I like how you installed the winter guard first the drip flashing and then covered everything with your synthetic. That way the shingles will be removable in the future.

I had a question regarding this presidential Shingels . We are installing it on a 170sq home here in Texas. My question was ? When you install this are all the valleys open valleys with a W metal instead of closed like on a regular Shingels. Also they other question was as you are installing it the pattern to follow is 5/15? Thank you and great job

Sometimes I turn a gaf ultra upside down and use one of the dual starter to eliminate the dip you get when you use the dual starter..Preferred celotex Ambassador to the Certainteed landmark tl, although we still do allot of both..I like to customize the ridge, when certainteed bought out celotex they didn’t continue with the dedicated ridge, although here in the Los Angeles heat it would melt a few inches onto the roof..

with the presidential shake 5/15 inch coarse layout start etc.with the chimney hitting in the middle of layout.?don't you have to maintain the hypothetical layout (overlap) next coarse when it runs into the chimney and starts on the other side so your layout is also maintained from the next coarse up the roof? hope this makes sense.

Eric Garcia I've done hundreds of presidential shake but I don't install it for less than 150 a square tear off one layer and that's my prize as a sub contractor and a lot of companies don't want to pay that remember that you have to pay good money to your crews or they won't do it plus another 20% to the workers comp of what you pays your guys remember that

35 year roofer here...now retired....I've installed literally 100's of Presidential roofs. Unlike most of these videos..you actually know what your doing.. But why bother with that first chalkline? Just run the shingle even with the starter. And if your step flashings are properly installed there is no need for all that messy mastic. And the lines aren't necessary for going around chimneys,AC's etc. Just keep your 5-15 and it will come out fine.. In the real world..working piecework.you would starve if you do this here and that there when it isn't necessary.

I was going to say the same , he works too slow , maybe for a video yes , it does work , the other thing , they are missing the 1x4 for the z bar ...i never install the step flashing directly over the plywood , then you are making it harder for the removal in the next 50 years. unless you don't care .
2: you supposed to installed a piece of starter on top of the step flashing or any other flashing to cover the metal because sometimes the shingles doesn't cover it.
to be a certainteed installer ...I think he is still on diapers .
      greeting from a pro roofer.
      Eric.

      Roofing Solutions By Eric Garcia
I believe the installer in this video is fairly skilled. Remember, this is only a video and some points may have been missed. He was quite informative in his explanations.
I've also seen one of your videos Eric, all you do in your video is say "bad, he no idea what he doing".
I guarantee that this guy would not starve in the roofing market. I personally fix many roofs on this area installed by Spanish speaking workers. Just because you speak Spanish and English, that does not make you a premier roofer.

Do you install a starter Shigle on the valley to cover up the metal.

Never nail shingles tight to flashing. Makes residue stick and makes leaks

I thought you did really well until you got behind the chase. It's not a chimney--its a 'chase' that houses a factory chimney to the fireplace. The IRC calls for a cricket on chimneys >30" wide. It has a chart that's a simple formula based upon width of the chimney and roof pitch as to how high the ridge of the cricket has to be. You can make a metal cricket into one piece if it meets these criteria but if someone steps on this cricket shown it will crush because there is no framing or plywood support. Fail.

Nails not driven flat.. no storm nailing.

  • @PaulSpradlin
    @PaulSpradlin 6 лет назад +1

Just a suggestion.. we don't use that step flashing...use 4x4 with a water turn and never nail through the metal to the deck...never nail through the shingle through the metal. Set a nail beside the metal and let the head of the nail catch the edge of the metal to hold it in place. And use a colored metal that matches the shingle or all you will see is that shinny metal when you look up. Lots of people paint it but that paint wears off.

Your first shingle at the first row should had five inches cut off from the left side lap to allow the left tab cover the double starter to prevent the double starter from flapping in the wind.

that chimney is wrong.... it might not leak but still wrong. you dont need the mastic if you install it right. maybe for 3 tabs? even then its a waste of time. and all chimneys get starter around after step flashing. its ok video for people doing there own home i guess. in that case your going to need more mastic lol

It's cheaper labor and material to install standing seam metal. The shingles are 170/square and you have to pay crews 120/square for a 1 story walker to install it the right way. You can install standing seam metal for 350 in DFW. Goodguysroofingco.com
