Mickey Thomas is actually the cat singing, Elvin Bishop was playing the phenomenal guitar bit. Elvin had a raspier, whiskey voice that he didn't think would be appropriate with this tune, so he got Mickey to sing it.
And my fav. Singer!
Yes, man that was a weird setup but it worked. Mickey Thomas was a great singer also in Jefferson Starship
Jane and Find My Way Back.....those are my favorite Jefferson Starship Mickey songs.
Mickey was one of Elvin’s backup singers at the time. My buddy Fly Brooks played bass for Elvin on this song and during these years.
Michael “Fly” Brooks on bass. Such a wonderful guy.
The performance on The Midnight Special of them performing this, is something y'all really, really should check out! Even better than this version!
Yes!! Agree 100%
Absolutely!
Totally agree, the Midnight Special version is such a great live performance!
Yup. Mickey let the pipes show off in that take.
@@Aggiebrettman Absolutely!
Mickey Thomas on vocals guys. Also lead singer for Jefferson starship. The Midnight Special performance ... Well you'll like that old-school vibe guys ; )
Until we heard him later on in Jefferson Starship/Starship, we first heard Mickey Thomas here, in February of 1976.
So much better when you see Mickey belt it out. This gem is worth revisiting live as others have said.
Ahhh the summer of '76 & I was 14 foolin around with the neighbor chic down the dirt road from us by the swimming hole just enjoying those lazy days & exploring each other ✌💖☮
One of my all-time favorite songs! Never gets old, brings back great memories from a great time!
Me too
I agree with everyone who recommended the live version on Midnight Special awesome. I used to go to all there concerts when they came to town. A lot of fun.
who cares what you agree with
Between Micky Thomas’s singing, Elvin Bishop’s guitar, and whoever’s playing the piano, this song is fantastic!
Mickey Thomas (Jefferson Starship, Starship) on lead vocals. Elvin's one hit single.
Did not know this. Thanks for the fact.
@@josephclark4999 you're welcome
I always thought it was Elvin Bishop singing. Jefferson Starship was great. I always liked Marty Balin's singing also.
@@josephclark4999 I like the Jefferson Starship era of this band best, due to the lead vocals of Marty Balin.
@@surlechapeau I'm pretty sure he sang the song "Love Lovely Love " On the Spitfire album.. Great song and great to talk to you. Exchanged posts with his brother in law.
Though he wrote “Fooled Around and Fell in Love,” Elvin Bishop never sang on his 1976 hit. Instead, Bishop played guitar on the track with Mickey Thomas on vocals. The recording also featured drummer Donny Baldwin, who along with Thomas later joined Jefferson.
Amen this song rocks watched Don Kirchners show in the 70s ah memories 😊😊😊😊
The two old Turtles vocalists Flo and Eddie on backup vocals. Jim
Love Lex's reaction, the way she is swaying back and forth, really into the song. So cute
Brad was swaying back and forth too, so you know it's good : )
"Elvin Bishop sitting on a bale of hay he ain't good looking but he sure can play" Charlie Daniels
the Midnight Special performance of this was just that, special. Mickey Thomas looks like he changed your car's oil, then went and sang this gem to you instead of the free car wash. my favorite thing about the 70's. wasn't about looks, just talent
Well said!!
Seeing all three of you together is such a beautiful thing,I can see the resemblance from both of you in your baby boy! I been with yall since the beginning and if RUclips can't get right then I'm with yall where ever yall go! Peace&Love❤
I like the way Lex says, "You know what I mean," and Brad is like "mmhmm" but his face is saying, "What???".. LOL, perfect!
Yes the live version from The Midnight Special.
I worked at a retail store in the 90s and the owner always played 50/60/70’s radio in the store. The radio DJ must have loved this song because they played it at least once a day. This brought back great memories. Thanks for listening to it.
I loveseeing young people enjoy the GREAT music of my generation. Watch their video so you can see them live. So much emotion in this song.
"Post-Beach boys, like the Bee Gees." Man, watching your musical repertoire expand over the last couple years has been quite the trip...keep it up y'all!...music is the total sensory experience (At least if you've ever been to a rock concert). The sight of the band, the feel of the crowd, the sound of the music, the taste of the sweat running down your face from rockin' and dancing, the smell of the venue (a mix of mildew from the building, spilled beer, and sweat)...nothing like it...
Goes way back but what a great love song back in the day.
I too absolutely LOVE the guitar solo in this track
Oh you should have definitely did the live Midnight Special version. You would've just seen how talented Elvin is on guitar , and Mickey on vocals. There is an excellent female backing/supporting singer.
This song is so good that even Brad was swaying back and forth
Great song that brings back a lot of memories. Anytime I hear Elvin Bishop's name I can't help but think of Charlie Daniels' song "The South's Gonna Do It Again"....there's Elvin Bishop sittin' on a bale of hay, he ain't good looking but he sure can play. LOL
I love the way Lex talks about music. She’s so vivid in her descriptions. I always think she really feels the music that she likes.
..."Class of 76"...And then I fooled around and fell in Love...
So sorry this is happening to you. I am from the UK and have loved seeing your reaction to the music you play, particularly from the 60s and 70s (my generation!) I don't understand why this is happening, after all you are giving them free advertising and introducing a whole new generation to The Eagles music. They should be supporting your channel not shutting you down. Best of luck to you and your gorgeous little baby ❤
Lex makes me feel old, and I am - I remember when this was brand new, and it never gets old for me (sigh).
same here my friend, i have the album up in my loft too.
65/66 Elvin Bishop was in The Paul Butterfield Band playing Chicago Blues with Paul and Michael Bloomfield.
the term "so 70s" totally applies to this song. i was in jr. high when it came out,and heard it on the radio all the time. when i hear it now i'm immediately back in 8th grade falling in love with a different girl every other week. damn raging hormones!
Saw him in the eighties he had denim overalls on, and a big ol felt farmer hat. He was great live
This sounds like The Starship with a guy on guitar who's not good-looking but sure can play.
Man, I love this song still! Thanks for reacting ❤
One of the best, old school tube amp, guitar solos of all time. The live performance is just as good, or better, than this studio version.
Such a great song, and the guitar solo in this song is awesome ❤
Love this song
Aww...great song. Y'all are too cute. ❤️
Always loved this tune- even as a little girl-🙂💝💙
Great song, great guitar solo!
🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸👍
That takes me back to my bar hoppin days when I was single. And that was many many years ago.
Always loved this song
Micky Thomas from Jefferson Starship on Vocals, brilliant and Elvin Bishop on Guitar! This song never dates even though it does have a certain sound of the 70’s to it.
This song has been accused of helping to further pelvic sorcery.
65 and never heard that. Well done.
This would have been a great song to watch live on The Midnight Special - great performance! Mickey Thomas has a great voice! God bless you.
You two are 😎 awesome, keep on, keeping on 😊love ya both !
Sweet song with some attitude. This is a classic. Jack could have been an Elvin 🤣 Love you guys ❤
One of my favorite songs..........ever.
Love this song, live you guys. 👍❤🤙
excellent job as always takes me back to apr 1976 when this was out
Congratulations to you both!
Southern Rock at its finest. ❤
the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" made this song popular again, along with other 70s Classics 🙂👍
Hey guys, I love the studio setup. It's so relaxing to watch you.
Yup, classic. Not Love Will Keep us together, but Love vibes still.
Yes! I've been waiting for this.
Great song I can relate! Lol..
Elvin Bishop, he has one amazing voice!
Elvin Bishop hit the limelight when he joined Mike Bloomfield playing guitar with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. He sings, but not this. Mickey Thomas, who sang with Jefferson Starship, does lead vocals on this. Traveling Shoes, Elvin sings that.
- - - - - SO - MUCH - BETTER - LIVE - - - - -
Love this song!
You may recognize this from "Guardians of the Galaxy", if you saw that movie. GREAT tune (and movie)!
Such a good song. Memories galore.
Love the guitar bridge.
love this tune
The live video is awesome ,
Good. The longer version)
Need to check out The Winery Dogs remake of this song!
A serious make out song in the 70s. Mickey Thomas also the lead singer for Jefferson Starship in the 80s
Sister Sledge has a song called "You Fooled Around (and fell in love)". On their album "Love Somebody Today".
Good song 🎵
What a GREAT song!
Great song. The Winery Dogs have a great live version of this one.
Love the Pretenders shirt. I wish y'all were my neighbors. It'd be cool to hang out.
What a song.
Love this song. Found it via Boogie Nights OST.
Should really see the Midnight Special live. Mickey Thomas is singing this (was backup singer) because Elvin Bishop didn't think his voice suited the song. Elvin is the guitarist.
Great jam. Classic.
Odd. I haven't heard this in 45 years, but it sounds like I just heard it yesterday.
Mickey Thomas never sounded better! This is a great tune to crank up in the car … and then sing along!
Thanks for doing this. One of my favorites.
I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas music, but this band does an amazing rock-and-roll version of 'Silent Night'. Mickey Thomas' vocals are terrific on it.
NICE SHIRT, BRAD!!! 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻 Do any Pretenders song. Fire band 🔥
Mickey Thomas is a great vocalist . Amazing voice . Check out his work on Jefferson starship and starship
Met his Waterloo! It happens so often.
Elvin Bishop from Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Such a great song when I was growing up. I called this song, Belly rubbing music, you know slow dancing.
And Mickey went out to be part of Jefferson Starship…love him on their song “Jane” ..
One of my all time favorite...... Got a good one for you. Junk food Junkie by Larry Croce
That was my theme song back in the day....
You guys gotta check out the winery dogs cover of this awesome song!
Mickey Thomas went on to be a member of Starship, the last iteration of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship... Yep, that's him on "We Built This City"...
I know this song i know all the lyrics great song
The singer is Mickey Thomas who was a backup singer.
Morgan James have done a cover of this one, that´s great too. Listen to it!
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦👍🏻👏
Really like to see your reaction to
"Jason Isbell "
Live from Austin City Limits Song is

You gonna adore this song too Keep the good work Guys 👍🏻✌️👍🏻🙏
Fun to dance to.
Charles Daniel’s band had a song, one half bar said:
“Elvin Bishop sittin’ on a bale of hay, well, he ain’t good looking but he sure can play!”
Sure could ‘saang’ too!
good vibes!
thx… that’s my generation.
Nice t-shirt, Brad.
