I think also people are forgetting that in That 70s show the kids were around 17-18 with the actors themselves being that age or a bit older (18-20yrs, except for Mila). Where in this show the kids are meant to be 14-15 and the oldest actor is maybe 18 with the youngest being 13 so of course they are going to seem more childish and some of the child actors are from Disney or Nickelodeon shows. At this point it's up to the directors to direct the kids to not be so "disney" - as it is one of the more common complaints I seem to see about this show and the young acting.
Younger kids these days are staying away from harsh drugs and bad decisions, unlike kids back in the day. So they're looking like babies when they're almost 20.
More like they’re directed into still a slight Disney vibe, because they’re not disneyish in real life... but it’s like if the people who made that 70s show moved it to the Disney channel, it definitely feels like both but the latter it’s also because they’re so young
Them forgetting Ozzie reminds me of when Eric forgets to pick up Donna from the radio station for the Prom and then drives to get her with a tornado 🌪 in the background lol
I like Leia as the protagonist... She gets herself into some weird moments, even more so than Eric... Like, Eric never grinded his father for one. Also her line "Lie to their sweet little faces?!" is really funny, she has no idea about those two.
It makes sense that Leia would be attracted to a Kelso, I mean Donna dated Casey Kelso back in the original show so it makes sense. Looks like Jay's inherited his father's sexual reputation

I do feel it might be a mix of the past and now, but that’s why the kids of now get so interested in how kids back then were like. The dynamics need to be split up differently. Like That 70s Show did with the Happy Days dynamics. Eric Foreman is Richie Cunningham. Same parents, stern but fair father, loving mother. But Kelso is an amalgam of The Fonz (gets the girls) and Potsie (stupid), Hyde is The Fonz (cool) and Ralph (chaotic), while Fez has traits of all three, Ralph (goofy), Potsie (sweet), and The Fonz (exotic). Jay Kelso seems more The Fonz and Ritchie (with just a little Potsie). Nate seems to be a Richie/Potsie mix. And Ozzie is The Fonz and Ralph. The girls are amalgams of (or straight up) That 70s Show characters though. Leia is Eric and Donna, Gwen is Hyde, and Nikki is Jackie and Donna.
Even before that 90s show was out, I had a feeling the Ozzie would be similar to Fez since I already seen Reyn Doi's previous tv show Side Hustle. In future seasons if we get to see his BF, i'm hoping it'll be his Side Hustle costar Mitchell Berg.

i wish the season had more episodes with the new cast being the focus. i mean, the cameos were great, but they dont hold the show. hope that in season 2 we get more focus on them
I was a little disappointed with the writing when Ozzie is looking through the Milwaukee paper. "Corn fest, corn fest, corn fest." WRONG! The summer of '95, Milwaukee had a different cultural festival every week, with Summerfest being the biggest party in southern Wisconsin. Almost any band you can think of, on 12 stages, sponsored by every Wisconsin beer brand you can think of.
I’m liking the show a little more each time I see an episode. Not a huge fan of the kids. Mostly ozzy his character just annoys me and I don’t really have something I can point to and say “that’s why”. To be fair I didn’t like fez all that much the first season either so I hope he will grow on me.
The worst one of the episodes. The writing is garbage. Couldn’t even get a techno song. Almost stopped watching after that one. Made it all the way through the disappointing season. Garbage. I graduated in 95
