Those coils have three prongs on them. Which wire do you check for resistance, the ground and power wires or which ones do you know to check for resistance ?
I am not following this. You tested the two coils on the right and they both showed no resistance. The one on the left showed resistance and you said it was the bad one? Aren't good coils supposed to have a resistance range on them that shows they are good? Having no resistance at all leads me to believe that they are bad and not good, as you said in the video. Confusing stuff.
Resistance means there is a current leak between the two contacts. The meter reading (1) is saying there is no current leak between the two because there's actually infinite resistance. Hope that clears it up.
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor I have a '95 Nissan Maxima. Its coils have 3 prongs as well. I saw a youtube video on a Maxima that says if you find resistance in, I think, ground and positive, the coil is good. You're saying the opposite. I'm confused. His test showed 6.6 ohms. Can you give some clarification please? Here's the youtube link: ruclips.net/video/SZPiD7nv9Bw/видео.html and it's at the 4:43 mark of the video
You have demostrated wrong test point dude. Eventually, each coil consist of two coils, primary coil and secondary coil as the purpose of induction system. Please connect the right tester cable pole to the coil pole. Red cable to the (+)coil and black one to the (-)coil. You'll get the resistance value of primary coil. Then, you have to check the secondary coil too. Now, connect black cable to (-)coil and the red one to the (+)high voltage coil output which usually connected to the spark plug. You'll get the resistance of secondary coil. Both primary and secondary coil must have value that refers to the standard value which may be different depending the type of every car. So, if there is nothing showed on the tester screen or the values are different to the reference value of good coil, you have to replace your coil with the new one. Correct me if i am wrong. Thanks.
Why is he saying it’s bad when resistance is present on his primary test I thought long it’s in the parameters on that specific coil it’s good the other two with no resistance is bad right? I know he still needs check secondary winding like you explainef
Google search , 3 wire , battery voltage , ground , and PCM control circuit ( trigger ) . So NOT simple . But , coils usually fail between the coil and plug Anyway . Sometimes you can see the burning through the heat resistant insulation . Sometimes you can pull apart the rubber like insulation and see that the connection between the coil and wire to the plug is burned . Bottom line , checking with an ohm meter is often misleading .
This is wrong information, if there's no resistance in coil then it's open winding it will never generate the spark. Please don not share the wrong information i like your videos but it's not means you can share anything. Brother you should study about the coil and you will understand. Thanks
Thank you Peter I love you so much, very intelligent person She speaks English very well We Arabs love someone who talks slowly to understand what is being said Thank you
Peter, do you need to take out the ignition coils? Or is it OK to just disconnect the cables and test the ignition coils (like in the video) while they are still in the engine? Very good video, by the way!

The coils with zero resistance are bad ,zero resistance means a short circuit, maybe the only good coil is the one with resistance ,he dont know how to read the meter.
I really appreciat you but when you measured igntion coil you makes me confused when the igntion coil you measured first when you get resistance you said it bad when you measured second round you said bad the igntion coil you said good
If the number is smaller it means the coil is closer to a short circuit,. The resin on the wire inside the coil is melted and is starting to short. Zero ohm would mean infinite resistance.
This is not what you said in the video. The bad coil had a high number (970+) and the good coils had zero number (low). In the video you said a high number of resistance is the bad coil. Now you say in the comments that the "higher number" means the coil is "good". ??
robert bruce in the video he was measuring the resistance, not volts. Low resistance (0) is good. The bad coil was showing 9.2 resistance which is bad. It should be 0. But voltage should be high but in the video he wasn't measuring the voltage.
