I saw a taping of the show in the first season. My favorite character on the show was the sister Lori but she hadn't been on for a while so when the audience had a chance to ask questions I asked where she was. I immediately saw some of the cast shoot their eyes over at me and I was given some vague answer by some guy, maybe the director. I had no idea until years later she had been struggling with addiction.

I was in junior high/high school when the show aired and loved it. The great thing about it is that it any generation can enjoy it whether you grew up in the era or not
The lesson of Topher Grace is one that teaches you to follow your gut and not to follow something just because everyone else is doing it and pretending it's normal and okay. For years, perpetually, the rest of the cast hung out and did interviews and were so chummy Everyone treated Topher Grace like HE was the one trippin. Remember that. Think about that when you think about where Danny Masterson is and where Topher Grace gets to sit because he followed his gut.
I was 5 when the show first aired and my mom grew up in the 70s in small town Wisconsin so it was a great way for her to show me how she grew up and we bonded to closely watching it! ❤
I really only liked the first couple of seasons of That 70's Show, but Grace is always a great performer. He's got a mellow, deadpan charm that really works.
I used to watch this show growing up laughing like crazy. Then I started smoking weed and loved it even more. I’m now in recovery because of harder substances usage and don’t do weed anymore. And I am still laughing to the point of tears rewatching that 70’s show. It’s my favorite
I loved That's 70s Show and when Topher left those rumors that he was stuck up and believed he was better than everyone on the show got to me. Now we know, he was a good person who didn't want to be around the wrong type of people. Glad to see his career is doing well.
the fact that he said none of the kids in that 70s show could act yet the acting is FAR better than kids in that 90s show says a lot. no comparison - 90s show blows. And Topher looks so young!
My mom and I used to watch it and she had every season on disc, I recently showed it to my ex gf (now friend) and we still love it and watch it. The show is fucking amazing
Hexk Yeah. I loved this show especially once I became a teenager (the parts where they smoked weed)😉. Glad you and your EX can remain friends, I've never had success with that.
i know there's millions of people in my situation but i never hear anyone talk about this age frame with 70s show. I was born in 87 so the show became a hit right in those experimental years of middle school for me. grew up thru middle school, high school, and college with this show and it was like that pillar that was always there. that bro/sis there to comfort you whenever. something that wouldn't change among the changing world
I was born in 88 so I was 10 when the show started. For some reason I was fascinated by the 70s growing up, and I still remember my mom coming into my room to tell me "there's a show about the 70s that's coming out on tv soon", and little did I know, she was talking about this one! I'll never forget that.
I actually like the first season the best. There was something really organic about them figuring it all out together. It felt less produced and was more artistic and “far out”. The characters felt more authentic. The first season had true 70’s vibes.
i can't remember when i fell in love with that 70s show but it was such a big part of my life. My closest friend and I always watched it in high school and we compared ourselves to Hyde and Eric (I was Eric). It's one of my comfort shows and it makes me so upset that Netflix doesn't have it for streaming anymore. also took me forever to realize what the circle was
This kinda hits me with that 90's show as well. Not a perfect first season, but as the episodes went on and everyone grew into their pants a bit it became pretty good. I'm all for a second season of that show.
It just felt a little weird, seemed like everyone was trying a bittttttt hard, still had the 70s feel didn’t have tooo much of 90s reference i was expecting, the season was toooo short, they should have made it with atleast like 20 episodes, i kind of feel like they rushed it, being that they started to film like a year ago,
I was a tiny bit younger than the “teen” cast growing up. In my 40’s now, Topher is the only cast character whom I respected then … and now, outside of Kurt Smith and Debra Jo Rupp. So incredibly happy that Masterson’s victims got the justice they deserve. 🧑⚖️⚖️
I don't know how many times I've seen That 70's Show all the way through. I loved it so much. I actually got somewhat depressed when Eric and Donna broke up, yeah I know how sad. Eric was the best character, so funny. I still watch the scene when he destroys the wedding dress and absolutely lose it.
the thing is for me i love season 1 of that 70s show more than any other season of the other shows brought up i cans till go back and watch season 1 of that 70s show
it's like the singer of the 80's band Lover boy when he gets asked if he gets sick of their one hit song "working for the weekend". he still loves performing it, because it made his life what it is and made it far better. my point is, always appreciate your big break and everything that came because of it. Topher clearly understands he has everything in his life because of That 70's Show.
People go to school to learn how to deliver lines the way this guy does intuitively. The pause in the right place, the facial gestures - perfect. Also when he 'receives' the opposing actors lines as opposed to waiting to say his line. More actors need to take note of this. Acting is mostly REacting, and this guy ABSOLUTELY nails it. I miss him!
This interview is SO CUTE!!! You can tell how proud & fond he is of "70s." I FULLY relate to watching reruns of "70s" on UPN after elementary school. Then, one day, when I was older, it just CLICKED what they were really doing in the basement. I JUST rewatched & there was SO MUCH that my young mind missed! They really made it appeal to both adults & kids. I'd watch it with my dad & brother too. It was a family show. "Win a Date" is a CORE memory!!! I'm 11, UGLY SOBBING in the theater. My mom asked if I was alright. I was like "I hope they make a sequel."
Tbh im mindblowed by the fact that he knows abt the friends and that he compares to it i always seen it like that thats y those 2 shows will always be my favorite
I half to say my favorite character evolution was Fes. It was kind a like they didn't know what to do with him at the beginning but out of nothing the character had so much growth with the group and family it was insane.
All the time I felt kinda betrayed by Topher for leaving the show... When an actor leaves a show, specially a lead, it's like announcing its death. Noooooooow that we know all the scientology sht going on, I think he was right to go like "I gotta get the FK out of this place". Still love that 70s show and will watch it forever though.
Title is misleading since he doesn't really talk about WHY he left other than BRIEFLY mentioning things he experienced after leaving but nothing in this segment addresses the title in depth as I was hoping. Pathetic.
I first watched That 70's Show purely for the nostaliga, but was plesantly surprised that it was actually funny. Plus, it has one of the most profound ending scenes in television history - the count down to one on New Year's Eve and the final frame with the '80 license plate tag. Brilliant. Simply brilliant.
I watched it when I was 17 in 2001..it's a real coming of age show for me. It's amazing to think that the 90s are as long ago from now as the 70s was from when they made That 70s Show. Maybe someone should make a That 90s Show. Edit: Just looked at Topher Grace's imdb page and they're actually filming That 90s Show. haha can I get a credit?
I think what he’s pointing towards is character progression over time. So many shows (be it sitcoms or dramas) for me that I watched as a millennial fit that category where as time goes on, the characters really become real and grounded. Ive seen it in The OC, One Tree Hill, Parks & Rec, The Office, Friends, Dawson’s Creek, Big Bang Theory, Glee, How I Met Your Mother, Lost, 7th Heaven, Pretty Little Liars, etc.

@@RDSports5 It's also the fact that Kelso was gone too. So you lost 2 orginal characters not just Eric
I will never forget that episode when Michael was caught dressed up as a woman by Jackie's dad! I laughed my pants off at that. The show was never the same after Eric left
The show went from gold to shit after both he and Ashton left.
it's like when michael left the office... never the same show
How he talks about friends, that’s how in love I am with the 70’s show 💓
He's 43 but he looks 30
The actors, the Music, the stories. That 70’s show is Top 5 GOAT TV Sitcoms.
When I was 14, I got injured with knee surgery and a broken elbow. This show was on CW every day and for the 3-4 months I would get home and watch this and eventually watched it from start finish a few times. Such an amazing show. ❤️
What kind of looks ?
@@CIOptimusPrime Just like "I wonder how they are going to answer this" type of look, with everyones head turing at the same time. I only noticed because they weren't really paying attention to the others asking questions. For some reason I've never forgotten that.
@@stephanieworkman2629 Do you remember what the episode was about?
A interviewer was talking to the roseanne cast after the first cancelation and brought up the mark character, the actor had passed away.
I remember watching young and not realizing they were smoking. Until some kids did a similar skit for a school assembly, some one yelled it out. The veil was lifted! 🤣😂
Glad I'm not the only one lol. I remember setting up "the circle" in the bedroom because my room was in the basement. My mom told me they are smoking and I just started laughing hysterically
Topher is the only significant character from the show who was not a creep, predator, or belonged in a cult.
Why would you say that? There was only one that done wrong
They all wrote letters supporting that one guy too except Topher.
@@shellysafley3711 Only according to 2 disgruntled exes with no evidence
@verzen maybe because they never saw anything like what was accused happen. I'm more willing to take their word and character portrayal over a disgruntled ex who left scientology who accused 20 years later with zero evidence.
@@Hoop_23 Ok whatever you say Scientology bot. 🤣
Him leaving That 70’s Show was disastrous!!! What also made it a lose-lose situation was that the reason he left was to star in……….. Spider-Man 3
Star? No, but like most artist they want to branch out.
Plus how many times did you want to watch Kelso and Jackie hook up or Donna and Eric break up? At least he came back for the closure.
He took a chance abd did some good movies (company man was good)
Great interview. He seems so relaxed and genuine. Well done.
I was in junior high/high school when the show aired and loved it. The great thing about it is that it any generation can enjoy it whether you grew up in the era or not
I genuinely love listening to Topher. He’s so cool.
Man I am so mad they pulled the show off streaming platforms, truly a gem and blessed my childhood growing up.
The lesson of Topher Grace is one that teaches you to follow your gut and not to follow something just because everyone else is doing it and pretending it's normal and okay. For years, perpetually, the rest of the cast hung out and did interviews and were so chummy
Everyone treated Topher Grace like HE was the one trippin. Remember that. Think about that when you think about where Danny Masterson is and where Topher Grace gets to sit because he followed his gut.
Anyone notice he never talked about leaving t70s?
Yup.
Cinema, bigger paychecks was the intention.
Literally the only reason I watched it…
@@cmbells7736
Yeah, didn't he leave to play Venom for Spider-Man 3?
I loved That ‘70s Show. I was a teenager in the Seventies and I could relate to the show very well.
I was 5 when the show first aired and my mom grew up in the 70s in small town Wisconsin so it was a great way for her to show me how she grew up and we bonded to closely watching it! ❤
Season 1-3 were the best written in my opinion ❤️
Same
I really only liked the first couple of seasons of That 70's Show, but Grace is always a great performer.
Seasons 1-4 were sooo good. The show dipped a bit when they left high school.
i was a 97 baby but man this show helped me through my pre teen years and teen years, always love this show
the fact that he said none of the kids in that 70s show could act yet the acting is FAR better than kids in that 90s show says a lot. no comparison - 90s show blows. And Topher looks so young!
I LOVE That 70s . An underrated classic that never gets old. I hope they don't screw up That 90s show .
I'm in love Topher. We all make bad decisions but he really is better than ever
Who give a shit about your ex gf (now friend)
@@chvishal geez who peed in your Cheerios?
i know there's millions of people in my situation but i never hear anyone talk about this age frame with 70s show.
Was able to find the entire box set of that 70s show on dvd 🙏🏻 so happy since they took it off every platform
i got that for christmas in 2005 haha
I actually like the first season the best. There was something really organic about them figuring it all out together. It felt less produced and was more artistic and “far out”. The characters felt more authentic. The first season had true 70’s vibes.
Topher seems like a genuinely cool dude to hang with and seems like a real fan of the things he likes
i can't remember when i fell in love with that 70s show but it was such a big part of my life. My closest friend and I always watched it in high school and we compared ourselves to Hyde and Eric (I was Eric). It's one of my comfort shows and it makes me so upset that Netflix doesn't have it for streaming anymore.
also took me forever to realize what the circle was
Best show ever! I'm 39 and still watching the complete series on DVD!
This kinda hits me with that 90's show as well. Not a perfect first season, but as the episodes went on and everyone grew into their pants a bit it became pretty good. I'm all for a second season of that show.
It just felt a little weird, seemed like everyone was trying a bittttttt hard, still had the 70s feel didn’t have tooo much of 90s reference i was expecting, the season was toooo short, they should have made it with atleast like 20 episodes, i kind of feel like they rushed it, being that they started to film like a year ago,
@@JustGioooo Yes, I agree with all of that. It never felt like the nineties. At least not the nineties as I remember them.
I remember watching That '70s Show, and I still love it!
Such an amazing show. Kept my less lonely when I had no friends. Y’all were my friends for few hours. Same with other shows.
I was a tiny bit younger than the “teen” cast growing up. In my 40’s now, Topher is the only cast character whom I respected then … and now, outside of Kurt Smith and Debra Jo Rupp. So incredibly happy that Masterson’s victims got the justice they deserve. 🧑⚖️⚖️
Amen
Kurt and Deb wrote letters of support for Danny....😬
@@artiezonk they sure did, I met Kurtwood several times and he seems like a pretty nice guy, but obviously had no idea what he was getting into.

That 70's Show was and still is my jam, so rewatchable and still very funny.
I don't know how many times I've seen That 70's Show all the way through. I loved it so much. I actually got somewhat depressed when Eric and Donna broke up, yeah I know how sad. Eric was the best character, so funny. I still watch the scene when he destroys the wedding dress and absolutely lose it.
the thing is for me i love season 1 of that 70s show more than any other season of the other shows brought up i cans till go back and watch season 1 of that 70s show
Same - season 1 is the best.
it's like the singer of the 80's band Lover boy when he gets asked if he gets sick of their one hit song "working for the weekend". he still loves performing it, because it made his life what it is and made it far better. my point is, always appreciate your big break and everything that came because of it.
You can tell how proud & fond he is of "70s."
I FULLY relate to watching reruns of "70s" on UPN after elementary school.
That 70s show was brilliant. Grace seems pretty approachable and kind. And as somone who grew up in the 70s, boy did that show catch it.
Tbh im mindblowed by the fact that he knows abt the friends and that he compares to it i always seen it like that thats y those 2 shows will always be my favorite
He made me fall in love with skinny guys especially on that episode when he was dancing to Lou Rawls and Jackie walked in lol.
He didn’t talk about it at all
Title is misleading since he doesn't really talk about WHY he left other than BRIEFLY mentioning things he experienced after leaving but nothing in this segment addresses the title in depth as I was hoping. Pathetic.
Spider Man 3 and not getting along great with Ashton Kutcher at the time. There ya go. Maybe I should start an accurately titled podcast
@@IHateNicolasCage I guess so. A real shame when commenters can do what videos cannot. Thanks for addressing the question at hand.
I wished they asked about That 90s Show which is a sequel starring Eric & Donna's daughter, it's currently filming.
Such a funny interview , I was laughing along with Ria and Fran
One of my all time faves, literally just seeing this dude puts a smile on my face, congrats to yall on a great pod :D
“That 70s Show” played a huge role in my troubled 20s 🥰 as they say Laughter is the best medicine for depression
I loved this show. Ready for their return for that 90’s show!
The best sitcom especially high!Seen it over 200x no joke!🤣
I think what he’s pointing towards is character progression over time. So many shows (be it sitcoms or dramas) for me that I watched as a millennial fit that category where as time goes on, the characters really become real and grounded. Ive seen it in The OC, One Tree Hill, Parks & Rec, The Office, Friends, Dawson’s Creek, Big Bang Theory, Glee, How I Met Your Mother, Lost, 7th Heaven, Pretty Little Liars, etc.
West High class of 1979, marched in the band and played in the orchestra and yes, we sat in the circle too!

That 70s Show is one of my favorite shows. I was about 2 when it aired but I caught a lot of the reruns in the early 2000s and 2010s and when it was picked up on netflix i rewatched the show while I was 100%ing the spyro series so now when I think of that 70s show i distinctly remember having fun watching it and playing spyro. good times
This is still my favorite sitcom. I have the series on dvd. I watch it everyday on LAFF.
Topher doesn’t talk about leaving the show. They just reminisce about the show

Started watching when I was 14, just started smoking weed. This show had a lifelong impact on me and I'm so excited 90s show is coming soon!!
I also had no idea they were smoking as a kid 😆
nothing like just getting into weed and discovering that 70s show. blasted beyond what i could ever attain now, mommas cooking, and office chair and netflix queued with that 70s show.
Last episode of season 7 and whole 8 season just don't exist for me 😭💜 Jackie and Hyde are the endgame, Erik didn't leave, everything is cool
such a good dude! GREAT INTERVIEW!
I watched with my daughters, but the cultural references that were assumed knowledge meant a lot more to me than them and, I’m sure, the young ladies doing this podcast.
same thing happened to me, watchin it when i was around 10 years did not understand it completley and now on my 20s i watched the hole thing and fully understood it, loved it i hope they put it back on netlfix again
I remember taping every episode on VHS when they aired. Years later I bought the box set and almost all the music had changed. Like when Fes is imagining dancing with Caroline by the jukebox, they play some slow generic music. The original aired song was "Oh Caroline" by Cheap Trick. Kinda bummed me out. But I'm thankful for having the series on VHS and DVD
That’s interesting
