Trying out the Initial D myth of drifting with a paper cup full of water without spilling to protect the tofu!
!!!!!!DISCLAIMER!!!!!! THIS IS NOT A SCIENTIFIC TEST! This all for fun so enjoy the ride!
Drifting at Englishtown Raceway Park NJ Clubloose Spring Moves event!
I do not have the A/C vent cup holder but fortunately the ash tray held the cup pretty well.

To be fair, Takumi did spend 5 years perfecting the paper cup drift, and he admits that it spilled at first.

If Takumi’s great grandparents were there, they would’ve sent you to the shadow realm
if takumi's great great grandfather was there he would have bent time and space to a point where he never even existed in the first place
This showed a few things:
1. You are not Takumi.
2. Your acceleration is not the same as Takumi.
3. You are not going downhill or uphill. ;)
exactly my point
The car isnt magic like in the anime
^ Actual good point
Anyway, sure, acceleration wasn't smooth, drifting maybe wasn't smooth, but the road itself probably is bumpy, and Akina probably is even bumpier, the water would came out anyway.
You could say "Well Takumi known Akina better then his ballsack" but, that doesn't mean you can "smoothly go accross every bump".
Physics are physics. Initial D, as much as i love it, seriously, best anime 10/10 would fap to it again, the Ae86 isn't following physics almost at all, lol
But the water cup thing sureley could be a nice driving exercise (Not only drifting, 'cause you need to regulate the acceleration, turning angle and speed and other stuff)
My roads are very bumpy and I was able to drive normal without spilling the water. I was doing 45-70mph most of the time. I did it when I first started driving learn how to drive smoother. I don't about drifting but my autox car control is very good even in the rain I never spun out once. If you think I just wasn't driving it hard enough, I let a instructor who was a nat champ drive my car and my time was only .5 sec slower.
cool story bro
I guess Bunta's gonna be mad at you now

That's true, Siknik64. Soooo, the test are a big fail lol
Jeff Yuan I know they didn't come with cup holders. I own a Camry from the same year. You're holding that bitch in the car. Also, my main point was that because the angle of the cup was changed, it is quite possible that the water was able to more easily escape from the cup.

And that he's had years practicing keeping the cup from spilling over. As takumi did. (Ps. I know this is old just saying(
plus his drifting looked awful he was all over the place

Even Takumi couldn't do it for 6 months, how can any of us do it in a single 4 minute video?
No one cares to find out. That is why they are talking shit as if Takumi is some superhuman that can do it on his first try. Takumi himself already said he didn't get it right until like half a year or more.
The comments are amazing 😆 everyone standing up for Takumi and Bunta
Most of them probably only watch the battle parts and no the story part. Takumi didn't even get this one until MONTHS later.
First of all, its not drifting with a paper cup. *HE TRIES TO DRIVE SMOOTHLY ON THE UPHILL WHEN DELIVERING THE TOFU TO AVOID SPILLING THE WATER AND DESTRYOING THE TOFU* after that he drives downhill as fast as he can to improve his delivery times and to get sleep early too

I think Takumi mentions in First Stage that he can drift without spilling the water.
David Kong yes, but that is after all driving that he being through. He not drifting with the paper cup for the first time.

Tofu damaged. Mission failed. Try again? Your driving was wayy too fast to safely deliver tofu and not spill water lol
No, takumi is even faster.
3:14 the answer is A
Absolutely A. He's not gentle in driving.
If you can't accelerate without spilling water it means you're not trying at all.
I mean the whole Idea will only work if you have some ridiculously good suspension and you are going really slow to avoid the g-force of turning spill the water. Now If the cup had one direction of it's edge raised really high, then it would make sense. But I still thought it was cool when I was a kid when the mystery wasn't broken yet :D
Gnana Prakash I think it is possible, I mean the anime is based off of the drift master and it stated that he spilled the cup many times and I "think", it also has to do with that akina is down hill while this is a flat track, don't quote me on any of this I am not an expert
I don't mean to completely wrong your comment as there is a small amount of truth to your downhill argument but you also don't claim you're an expert so, let me tell as a Mechanical Engineer that it really is a very small difference and only is meaningful when the acceleration is straight downhill at the position of the car.
To make my comment simpler to understand, let's say the car moves around a corner at a modest 0.5 G, it means the resultant horizontal acceleration experienced by mass in the car is 0.5+1Gs(vector addition) and the resultant direction of the acceleration means that there will be about 27 degree of angle by the water surface. This mean if the cup is 10 cm in diameter, then the walls above the water must be atleast 2.5 cm or about an inch. That sounds very reasonable to manage until you consider that 0.5 g is too small compared what the anime portrays the norm for these guys drifting around corners at sometimes 100 kmph. I mean if they move at 20mps or 72kmph, around a corner with 500meters turning radius, it would need atleast 0.8 Gs of cornering acceleration and all of this is without accounting for the random bumps or skids etc that are impossible to avoid on a regular road. yes even those who run the course daily cannot know all the changes without atleast driving on them once and the cup ride is the first one of the day. So, yeah as big a fan I am of this show, this is just a fantasy element put into the show to make it exciting for the introduction of the show. That's all there is to it.
ruclips.net/video/TES6rseZbBA/видео.html this guy did it without spilling
Lowrider Life not bad but the water level is way lower than in the show and he was driving much slower too.
Takumi poured the water out and when he got back he just refilled the cup.
ok, but the meaning of not to poure the water is to preserve the tofu, so...
SEXY VIDS was the tofu liquid?
The tofu was transported in water and if he wasn't smooth all the tofu would slosh around and break into little pieces.
first it's a cartoon, second you could transport tofu with motocross while shredding some trail and the tofu will be fine as long you cut the into smaller pieces first instead using big cube one.

You know, even Takumi had a hard time driving with the cup at first, he said so in the anime; but he kept practicing every night.
Don't think it is a realistic aspect, it is just for the epicness of the anime.
well takumi also state to his father that there seem to be more water over time. ;)
jsx17 yeah I don’t think he ever had a full cup til he started racing
I don't think it's really physically possible, I mean sure on a plane you can have a cup of water without it spilling but when drifting you're constantly changing direction and I think the momentum would cause the water to spill anyways
obviously not using intertia drift
:)
it spilled before he even drifted
regardless of how you start the drift, the cup will always end up at least half empty.

First of all, Takumi said he spilled a lot of water when he first started delivering. Second of all, it's your first time. And for that you weren't bad at all. With a little bit practice I think it could work. And then, Takumi was driving on a Mountain- pass with straightwaways which makes it "easier". So yea.

Drifting is a thing, normal driving is another thing
"So we have an AE86" *Is left hand drive* Ok
AE86s were built left hand drive, too. US spec, Euro spec and even Middle East spec. So I don't understand your comment actually.
There is no such thing as a USDM AE86. There are several sources on the Internet to back this. Hell even Wikipedia states it
umm... this is just plain wrong.
Messed up the privacy settings of my second comment. AE86 stands for the chassis and guess what, USDM cars have AE86 chassis codes. The VIN has a AE88 in the DOHC 4A-GEC (C for California). Is your car a 4A-GEx and has a AE86 chassis that car is considered an AE86. If it has a SOHC 4A-C or similar it is an AE85. Ask Toyota why they used those VIN's and Chassis code combinations. Or the Californian government for ridiculous emission standards. :)
Whatever dude. lol what a troll
the cup was only there for smooth driving during slow uphill delivery without any drifting or hard braking.
it's mentioned in the anime that he only went fast downhill on the way back
10/10 this is the kind of content I want to watch
But start it over and over and try not to spill, its not about trying too hard to drift, its about feeling the balance of the car, not spilling the water will make you go faster in corners not drift more :)
thank you, finally someone gets why drifting is having trouble taking off properly in western culture, because they missed the point of drifting.
you can't drift at all without spilling at least half of the cup.
So can ANY of you guys drive without spilling?
I'm pretty damn sure it's impossible during high speed driving
The possibility is there but it's not easy also like the guy said it's already tilted, but like these are saying it's more about weight transfer not power
I mean, you could say the possibility is there about banging extraterrestrial women like Captain Kirk.
But has anyone on this planet done it?

Kyoto-Moto no such thing as an 88 dude just because you see it in the vin.
if I remember correctly bunta did say it took lots of deliveries before takumi was good. when bunta started it he came back soaking wet no water left in the cup damaged tofu slower times. it is possible
Car: *Drives*
Cup: *RUNNING IN THE 90s*
I know I'm late but thank you for actually doing it
1:46 ...watch closely the cup. Part of the myth is proved true here, you can see he actually rolls the water in the cup just like the show as he switches direction, but once he gets going, the G's pull more water out...and onto his leg XD
But it's due to his jerky control not the car or the drifting itself. As someone else posted, I'm not saying that it is possible or that I could do better, but this guy needs a lot more skill before even attempting something like this. His control looks like the kind of thing that you would see in a Walmart parking lot at 2am
Trueflight Silverwing you must live in a fun place if you got people driving well on walmart parking lots instead of doing shitty handbrake slideshows
Either than or you bash on people on internet for sake of your ego
dsa dsa he didn’t really bash him and he said he couldn’t do much better.. the point of the whole cup thing is like training. To keep doing it until you aren’t spilling any and gave full control of your car. I feel like it’s a stretch to say it’s an ego boost for saying the obvious.. he’s no overpowered mc anime driver
There are several factors to consider. First, Takumi wasn't as rough on the steering as you were. He seemed pretty well in control. Probably having more control than a person should realistically have. Second, you might have been driving too fast or not shifting the weight correctly. The most important thing to consider, though, is that Initial D is a work of fiction. Even if everything in it is possible, it might not be probable. The characters push things seemingly beyond human capability.
***** I point out to you where I said "He seemed pretty well in control. Probably having more control than a person should realistically have." and where I said "Initial D is a work of fiction. Even if everything in it is possible, it might not be probable. The characters push things seemingly beyond human capability." and I ask you, where do you see me thinking that what I see in a cartoon (japanese, by the way, not chinese) is something you can replicate in real life?
Now, if by chance this comment of yours was meant for the guy in the video, then I question why you asked this to me and not to the video.
You were expecting Mongolian moving pictures to be accurate?

horrible drifting... the point of this test is not to spill water. this guy's going to need to practice more if he want to drift like takumi
Danxity BPC riiight??? Shit bro he lost control so many times
LOL
its hurt me
You miss the point by a mile. You drive normally and water spill, no surprise. What you did is the equivalent of doing the "walking with a book on top of your head" training, then walk normally and the book falls. Then you turn around and say it's not possible.
The point is you have to adapt your driving, and then, only then, do the smoothest drift possible and if the water spill, then it's busted.
Drift you think these monkeys can drift that smoothly? You did watch how Jeremy movements were right?
It is possible, you just need to be consistent with how smooth you drive from 0 - whatever speed you go.
Yeah um at the end he says that it's probably because he's a shit driver... maybe watch the whole video before posting your passive aggressive essay...
@@alianouer8619 getting straight to the facts
@@corey_the_bird3086 exactly
If you drive normally, you actually wont apill it. Its all about acceleration (and harmonics I guess, but that is so far beyond your understanding of physics I wont bother). The water will attempt to stay horizontal to the local acceleration of the car.
Which is determimed by the summation of gravity, and the road acceleration.
The faster you you move, the higher you need to accelerate in a corner to take it at a given radius of arc.
Ergo, the better you race, the more likely you are to apill the water.
what specific model of the AE86 is that, and how much do they go for?
Those confettis are goddamn beautiful
keep in mind that takumi said that it took him a while to be able to drift without spilling the water
it's fictional.
Nick Amarit well depends how much weight in tofu you have and top of that he started out slow he went speeding up and up practice makes perfect like music it can be possible
It is possible, what happened is that you made a very crazy drift, you were not smooth in the changes and in the braking, Bunta gives the glass of water to Takumi so that he can control the soft car without damaging the tofu that translates into smooth changes And precise, controlled weight shift, controlled braking and controlled drift ... basically you need a lot of precision and not say that it is impossible ....
Possible going downhill?
It is completely impossible you fucking doofus, the ae86 growing wings was more realistic than this cup of water clown fiesta
dsa dsa I also think it's impossible. Because when he accelerates it spills . You can't roll the water if your not changing directions .

A man needs to know his limitations. You sir, are no Takumi.
Nice video, Iiked when the water went horizontal.
You got to remember that takumi perfected the paper cup drift in a couple of months while drifting and going downhill in dangerously fast speeds.
You are at Takumi's level, when he was 13 years old.
You clearly just didn't play the Eurobeat loud enough.
-What is he doing?
-He's beginning to believe.
Man all these people bitching about your driving style and success of the myth. You did better than I probably would have. Haha. Props for giving it a shot and posting it. I really enjoyed this.
...broken tofu 😥
you could never be an Akina speed star.
Same drifting track as ChrisFix too :D
You’ve underestimated the skills of Takumi Fujiwara my friend
For a cup that's almost full I would assume you would have to drive nearly smooth as automatic and the pavement would have to be completely flat too :|
Automatic still jerks during gear changes... you need a 1-gear Tesla's smoothness.
takumi has been drived allways in the mountain
+joshua gomez even if Tak drives in the mountains all the time, it still doesn't make it possible to drive properly without spilling.
yes it does, keiichi tsuchiya overlooked the show. it is all factual and possible.
Hachi Roku Were they in the mountains? On public roads? How fast were they going?
That was some crazy Iketani drifting!
:-D
i appreciate the eurobeat in the background
“An inch of water” the American dream!
Now there's tofu everywhere...
the point of the cup is to reach neutral g force
No, it's to work on smooth weight shifting, gear changes, throttle/brake/steering inputs. Basically just smooth driving, which will let you make the most of the grip you have, whereas abrupt inputs would unsettle the car much earlier. Neutral g force would be falling towards the centre of the earth at 1m/s2, or floating in space lol :P
We have to keep in mind that "drifters" are just out there to perform while Bunta was training Takumi to be as fast as possible. Driftrs will overdrift the car because it's all about the show.
+Simon T Either you are trolling or dumb. By G-Force he obviously meant the acceleration perpendicular to Earth's gravity. Acceleration is sometimes measured in G's, where one G equals the acceleration caused by Earth's gravity.
The water moves only when you apply force to it, and as we know Force = mass x acceleration. If acceleration = 0, then Force = 0, in which case the water will stay still.
CubeBizz No sh*t. But you can't have 0G (or neutral G as the OP said) in a corner so I have no clue what the hell point you are trying to make. My comment was accurate, you're the troll/dumb one here.
Simon T You are wrong, let's list all the forces affecting a car in a drift:
1. Traction from front wheels
2. Acceleration from rear wheels
It's perfectly possible, yet not easy, to have the vectors of both nullify each other to the point where total acceleration is nearly 0.
In anime, Takumi drifts with tofu on downhill. Without this, water spills while ccelerating.
Just the moment I saw it spilling to the right, and figured there will be an opposite corner, I was already laughing thinking he'll spill with the car when he gets wet :"D
u sir, is obviously not as good as takumi. if ur shifts were smoother, water wont spill. nuff said lol
lol someone has a lot to learn haha
he didn't even four wheel drift
Finally someone did it. Now i can die in peace
I think this happened to takumi too. He was like "dad, i am ready" but his dad was "No you are not. There is one more thing to do" and takumi was "W-what is it?" and bunta was "The paper cup drift" and takumi was like "But it is impossible"
1:39 rip tofu :((
Only when the family tofu is on the line are you motivated to not spill the water haha
