I love your method! Thank you so much for sharing it! I had tried a few other methods that just did not work for me, in one way or another. Yours makes the most sense to me. Love it!!
I made two of these Advent Calendars and they came out beautiful. Your tutorial was so perfect, I had no issues and everyone thought they were amazing. Thanks so much!! Judy
Just finished making one. Thank you so much. Just need to fill the boxes with sweets, jewelry etc... Hoping my daughter will like it. Can't wait to be the 1st Dec ! ❄⛄
What a great tutorial, thank You! The boxes are genius, and the 1/2" spacer idea is as well. I'll be using your tutorial to make my own calendar this year.
I was planning on doing a totally different one but then I saw yours and was blown away. I love the book look. You did such an amazing job. Thank you so much for sharing. My nieces are going to love this.
Love this idea. Great job. Definitely going to make it this year. Since I have made quite a few Christmas albums, the left over pieces will work great.
I have been looking for a tutorial to make my first Advent calendar. I wanted it to be in a book format so that I could keep and hopefully inspire my grandkids to make their own. I think that in this case, I have found it. Not only does it look like something that I could recreate but it is also exceptionally beautiful. I know that this video is from 5 years ago and I probably won't be able to find the ‘Nostalgic and Jingle’ collection but Hobby Lobby has many nice scrapbooks. Thank you so much for sharing… Happy Holiday to you and your family ❤
Thanks so much for this good tutorial. Easiest way ever to make boxes, great. I just finished a similar calender with boxes I bought, but it is more fun to do it your way. Instead of tyvac you can use some larger width one sided adhesive tape to reinforce the spine connection to the covers. And I also recommend doing it otherwise it will be instable. Also the idea with spacer papers is great, all looks nice and even then. Have a beautiful advent time and blessed x Mas, all my best wishes from Maria, Germany❤
Wow!! This is so well crafted and such a fun project!!! I am always looking for new ways to satisfy my crafting love of paper. You did a beautiful job! Plus it would ship well. Love the way you embellished the cover. So inspiring. Thank you for the inspiration!
Hi, what a great tutorial for the advent calendar! I know you made this a few years ago but I learned some new tricks from you in 2021 😁 will give this one a try! Have a great Christmas 🎄 Tfs, greetings from the Netherlands 🇱🇺 🤗 Sandra
Where did you find your tool to cut your corners? Awesome tool to have. What is the name of it? Thanks 🙏 so much for sharing. Beautiful job. God Bless.
I love that little miter tool. It's very helpful! Found it on Etsy. Here's the link in case you're interested: www.etsy.com/listing/254521284/bookbinding-miter-tool-corner-miter-tool
I made a box! Out of regular paper! I got some card stock out of the cabinet! AND I MADE ANOTHER BOX!!!!! WOOT!!!....wait...I gotta make 25 of these....?
Just what I was looking for! Thanks! Also, wondering about that little mitre tool you used for trimming the corners. Sure easier than "eye--balling: every corner. Much more accurate.
I love that little miter tool. It's very helpful! Found it on Etsy. Here's the link in case you're interested: www.etsy.com/listing/254521284/bookbinding-miter-tool-corner-miter-tool
How did you adhere the boxes so they don’t come off when you pull the lid off? Did you use tape or glue? Also what was the length of the res ribbon on each side, approximately? Thanks I’m so excited at how my boxes are coming together. So simple but a bit time intensive.
Hi! I used 3-In-1 Craft Glue by Beacon to glue the boxes to my inside covers. This is what it looks like: www.amazon.com/Beacon-314OZ-314OZBOT12-Glue-Multicolor/dp/B001683NAO/ It gives you some wiggle time to adjust the boxes right where you want them before sticking on permanently. I'm perpetually lopsided! So I always need that wiggle room to adjust accordingly. You can find this glue at most craft stores like AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, Joanns etc. My ribbon was about 10" - 12" inches on each side. Yes, making the boxes is a bit time consuming but the end result makes it all worth while! Good luck & hope this helps!
Thanks for such a great tutorial Kay. I plan on making two of these for the last two grandsons this year! 😉. I have been looking for Tyvek envelopes but I can only find them in bulk, much greater quantities than I need. Is there something else that would work instead?
Sometimes the post office has Tyvek envelopes available for free. You can cut those up & use. Another item I've used is duck tape. They sell transparent duck tape or it can be any color really since it will be covered. Also in most craft stores in the Cricut area they sometimes sell loose vinyl sheets--I've used this too. Basically anything that doesn't tear you can use as reenforcement. I hope this helps.
The designer paper for the spine measured 5" x 11" inches. The Tyvek measured 4 3/4" x 10" inches. It's an inch shorter in height because that's how big the Tyvek envelope I cut the piece from was. I didn't have 11" inch Tyvek envelopes. Hope this helps!
Sure! Lets see you'll need: designer paper, medium weight chipboard for the covers & spine, card stock (I used 65 lb weight card stock for the bottom part of my boxes), wet and/or dry adhesive (whichever works best for you), trimmer, bone folder, ribbon for the closure, numbers to place on each box these can be stickers, printable graphics etc. Some holiday designer papers come with the numbers as part of the collection.
I have just discovered your channel and the beautiful advent calender tutorial. I have now subscribed, and will be making this advent calender, it is beautiful. Hope my one turns out as lovely. Thankyou fir sharing. 🙂
I love this craft, thank you so much for giving us such an in depth tutorial on how to make them. I'll be getting to work on some for my nieces and nephews who live far away :)
Hey, I love this so much!! But what kind of glue are you using? I got half way through my first box and hot glue wasn’t cutting it to get the spine to stick to the cover and back and ended up using e6000 glue and it’s so toxic the whole thing smells and I’m pretty sure it’s all wrecked now :(
Hi! I used 3-In-1 Craft Glue by Beacon to glue the boxes to my inside covers. Kay F Awh thank you so much!! I actually just finished the 3 boxes last night, I ended up using modge podge haha it took forever but they turned out adorable! Thanks so much for the idea!!!
Hi! The piece of designer paper that connects the front & back cover to the spine measures 11" inches high by 5" inches wide. 3" inches that covers the spine then 1" inch to connect the front & back cover--so 2" inches for a total of 5" inches. Hope this helps. Kay
My daughter loves projects like this, I allowed her to buy the bigger boxes of cereal so I can use the cardboard.... lol do you have written instructions for this?
Hi, Kay. Finally am ready to assemble my 2 books. All boxes are made but had to set the project aside for a while. I have a question about the piece of DSP for the outside of the spine. When you attach your Tyvek to the inside of that strip, it appears to me that the top and bottom of the DSP are raw edges, or did you fold them in. Can't really tell from watching the video.
Hi Dianne, I wrapped the spine itself in designer paper; so all sides are covered in the paper. For the strip of designer paper that is seen on the backside (outside) of the spine; this piece is not folded over on the top or bottom. It is flush against the top & bottom borders. Hope this helps!
Well, all done! I would love to send you photos of how they turned out. Don’t know if you accept photos. Your instructions were amazing. Wish I had seen this before I did the EIGHT previous calendars for the other grandchildren. 🤣🤣🤣
Hello, some arts & crafts stores like Michaels carry chipboard--I've for the most part, have bought my chipboard from Amazon. Just search for 'chipboard' & you should find several hits for chipboard in a variety of sizes & thickness.

Great information, Kay Thanks!!! 😊. I actually have some rolls of Cricut vinyl so will probably go with that.
What is the measurements for the spine with the tybac please
The designer paper for the spine measured 5" x 11" inches. The Tyvek measured 4 3/4" x 10" inches. It's an inch shorter in height because that's how big the Tyvek envelope I cut the piece from was. I didn't have 11" inch Tyvek envelopes. Hope this helps!

Do you have a link for a step by step? I want to make these for cookies!!!
Hi Tiffany, I just have this video tutorial; no link with a step-by-step. Thank you!
I love this craft, thank you so much for giving us such an in depth tutorial on how to make them. I'll be getting to work on some for my nieces and nephews who live far away :)
Just an FYI.. You can get free Tyvek envelopes from USPS!
Thank you for the tip!
Yes, but if not used for mailing you can be fined. It happened to a lady on one of the RUclips videos using the boxes.

Kay F haha before my husband wonders what is going on in his account it’s his wife Brianna :) thanks again!!
What is the size of the outside spine? The part that connects the front and back.
Hi! The piece of designer paper that connects the front & back cover to the spine measures 11" inches high by 5" inches wide. 3" inches that covers the spine then 1" inch to connect the front & back cover--so 2" inches for a total of 5" inches. Hope this helps. Kay

@@themidnightkraftdesk Thanks, Kay. That is what I thought. 😉
Well, all done! I would love to send you photos of how they turned out. Don’t know if you accept photos. Your instructions were amazing. Wish I had seen this before I did the EIGHT previous calendars for the other grandchildren. 🤣🤣🤣
I wouldn't mind at all to see your finished work! You can send to kay.lorena[at]yahoo.com. Thanks again!
What is the size of your type and the size of the back piece
Where do you find chipboard?
Hello, some arts & crafts stores like Michaels carry chipboard--I've for the most part, have bought my chipboard from Amazon. Just search for 'chipboard' & you should find several hits for chipboard in a variety of sizes & thickness.
Ilove you much
Love it! Where did you buy your chipboard?
Also what glue do you like to use?
I purchased the chipboard from Amazon. Look for medium weight chipboard 12"x12".
I use either the clear dry glue by Art Glitter, 3-in-1 clear dry glue by Beacon or double sided tape depending on what I'm adhering. Thanks!
A Will 🙏🏼 in cm ????
