i was diagnosing a misfire on a nissan quest, i performed this test procedure for the coil packs and it read that it was good, but when i switched around the coil packs from one spot to another the misfire jumped to where i put in the tested coil pack, it ended up being a bad coil pack did i miss something? or did something wrong? because i got the same readings as you
This method only tests the 'input' side of the coil. The high voltage 'output' side going to the sparkplug, is not tested by this method. The bad coil pack may have had a shorted output coil, an open output coil, or a high-resistance short that only conducted under high voltage (which would read okay if tested with a multimeter). If this test gives a 'bad' reading, replace the coil pack. If this test gives a good reading, your swap method is the way to go--see if the misfire fault follows the suspect coil pack.
For lack of better term the part that attaches to the spark plug should be test as well between and one of the pins just like on the coil that were used on old distruborcran engines... because you are test step up voltage
Hi all, when I test ignition coils secondary resistance always show nothing. On multimeter 2k, 200k and auto mode the resistance stay on 1, but coils work good and properly. Why it’s happening?
Just to get this straight, then. For two and three, any reading except 0 or 0.L (infinite) is good? For one and two, and one and three, any reading except 0 is good? Or do you always want those two readings to read 0.L (infinite)?
Yes, between 2 and 3 any reading other than '0' or 'infinity is good. Between 1 and 2 and between 1 and 3 any reading other that '0' is good, These are the readings given in the Nissan Micra manual.
You repeat this process on the individual coils. When youbhave a flat tire in thenrrar driver youndont look at the driver front thats ok and wonder why the car feels flat would you?
The test for pin 3 & 2 together was the primary winding coil. Try also testing the secondary winding by touching the meter to one of those three pins and the output side (bottom part that attaches to the spark plug) of the ignition coil. You'll know you found the right pin on the electrical connector when you get another reading besides 0 or ♾️
he wouldn't :) i have coil where i find 50k between two pins, but brand new coil indicates ~7k ohm. To know which is bad you need at least one good coil or at least know proper values for a given coil.

What if ignition coil has two wires, not three?
Solved my problem. There was a falty ignition coil. With your video I have identified it. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for watching !
how to check if 4 terminal
Thank you for sharing the knowledge!!

@@Steve-xl2mn thank you for explaining
Liking your cheap, aldi, lidl and haflords set up, does the job 👌
so the last test , if it was bad.. it would be 0 or infinity right?
Yes, 0 would indicate a dead short and infinity would indicate an open circuit.
Thx bro. Gonna try in the morning
شكرا على التوضيح. تحياتي لك 🙏، أنا من المغرب

How do you know the pin numbers are 1 , 2 y 3 in that order?
Do you have to remove the coil to test or can you leave it in situ?
Which ohm value should I have it on ?? 200, 2k, 20k, 200k, 2m
200k
For lack of better term the part that attaches to the spark plug should be test as well between and one of the pins just like on the coil that were used on old distruborcran engines... because you are test step up voltage
Why do I need to remove the coil from the engine?
Because it takes 2 seconds to remove and install and will make your life much easier
how to check if 4 pins ?

How do I test my Bluetooth controlled ignition coils?
Most use Bluetooth meter 😂
Or a toothbrush
wood bluetooth picks attatched to floss works well for me
how does a guy test a 2002 Mustang GT coil pack to see if it is good? Can we measure that with an ohms meter?
Thank you.
You're welcome!
which pin is positif, ground, and trigger?
Is this test to suit any make of car?

hi, toyota coil has 4 pins. what to do?
@Aesthetics622😂 Good answer😂😂😂
So when it says "except 0", does that mean it should be either infinity or a number value? Or just infinity
Yes, Except '0'' is either infinity or a number value
@@knobsdialsandbuttons do you mean "accept"?
Not to be a jerk, but it should be "accept" not "except."
It's 'except'. Any number 'except 0'. It's direct from the Nissan factory manual.
Thank you
You're welcome
how does 3 pins control 4 cylinders???
This is only one of 4 ignition coils. There's one on each spark plug.
You repeat this process on the individual coils. When youbhave a flat tire in thenrrar driver youndont look at the driver front thats ok and wonder why the car feels flat would you?
I guess the ones that read 5.something are good ones and the ones that are irratic are bad. You never said.
My coil shows good, but when driving, then it shows misfiring on the same coil.
The test for pin 3 & 2 together was the primary winding coil. Im getting the same reading on 1 & 3 , 2&3 . 1&2 read 2.5 63 all 3 coils read the same
It's a start but not all are 3 pins TK U
You dont test the secondary.
and how would you know if it's faulty?
he wouldn't :) i have coil where i find 50k between two pins, but brand new coil indicates ~7k ohm. To know which is bad you need at least one good coil or at least know proper values for a given coil.
@pepedombo3819 just need to check all coil packs and if one differ
Hi,my Outback has 4 pins , and all the combinations like 1-2 , 1-3 , 2-4 etc show infinity , you think coil pack is bad ? Thanks
Yeah. Circuit can't be completed therefore it's shorted.
All type of coils
I hate when their afraid to talk and explain things
He explained everything we needed to know perfectly clear without speaking.
can read can't we?
Dumb comment move on
I hate when people who can't spell comment 😂
Understandable, but they could be from a country that does not speak English! The subtitles were easy to follow and understand!
wtf does "except 0" mean? Do you mean "Accept 0" or anything EXCEPT 0?
It means anything but '0'

What if it reads 1.8?
1.8 or 1.8k?
1.8 is good
Mine says .000 for all of them
Except 0? I think you mean 'accept.'
No it is 'except 0', as in 'other than' 0
Aldi tools.. nahhh
