    I am legitimately blown away by how much speaking time he has. The previous first place was Ruby at 8 minutes. IRONWOOD HAS 10 MORE MINUTES OF TALKING THAN THAT. Big props to his voice actor Jason Rose for doing so much work this volume.

      As someone who is in the know more than Ruby, a lot of his lines would go to exposition and planning but it’s pretty crazy how much more time he has than Ruby. Ironwood was the best in Season 7.

    There’s a pattern with Ironwood.
    In Volume 4, he keeps offering help and trying to support the survivors of Beacon but no one wants it and people blame him. Underneath he was really emotionally damaged.
    Then he became a little unhinged in Volume 4 because no one wanted to help HIM.
    Then we see him again and he’s still trying to give people things, but now he’s doing the same thing he did at Beacon, giving people protection by force, he still offers lots of help but... people still blame him. Eventually he becomes unhinged again, mainly because no one has really sat him down and had a good loving talk with him.
    But that’s all because he’s pretty damaged. He’s a very sad man.
    Probably could have avoided all this by just giving him a big hug and telling him that he should enjoy what he has now.
    Forget what was lost, what will be lost.

    There's literally no right or wrong answer, both plans are terrible because it's a terrible situation to be put in.
    If Atlas was the Titanic and Salem is the iceberg, Ironwood wants to prioritize the women and children in the life boats but RWBY wants the entire ship on them.
    Either way, people were going to die and RWBY would've had the most blood on their hands.

      Edit: I also don't remember what Ruby's plan was once they got everyone on board with the idea of gathering Atlas and Mantle. If you can, before I get the free time to look it up, what was the plan once they were all together?
      I ALSO don't fully remember Cinder's operation in the background. I suck. But from the sound of it, the success of Ruby's plan hinges on CRWBY taking Cinder and Neo out of the show because if what I vaguely remember is on track, Cinder and Neo were actively playing a part that guaranteed, regardless of whose side you're on, people were going to die, with the only difference being percentages. If Cinder and Neo weren't in the show to cause Ironwood to freak out in V7 with the chess piece I'm sure we would've gotten a completely different volume where everybody would've compromised and come together for a plan lol.

      That was such a shame for me because of how OOC I found that action.
      As far as I'm concerned, that was the same level of cheap manipulation as TLOU 2 resorted to with that one specific dog in an attempt to demonise Ellie.
      The only reason for CRWBY to have Ironwood shoot Oscar in my mind is to just get people mad at him and disregard the arguments he was making.
      That was one of the most disappointing V7 moments for me.

    • @ImStrange_
      @ImStrange_  4 года назад +10

      @@jacksimpson9186 Definitely not out of his character. "I will do whatever it takes to stop her" right? He saw Oscar as an obstacle and "removed it". He has lost his humanity.

      @@ImStrange_ Disagreeing with you there, there was almost no build up to him being the kind of person who shoots children, even in V7.
      How have we seen Ironwood treat allies in every appearance prior to, and even a couple of them IN, V7?
      He flips around his gun, even when Qrow is jumping at him with Scythe bared (seemingly) trying to attack him.
      Sends Yang a Cybernetic replacement arm in V4, despite being under zero obligation to do so.
      Stands up for Weiss at the fundraiser when she calls out the Atlesian elite for not really being concerned with Vale.
      Hugs Qrow in V7 when he sees him again.
      Greets Oscar kindly, and confides in him his worries several times over the course of V7.
      Even when RWBY declares clear intent to stand against him and his plans, he orders their nonlethal arrest, not immediate execution
      Now, I'm not saying that he couldn't eventually be turned INTO the type of character to just go around shooting anyone who disagrees with him, but that switch was not done well at all in my opnion. It's so utterly jarring to see him pull out a pistol and shoot this kid who's trying to reason with him that "He lost his Humanity" is just not cutting it as an explanation.
      I can't see that scene as anything other than cheap emotional manipulation and an OOC moment for him to solidify his new Antagonistic position, because the build-up to that scene was not executed well.

    • @HighPriestFuneral
      @HighPriestFuneral 4 года назад +11

      @@jacksimpson9186 There are theories that at this point he doesn't view Oscar as Oscar, but as Oz, so instead of seeing a child he sees a manipulator whose own agents have spoiled his plans. Therefore him shooting "Ozcar" was his way of ending their relationship and his part in Oz's group.

    A lot of people seem to miss that Ironwood is the one who turned on Team RWBY, using their previous (generally well-meaning) lies as reasons to not trust them to help with anything (not even very immediate issues like Cinder) or to hear out any of their suggestions. He just snaps and follows his old self-righteous tic. Oh, and blames THEM for Salem's arrival.

    9:00 The phrasing of this line is interesting. Like Ironwood has personal experience dealing with an outside influence on your mind. The show definitely suffered for not fully explaining his semblance, but I think this is a pretty good indication of how Ironwood feels about having it.
