      Imperium Maledictum is the new rpg from Cubicle 7 and it looks much better than Wrath and Glory. They streamlined the rules, gave you more options. You can literally play as a health and safety officer working for an adminstratum prefect, or being an acolyte now. To make the game faster they also dumped having detailed distances and combats instead you divy up combat maps into "zones" which are meant to be areas around 20 meters in size. Does make combat a lot faster.

    A fun thing of Rogue Traders vs Inquisitors.
    Inquisitors were appointed by the High Lords of Terra / Malacador the Sigilite
    While the Rogue Trader's warrant comes from the Emperor.

      It depends on the Trader. Many were indeed signed by the Emperor himself, but many after the Horus Heresy were issued by the High Lords. That said, technically they have more authority than the Inquisition, especially together, and so Rogue Traders may very well be above the authority of the Inquisition so long as they stay within the bounds of Imperial law. That said, technical immunity doesn't matter when the foaming-at-the-mouth fanatics all look the other way out of piety.

    Ok Cassia is not fucked up, it is just that she believed that is what all Nobles did to their servants because that is specifically what House Orsellio does to their servants, and she was basically raised inside of that station so she didn't really have the chance to learn about other places, like she straight up has never seen a beach despite being a Noble lady, she has spent all her life training to be a navigator and continue her family's trade.

      At the moment, I am nearing the end of the Romance arc with Cassia, I think. She is a sweet, if… Extraordinary Lady that expresses what she sees in an eloquent manner that touches the mind and souls of those around her. Albeit, quite profoundly at times if she’s not careful.
      All I say is; choose your words wisely and play the game nobles play. If you’re having trouble, read a book from your library about the arts of etiquette. She will find it quite enriching, as you find her just as.
      I do hope that in the end; House Orsellio joins the Von Valancius Dynasty and changes the Koronus Expanse forevermore in their Union, for the betterment of it’s inhabitants and be a boon for the Imperium during its darkest times.

The warrant isn't just a permission slip, it's a historical record of everything the dynasty has done and owned, so some of the newer ones fit in a stasis-sealed scroll tube that you could wear on your chest, while others are so grand that they're kept in an Administratum data-vault and the bearer of the warrant just carries a cliffs notes version.

      @kapitankapital6580 10 месяцев назад +7

      It's a hard line to walk legally, because you have to protect your IP if you want the full protections of the law. The legal system generally frowns on private actors arbitrarily deciding when something is or is not an offence, for good reason, but the downside of that is you need to at least be seen to be consistent. Remember also that judges aren't going to be aware of all the ins and outs of your company's community relations, and ultimately that's who will rule on whether your claims are valid or not.
      It's not fully GW's fault, just as the OGL fiasco isn't fully WotC's fault, while it's possible they could have handled it better, they are trying to operate in a legal system that does not provide the flexibility these companies need for proper community management. The whole world of mods and fan content is an emerging area of law that is far from settled, which has been complicated even further in recent years by the rise of AI. This is a lot more complicated than many of the creators who have no background in law make it out to be.

    • @NACLGames
      @NACLGames 10 месяцев назад

      @@kapitankapital6580 Unfortunately, every gamer, modder and content creator are law and IP experts. And in their expert opinion, IP holders are mostly moustache twirling villains who hold the IP they created hostage, out of the hands of fan communities who everyone knows understand, love and work harder for than said villains and their corporate slaves.
      Jokes aside, it's not surprising modders and fan content creators tend to be clueless about this yet the most problematic bunch. It's admirable that they put out usually free or at least minimally monetized work, but that hardly gives them insight into long term strategy and IP protection, things any responsible IP holder needs to consider. But because the former group are "creating", they feel they have insight into what it means to create a full blown product when they really don't. And then when they get transactional and start claiming they and the community are owed something because of their free work, it starts to get ugly.
      And that point you raise is really, really important. I always emphasize to detractors that if you don't protect your IP, it hurts your ability to defend hypothetical future attacks on it. Laws in many countries allow a certain degree of fair use, but even that usually requires explicit, not tacit, permission from the IP holder. Allowing some fan projects severely decreases your ability to oppose actual malicious actors. And these bad actors are real, and can come knocking with the most ludicrous of claims or infringements. Companies can potentially spend millions on truckloads of cases you will never hear about in public, because individually they aren't big cases. But they're there. The law, as you say, offers little flexibility in practice here.
      Independent of legal issues, I also think that fans idea of a community based content ecosystem being the only way is oddly myopic to the various possible business strategies out there, and is notably self-serving. Nintendo was pointed out in the first post, but Nintendo has only in relatively recent years started to get flak, mostly due to video game lets-play VODs, and only from a burgeoning new generation of content creators who were used to playing any game under the sun for content. Nintendo's policy against infringement goes way back decades, is hardly a surprise nor an issue for many older fans, and has been very strictly enforced. I think few can argue it's bought it's own kind of success where there is very little dilution of it's IPs and they have full control over every aspect of it. Could they find success having a more open content model? Sure, but it wouldn't be the same, and it wouldn't necessarily be better. There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all business model. But then again, content creators often don't any experience that tells them otherwise.

Microsoft allows fans to create insane content with the Halo franchise without bringing legal teams onto them every time they make a game, or mod, or full blown animation. They're actually very supportive of the fan community, and that's coming from fucking Microsoft. There's plenty of other companies that support their fans utilising their IPs. Microsoft has not magically lost control of its Halo IP.
      It is absolutely GW's fault, just as the OGL fiasco IS fully WotC's fault. 40:49 The story you're thinking of is from Ghostmaker. An Eldar Warlock trying to close a Webway gate creates an illusion which causes the Tanith to see the fight as a defense of the Governor's Palace on Tanith and the Volpone Bluebloods see it as a battle they lost in the past. The best part as I recall is that none of his guard are aware of this plan so there's just a bunch of confused Eldar wondering what the humans are talking about and just rolling with it.

      Yes, it's actually quite early on in the Ghost novels. It's 3 different regiments all remembering their 'pivotal moment' going differently. It was some important battle for the Bluebloods, something else for the Deepers and then obviously the Fall of Tanith for the Tanith.

      @@RimmyDownunder even more notable is the fact that the tanith fought off an entire army with only ONE casulty..a soldier who had an absurdly lucky run and had convinced himself he was invincible..only to be killed by an unlucky ricochet at the end of the battle..they were just THAT invested in "saving thier world" after having failed to do it the first time. the Imperium took one look at the record for the battle, decreed it impossible and officially stated it never happened. It's a bit of a running gag with the Ghosts...in the very fist book Gaunt was promised "the first world you take you get to keep" by the dying previous Warmaster...a couple books in Gaunt acknowledges that despite being a legal, theoretically binding order..it's NEVER going to happen. buuut.....by the (current) end of the series he's pretty much on a fast track to become the next Warmaster anyhow...so there's that.

    Also Cassia is the best Romance in any RPG hands down. It punishes you for being super upfront and requires a subtle kind of romance like in a medieval fairytale and actually gets wholesome later down the line. It is a shame that Argenta isnt romancable but that likely will change in the future. But Pasqual is quite fun to speak to and is a fun dude. Hes also a monster in combat and if you haven't id recommend making him a assassin archetype.

      "Argenta isnt romancable but that likely will change in the future"
      Doubtful. Owlcat is notorious for having companions that people want to romance but they refuse to make them romancable. Like Linzi, Amiri, Nenio and a couple of others from their Pathfinder games for example. There's no reason for Argenta to not be a romance option, because most Sisters of Battle don't actually take vows of chastity. They just won't because they probably can't be bothered to retroactively add content to an established character for free.

  • @TeamOneDay
    @TeamOneDay 10 месяцев назад +18

    Owlcat makes some damn great RPGs. Problem I have is that Owlcat tends to leave have some serious bugs in their games and then moving on to the next. The bugs they do patch take quite a while. Another problem I have is that they'll most likely attempt (or be forced to attempt) to quietly package borderline spyware into their game, then take it out if enough push back is achieved. They've done this more than once. It'll probably be as easy as blocking any connection that certain packets will be sent through, but the fact that I'd have to do that is silly.
    I still remember my first Rogue Trader campaign (the Tabletop), such fond moments I look back on. And I've love to play this game to see if I'll have such fond memories of this game in the future...however given some of the negative reviews I've read, it seems this game suffers from the same problems as Owlcat's older games, and modern games in general. Undercooking.

Like, you have small sects of Buddhists who managed to survive for so long by being the first to settle in far-space solar systems when the Emperor was still alive, Catholics who survived by masking their practices as ones toward the emperor, more pagan beliefs blending in with the mechanics, or in the depths of a factory world, all for one reason or another revolting against the modern Imperium.

    And to be fair I genuinely love all the companions except really Jae, but she is also pretty damn strong in combat and checks so she kinda gets a pass. My favourites are Cassia because she is just adorable, and Pasqal because nothing better then a Mechanics Magos being a Mechanicus Magos to perfection imo.
    Edit: Side note, with the right gear and skills you can make Argenta a literal death god WITH HER STARTING BOLTER ALONE. Her, along with my sniper commissar and the elf everyone is going to make the Liara of W40K, basically handle all the damage.
