teles.
Thank you :)@@PaulReno
Guitars are like shoes- how they feel how they function. You can get any sound out of any of these with mods pedals amps strings and touch. I dot see the point unless it is discussing specs.
If that works for you it's fine :) I have a different approach. If I go running I put on my running shoes, if I go to work I put on steel toe shoes :)
'64 in this video for me.

What s the name of the first riff you Play?
Hi Chris, that's on original composition by me. You can find it on most streaming services as "New Market Street". It's influenced by some Deep Purple stuff.
@@PaulReno thankyou I think it is exceptional.
@@hrshorty6676 Thank you so much!
They all sound hair splitting identical to my ears.
Hi, thanks for the feedback! Maybe I should try a condensermic on the amp in future videos to better highlight the differences.

Hi Robert, thanks for watching my video!
