I'm showing my age but the first time I heard this song was on an episode of Family Ties. It was the perfect song for that episode. Since then it's been one of my all time favs. On a couple of different playlists of mine. Thanks for reacting to it.
Same! Each time I hear it, I can see Alex P. Keaton getting his heart broken. I was on the phone to the radio station the next day, trying to describe the song to the DJ so I could find out the title and hear it again. It’s a favorite for me too.
As many times as I've heard this song. No one gives enough credit to the horns! Those sax and horns make this song a classic, and finally someone points it out, great job Asia.
Honestly, the tune, the instruments, the lyrics and his voice makes this one of the best love songs ever performed. The lyrics are so genuine, and he sung straight from his soul. I fell in love with this song the very first time I heard it. Nice reaction Asia and BJ ❤️
Such a GREAT SONG!!! "At this Moment" was destined to become a #1 hit. Upon initial release it stalled on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 79 at the end of 1981. Five years after the original release, the studio version of "At This Moment" was played on several episodes of the NBC sitcom "Family Ties" during the 1985-86 season as the love song associated with Alex P. Keaton and his girlfriend Ellen Reed (played by Tracy Pollan, whom Fox eventually married in real life). It was soon re-released and began a revived chart run, eventually hitting number 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts in January 1987.
I don’t think you could write or sing a song like that without having lived it. All of us who have lived it, can feel the heartache, passion and sadness of the moment.
Asia & BJ, I absolutely loved y'all's reaction. I kept looking over at you Asia and your face. You were feeling this song. BJ you were over there swooning. I had totally forgotten about this song. Billy Vera is just mind blowing in this song. I'm adding this song to my playlist! My problem is that I love music and there's so much good music out there and I forget. You should see my lists!!! When I hear this song and obediently takes me back to my younger days. I can almost feel what I was feeling back in the day when this song came out. This song is the bomb! Love y'all LadyGator1983🐊🐊🐊
this song had a slow burn. it came out early 80s and no one really cared. then several years later, the song was on a tv show during a dance scene and people went bananas for it and it became a hit.
When someone asks me what my favorite song is, this is it. I have always been a sucker for a great ballad, and this IS a great ballad. This song will always bring tears to my eyes. A beautiful song and a great voice.
Yep...I will always think of this as the "Family Ties song." Man...that's beautiful. As a kid I thought it was pretty...as a teenager I thought it was powerful. As an adult, it brings tears. Thanks, y'all.
Am 63 and heard this soulful song a long time ago but is great to hear again. But it truly warms my heart to see younger generations enjoy and comment like you did. "gives me goose bumps even on my legs"...Cool. Appreciate you!
I just heard this song for the first time yesterday. I had never heard of this guy, but I listened and boy was he amazing! I don’t how I had never heard this song- it’s too good!
The pain in his voice when he sings that song just moves me to tears every time. I don't know what her name was but she tore his heart out of his chest. "If you would stay I'd subtract 20 years from my life. I'd drop to my knees and kiss the ground that you walk on, if I could just hold you again.." I mean come on.
Know this song from Family Ties too and have loved for years. A duet on So You Think You Can Dance was performed to it several years ago and it’s beyond amazing. Look for it.
"If you stay I'd subtract 20 years from my life. Fall down on my knees and kiss the ground that you walk on " oh,that is such a great line!! Shoot, I would stay if he said that to me! Totally a swoon worthy song!
I literally just stood up and applauded your reaction to this, along with the song itself. You guys GOT it! BJ, you connected, Asia, you appreciated....the lyrics, the passion and the musicality of it. Just awesome on all aspects.
Asia, watching the expressions on your face with each word Billy sings says it all. It is obvious the lyrics of this song touched you to the core of your heart and the look you gave BJ when he stopped the music during the bridge...priceless. You gave him a quick look as if to say, "Have you lost your mind the way I'm feeling this and you stopped the music?"
You really should check out Judy Clay & Billy Vera singing Storybook Children they sang it at the Apollo Theater back in the day and surprised everyone!
Asia’s reaction was priceless. BJ’s reaction was “how do I compete with that?” Love both. Hey BJ, do one on Rolling Stones “Tops” and show her why you’re there.
If you liked that song, you should look up the history of his stardom. That song was played a dramatic song with Michael J. Fox in the sitcom Family Ties.
If you knew or were there when this song came out on Family Ties. Knowing the story of Michael J Fox and Tracy Pollan. It really has a great back story.
I'm 48, and when I first heard this song on an episode of Family Ties, I loved it then, and it became a hit. That episode revived this song after years and enabled it to have ne life.
I have the entire “Wiseguy” series on DVD... Love that show... Miss seeing Ken Wahl, Jonathan Banks and Jim Byrnes every week... One of the best shows EVER!!
He used to have a talk show about music on Satruday morning in LA. He would interview music industry luminaries. And the sense I had the respect and friendship of music pros. I remember one interview in particular where he and Mary Wilson spoke at length about Motown. And Mary let it be known that Miss D was difficult from the beginning. Anyway, really cool guy.

Me too! I called tv a radio station to find out who's sung this. I hope Michael J and Tracey still love it too.
Exactly. This was a classic episode/scene to a great show. The train station was full of heartbreak

Always been such a heart wrenching song!! 🎶What a voice!!🎤🎶
Asia had that beautiful smile on her face almost from the start to the finish ❤️
At This Moment ….It reaches anyone who’s ever been broken hearted and tried to get over the loss

Have always loved this song. What a vocalist. And that saxophone crew killed it.
The “It’s really over,” song. Heartbreak
That guy on the tenor sax was unreal.

One of the greatest heartbreak songs ever. So good to hear a new generation come to enjoy and appreciate it.
Check out the interview that Professor of Rock does with Billy Vera. He didn't have a hit with this song until he turned 42! And it was out there.
I was thinking the same thing! My POR notification just came across my feed.
Damn his voice is just unbelievable

I would have LOVED if one of the great black blues musicians would have done this song. I can only imagine.
This was one of the best songs that there was back in the day... Absolutely beautiful
This is a deep dive...the song is based on a true experience by Billy Vera. Good song to listen to if you need to get back on course.
So happy when others like what I like!
He also sings on the opening of the TV show KING OF QUEENS
A great song...a true classic. There was a really good episode of "Wiseguy", an `80s TV show with Billy Vera. Cool episode.
I have the entire “Wiseguy” series on DVD... Love that show... Miss seeing Ken Wahl, Jonathan Banks and Jim Byrnes every week... One of the best shows EVER!!
Look at her face. Listen learn Gentlemen. She says wow at eighteen seconds. 3.36 he pauses it. She gives him a look of, what are you doing.
You should listen to hear comes the dawn! It's on that same album, it will floor you completely..
Or "Hopeless Romantic" same vibes.

He actually wrote this song and the song was recorded live at this concert.
He used to have a talk show about music on Satruday morning in LA. He would interview music industry luminaries. And the sense I had the respect and friendship of music pros.
