- There is an effort to help three members of a family severely injured on July 4th at an illegal fireworks show on Long Island. CBS New York's Carolyn Gusoff spoke with one of the victims, who is nine months pregnant and hospitalized with her husband and young daughter.

It’s all fun and games till something happens. Now it’s poor us and wants donations. They had years to report this illegal fireworks. Most likely enjoyed and cheered it on for years before this happened. Sorry, no sympathy. Just like man who had put fireworks on his head.

did you see that collection of empty containers... no sympathy. they knew it was illegal and delighted in their thumbing their noses at the city/state laws.

Plenty of backyard fireworks shows, you dont plan to attend and have limbs severed and ruptured ear drums, that ain't normal to have life changing injuries and the family would not have been able to anticipate the danger. The people that put on the show should be held responsible. People need to start being responsible again for their action in all aspects of life!

Terrible. Where is law enforcement for these fireworks? They know it’s being done and only becomes a big deal when ppl are hurt. Praying for the family.
They do nothing about it. It's called illegal but seems there's nothing done about it. I called about a neighbor that was shooting these off because flames came into my yard. The cop came out and told him to stop doing it. And if he does it next time he will take away his canister. What! No citation?

The “go funds me” are ridiculous… I got a hangnail, better set up a “go fund me page” I remember back in the day folks took care of themselves. Everyone wants something, and everyone wants to sue somebody. Damn I’m OLD!

@terryowen6759 I underestand. However, that does not make them any less responsible for the injuries they sustained. It was an annual event held in the neighborhood. A reasonable person could expect to be injured by illegal fireworks set off by someone not licensed to detonate explosives.
@@HugsXO it was an illegal fireworks "show", the fireworks were most likely bought at one of the hundreds of fireworks stands that pop up every 4th in parking lots. Those fireworks aren't sold illegally
@terryowen6759 Granted, the fireworks are purchased legally. However, the neighborhood fireworks show is illegal. Add in alcohol, poor judgment, and reckless behavior, and you get exactly what happened .

Clearly they knew they were attending an illegal fireworks show. Which means no safe guards and those lighting them off have been partying all day. They can sue the homeowner who provided the fireworks.
