If you want to hear Mickey Thomas wail even more, check out the smash-hit Jane from when he was lead singer of Jefferson Starship in the late 1970s. It is mind-blowing what a good singer he is and that was the vehicle for him to prove it. Plus it's a fantastic song with that iconic banging piano and heavy guitar riff.
This came out when I was in junior high but by the time I was in senior high, two other songs that I thought of as more soft then the hard rock I was mostly into, also became huge pop hits, Magnet and Steel by Walter Egan, and, Cruel To Be Kind by Nick Lowe. And this song by the Elvin Bishop Group was still receiving lots of airplay, and so for some reason, even though they were more pop than what I normally liked, they were just so good that I really liked them, and also, girls were really into these songs, so I went out and bought those three singles, so I would have something to take to parties and throw on the turntable, laugh. It turned out to be a good move!

Having grown up in the mid 60's and into the early/mid 70's -- I've got a LOT of great songs in my head.
What a time to be alive -- in terms of music. And THIS song is one of my all-time favorites. It's absolutely well crafted and produced. Then when you add Elvin's guitar work and Mickey Thomas's soaring vocals -- you just can't beat it.

The influences of blues, Soul and R&B are honored so well by Elvin and Mickey. They paid tribute to those originators!

I remember the year that song hit the airwaves, and we all have those songs where as soon as you hear it on the radio the reflex just takes over and the volume gets turned up, and this was one of those songs for me as well as a lot of people in that time. It surely was.

Hi A & BJ! Love Mickey’s voice, and as others said, he moved to front the old Jefferson Airplane when it changed its name to Jefferson Starship, and
    eventually jus Starship.
My band used to do a song of theirs called ‘Jane’ which is a solid rocker with a great vocal by Mickey… man could he sing !

Listen to that wicked, funky bass line. The ‘70’s was THE greatest decade for popular music.

Mickey Thomas is the singer ,, he joined up with Jefferson Starship or just Starship by the time he joined the band that use to be Jefferson Airplane ... Elvin was in The Paul Butterflied Blues Band back in 1967 at the Monterey Pop Festival ..Elvin has tons of great songs . Check out Struttin' My Stuff , he and Mickey both sing on that one
