I have a blockage in my small intestine by the bile duct, Dr said try milk of mag every four hrs. Didn't poop. Then they said do miralax, 14 caps with half gal of Gatorade or power aid in 4 hrs, that much liquid would nit fit into my stumic in that about if time, I did take it all liquids are coming out but still not poop. Next day done 6 caps, I am also taking 2 extra strength senacot 3times a day now for 4 days no poop, been on liquid diet for almost 2 wks. I'm kinda scared Dr closed till Monday. I'm drinking 80-100 oz water. Broths, jello, juices, and power aids. I am a tiny bit better than I was the money b4 new years, not still having bad stumic/liver/ gallbladder pain, some grumbles in the guts, no pain, but no poop

Doctor Chung suggested a year ago after I had hemorrhoid surgery that people should consider taking MiraLAX daily FOREVER if you feel like your body needs it. I tried several different options but MiraLAX has been the answer. Every day ( 1 cap ) plus a veggie smoothie everyday for fiber and lots of water and thank God I’ve never been so regular. Thank you Doctor Chung 🙏🏻❤️

This may not help everyone but after 40 years of intermittent constipation (including a hemorroidectomy around age 50) I have finally found what works for me. #1 Make sure you drink plenty of water (like a full gallon per day if you're a 200 lb man). I have an alarm set on my watch to remind me to drink every 4 hours. #2 Unless you're positive you're getting enough fiber in your diet, I recommend a rounded tablespoon of Metamucil in a glass of water 3 times a day. (If you forget, a couple capsules of stool softener at bedtime will usually suffice.) #3 I stop eating every day by 6 PM (my bedtime is about 10 PM). #4 if you feel like you have to go but can hold off for a few minutes, take a walk around the house before you sit on the toilet; it often helps achieve a full evacuation. Finally, don't sit and strain; if nothing is coming out, get up and wait a few minutes more so you don't develop hemorrohoids. Believe me, the discomfort of constipation is nothing compared to the agony of your first poop after a hemorroidectomy!

I’ve been taking Miralax daily for years. My rear end is a train wreck after decades of constipation. I take a cap full of Miralax in my coffee and a couple hours later with breakfast a tablespoon of Metamucil daily. I go daily sometimes multiple times. I wish I was normal but as a senior it’s just not the case. I do what works.

Great info, thanks doc. You mentioned in another video Miralax is safe for long term use daily. Just wanted to point that out in case others were wondering.
As for myself, I take a half tablespoon of psyllium husk in the morning and a capful of Miralax before dinner. Plenty of water throughout the day. I’ve never been so regular and all my constipation has gone away.

miralax got me through a rough patch of back to back hemorrhoid flair ups. i was suffering horribly over the summer. (also due to stress) i started watching your videos then i asked my doctor about miralax because my dad used to take it, & he said it was safe. i usually avoid medication at all cost but it has become a saving grace for me. i usually eat in the evening after work so i take a cap with my meal & it works phenomenal! i keep a bottle on me everywhere i go lol before miralax i tried different diets and the whole “eat more fiber” etc it would help but sometimes you have to listen to your body. i’ve been taking it for about 4 months with zero negative side effects. i started slow but one full cap a day with my first meal does the job for me.

Thank you for clear instructions. I just got out of the hospital diagnosed with Pan Colitis and treated with antibiotics for 7 days and diagnosed wrong by ER. We asked for a GI consult. I was pooping small amount all day long and for days. The go lightly prep for the colonoscopy. It did make me ill drinking it, but I slowed down. Suddenly I felt a pain I never had before. I was in pain for a week, nausea, wrenching and all the pain meds they gave me helped to total constipate me even more. It felt like I was birthing a poop. When it passed, the flow of water was amazing and the pain I was in all week long. I was impacted with poop, not colitis! I had a new GI dr and the Colin was normal with slow digestion. So I have been using miralax. It is trial and diarrhea, lessened to 1/2 a cap… still same, so I am trying less while talking to my new GI dr. Thank you for your videos, they really do help,

I really appreciate your videos you have provided. My son is on the spectrum and is a teenager. He has internal hemorrhoids and he has been taking a half dose of miralax daily with his breakfast while they are healing. After the bleeding was done we tried discontinuing the miralax and it started all over again. Hearing from you that long term use here is ok makes me breath easier. We were able to go to half a dose every other day after the bleeding started to let up. I really think that this is something he will need to have for a longer term help. He eats plenty of fruits and veggies and he still wasn't going for 3-4 days at a time.

I took this many, many times due to hemorrhoids. My advice is do not take a full dose unless you need to. I usually took a partial dose just enough as needed to get the job done. In the long run I have switched to a very low fibre diet and it has helped immensely. I was told by the doc that did the banding to go high fibre with Metamucil supplement and it just caused a really upset stomach and more hemorrhoids.

Dear Doctor Chung: your suggested use of Miralax is the only reason why my suffering with hemorrhoid, which had lasted since I was 20 something and I'm 50 something now, to be gone for good.
May I suggest those who are interested to use a digital kitchen scale to keep track of your intake thus able to calibrate your dosage gram by gram.

I'm young and I take a Tablespoon daily (about 10-11 grams). I had a surgery and had to go on some medications that simply dried out my body on purpose after the surgery. So I needed the strong water bonding that Miralax provided to keep me pooping. Once I found my perfect dose, I just decided to stay on it because it truly combated the ups and downs of being on daily medicines that dehydrated me on purpose. It's a relief to be in better control and not to have to wonder when the constipation will strike me. There's nothing worse than constipation.

I have the same problem. What works for me is to drink the Miralax (dissolved in water) with my biggest, noon meal that consists of a large salad with lettuce, chopped up hard boiled egg, artichoke hearts, pecans, and dressing. Then, I have a plate of steamed green beans, boiled but firm baby carrots, canned corn, sometimes acorn squash. I do drizzle a bit of olive oil or butter over the veggies. In other words, lots of veggies. I take sips of the Miralax throughout the meal to ensure it is mixed with the food. I also toast a slice of Ezekiel Bread to accompany the salad. Throughout the day I drink 8-9 glasses of water. I walk a couple miles every other day.
The evening meal is also heavy on veggies. I really love the frozen, Healthy Choice Power Bowls, like Adobo Chicken. I have trained my body to poop at the same time once or twice a day. If I miss the poop session, it leads to problems like constipation and flare up of hemorrhoids with bleeding.
This is what works for me, so you should modify it to your specific food preferences. But basically, it’s lots of fresh veggies, with Miralax in water or other liquid, exercise, lots of water throughout the day.
Best of luck. I know what you’re going through.

I take a nightly magnesium citrate supplement before bed per my cardiologist for several years now. I have used Miralax full capful once a day for 6 days per another doctor who knew of my magnesium. All went well, I guess, but should I be careful given the daily supplement?

Dr. Chung, is it safe to take miralax everyday with hemmorhoids? I really do feel like it helps me not strain, this aiding in my hemmorhoidal healing.

@@AmalAli-dd9tt This is my personal experience, not from an MD. I’ve had hemorrhoids for 50 years. They do not go away, but you can live with them if you take precautions: stool softeners like Miralax, lots of water, exercise, veggies and fruits, definitely do not PUSH to poop. When you push, they will enlarge. If your roids are smaller, then consider banding. Mine are too large for that procedure, so I would need surgery which I am avoiding. I wish I had banding done earlier, followed by taking precautions. Otherwise, if you get constipated and push, more will be generated.

Hi doctor, this isnt related to the video but i figured id try asking here... So for the past month ive been suffering from extreme constipation. Ive been able to let out like a small pellet once a week, if that. Now im starting to feel like a pressure sensation on the left side of my tummy. I think its where the colon is. I'm assuming that there is poop stuck there from this past month and ive tried laxatives and nothing. Im scared and embarrassed to go to the hospital but i dont know what to do from home? Oh... Some helpful info, im addicted to opiates. Ive suffered from constipation because of it, for years. But ive always been able to go at least 2-3 times a week. Its never been this bad.

Thank you so much been wondering about this for years! I have been taking it for years.
One thing I didn't see you cover was that as well as ANTI FREEZE there is a lot of stuff linking osmotic laxatives to dementia / alzheimers. I have no idea why this is the case but isn't PEG technically an osmotic laxative? It deffo has been worrried because I am unable to reduce my dosage without getting very hard stool. Other options didn't work for me so I will be on this dose for life.

Doctor, I have an abscess right next to my fissure. the abscess burst on its own and ive been using antibiotics. Should I keep applying GTN or would it irritate the abscess? theyre right next to each other so its hard to avoid. And my GP said they cant put a dressing on the abscess as it is in an awkward positioning (halfway in). The fissure keeps healing with this thin layer of whiteish skin and retearing that layer in (imo) what seems to be the final stages of healing. theres no pain from fissure. ive been drinking water, stool softner, etc too.
