    That round plastic piece you mention that you used a screw driver to open the lift gate from inside is a good point of awareness. Hopefully all these years later the manufacturer will provide a method ( pull device like in car with a truck ) and flag to let somebody know who might be stuck in the vehicle to get out safely.

    Still relevant 5 years later! I just did this on my 2016 Equinox! I watched the video a couple times and had to refer back to it while in the middle of the job. I have probably an hour total in it, plus this review. The part is now $23, but a current estimate at a shop would probably be more than $1000! I did NOT have a deep enough 10mm socket for the 2 center nuts, but my hands are small enough and I was able to reach in w/ an adjustable wrench and get the center nuts. Removing that main outside part was tough because I didn't expect the 2 little plastic clip things that held it in pretty good. I ended up cutting one enough to get one side out, then pulled hard on the other side. Then when replacing the inner molding, I would mention making sure it is guided into the upper mold on each side. I almost missed this. Great instructions, thanks!

    Sad that the dealer or repair shop quoted such high price, they would put a switch in like you and charged for the module, this why folks have little trust in dealers and repair shops the just want to do an Easter egg hunt for what's wrong and take your money for it. Deal could of made the same simple test and fixed for under 125.00 with labor. Sad to see it come to this I spend 15 plus years working for dealer back in the day,,, they are rip centers now days. Hook,crook and we don't know how to fix it now days. Thanks for your video, very well done and clear and easy to understand, Thanks again.

    Hello Jerry my 2012 Chev equinox back hatch started to act up a month or so ago .. I googled the problem and there you were telling me how to fix it. .. getting the blasted thing to open was the problem until today . I tried the hatch and it opened so I watched this video again and went out to the garage and in the 2nd snow so far this fall I went to work on it . I am a 64 yr old woman and I think I said words I'd have got a licken for as a kid. But despite the cold and the fact that a marker light got pulled out, wires got broke and everything... So I spliced wires and taped everything back together and put it all together and ... it's fixed and I thank YOU !

I watched another youtube video of a guy removing the paneling and then I was able to get it off. I almost gave up a few times to wait for my husbands strength. But then I remembered what you said at the end: "If you put your mind to it, you can do anything". This encouraged me when I was struggling and I pushed through and figured it out! So proud of myself! You saved me a my family hundreds of dollars! Thank you!

    Thanks for this video! Wife got a flat on her Acadia, and when roadside assistance showed up, they could not access the cargo area. Roadside guy knew how to open the lift gate, but that did not fix the problem. While I most likely WILL NOT take our GMC Acadia back to the dealer, I also do not want to depend of my brother-in-law to get around to looking at my lift gate. So I looked up the part number and ordered the part. As soon as it arrives, I will attempt the repair! Nothing like saving money! Thanks again!

    Thanks Jerry. Excellent video. I have the same exact problem and I'm confident it's the same exact fix. Those switches go bad far too often to ever suspect a module that your car doesn't have to be the problem. It would have been worth it to pay them to put the module in just to sit back and watch them try.
    Side note: Your vehicle doesn't HAVE a liftgate control module. The only cars that do are the ones with the auto open/close feature.

      If moisture makes your pressure switch go bad it won’t open it but it also might make your trunk open on its own while sitting in the driveway. Came out to it lifted randomly couple of times. Changed the switch but 2010 terrain slt has a knob by sunroof you can turn to fully open, 3/4 open(for shorter folks), or off so trunk won’t open while you wait for the right time to fix it. Hope it saves someone a little hassle by turning the knob not stressing if it’s opened again

      An update.... the 2015 trax is a little different but not much, so you video was still very helpful. the plastic panel actually pops off versus removing screws and it reveals the latch assembly without having to take anything off on the exterior. Turns out it wasn't a bad switch but it looks like there must be something wrong with the assembly itself. So returning the switch and ordering the assembly (my son called it something else but that's what it looks like to menow (of course, more expensive.) To be continued.... Lift gate fixed! It was the actuator (that's what my son called it.) A $50 part that he installed pretty quickly. Thanks again for getting us in the right direction. Damn happy to be able to use my back seats again :)

I’m putting a wheelchair lift on the back of this tomorrow and the past two SUVs I had, they were still away you could pop open the back glass. From what I can tell you cannot do this on the car. Please let me know if I missing something. It’s going to kind of suck to not be able to at least put a few things in the back.

    If the auto raise hatch is lifted by itself randomly your switch likely has moisture in it. Happened several times where I came outside to it opened for who knows how long. 2010 GMC Terrain slt has a knob by the sunroof you can turn for it to raise all the way, 3/4 of the way(for shorter folks), or off position where trunk won’t open, try turning the knob to off until you can replace the handle. Hope it helps someone

    • @JerryJacksonDIY

      Its not a specific angle. You have to push on the release cam to open the door.

    You missed a couple important steps. Outside of that, everything went smoothly. I wouldn't even have gotten the door open without this video. 1) once the four 10mm nuts are removed from the back of the bezel, there are 2 white push pins still holding the bezel on. One is a pain to get to, the other is damn near impossible. It takes the right pliers (long needle nose) and a good deal of foul language to get it. 2) be very careful before you try to disconnect the switch from the wiring harness inside the bezel. Examine the new wiring plug on the switch carefully. You are going to think it's a two piece and should be pulled in half before plugging into the bezel. It's not. It's a one piece plug. It does not pull apart. Also, it will help immensely if you have a large pin or small awl to pry up on the lock tab after you've moved the red locking slide back toward the wires. Be gentle with this plug. Work slowly and think hard before you start reefing on anything. It all comes apart easily if done right.

    • @JerryJacksonDIY
      @JerryJacksonDIY  4 года назад +1

      Hello Heather, if you have a bad switch and push the button you will not hear any noise. The bad switch is not making a connection to trigger the latch. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    Probably a long shot but I’ve had a problem with my lift gate not opening. At first we thought it was the button so I replaced it and it worked a couple times during the first day and stopped working entirely. so then we thought it was the latch. Just replaced that and it’s not that either. Can you help ?

    • @JerryJacksonDIY
      @JerryJacksonDIY  3 года назад +1

      The button is a momentary contact switch that has power on one side and ground on the other. You need to check for power. If no power the concern is upstream somewhere. If you have power you can simply jump the power to the ground and latch should unlock. Hope this helps.

    • @JerryJacksonDIY
      @JerryJacksonDIY  3 года назад +1

      Hey Robin... You should be able to touch the two leads together where the switch connector plugs into and your latch should activate. If now you have other concerns up stream of the connector.
